"What do you mean Matthew and Maya are against the organisation? They're one of our best spies." My uncle asked skeptically. "I know this is hard to believe sir, it was hard for me to believe it to but he admitted it to me himself talking about how he and Maya work for another organisation; an enemy organisation which thinks you're responsible for a bunch of crimes, plans and schemes and are sending people to investigate, spy on and potentially hurt you and those people are Matthew and Maya." I replied with utmost certainty.
"Well Andrea do you have any proof or evidence to these accusations? Because if not, your report is completely meaningless and vain and that is not acceptable." He said staring at me sternly through his spectacles. "Yes. Yes, I do." I said and pulled out my voice recorder from my purse and dropped it on his table.
'Yeah, I bet you all thought that I didn't have any proof but I do, you know why? It's because I always...okay usually think ahead and as the great spy I am I'm always *cough* almost always prepared.' He picked up the recorder and began playing the recordings. It is the recording from when I confronted Matthew in the restaurant where he spilled his huge secret and even a recording from just now when we were talking outside the door. My uncle listened intently as the recordings played as if he was still skeptical about their originality. The recordings finally ended after a few minutes and my uncle slid the recorder back to me.
"Andrea... why did you bring me this?" He asked breaking the akward silence and leaving me very much confused. "I don't understand sir.". "Don't play stupid with me Andrea. Anyone whose a someone who knows you in the organisation, has a keen sense and an emotional eye would be able to tell that you have a deep liking to Matthew... well anyone except Matthew. So why did you bring me the one thing that can get him in trouble, the one thing that will prevent you ever from seeing him?" He stated, staring at me hands now intertwined and holding his head. My mouth made an 'Oh' as I understood what he meant.
"Well because you're family and family always comes first nk matter what." I replied. He just stared at me as thinking about what I said and I can swear I saw a flicker of guilt in his eyes but then he just nodded and spoke, "Good to know that you have the interest of your family and this organisation at heart. To be honest I had a feeling that there were spies in the organisation but I've been to busy to look into it, you just saved me a lot of effort and for that I am really grateful. Thank you, you may go now, Matthew and Maya will be punished respectively. ".
I nodded, took my recorder and turned around to leave but then my uncle stopped me. "Oh! I almost forgot to mention, Andrea!" He called out. "Yes!" I answered and turned back to look at him. Staring at me square in the face with nothing but utmost seriousness, he spoke, "Make sure to wipe that recorder clean an under no circumstance do you tell anyone about this. Do I make myself clear?". "Yes sir. " I replied, turned around and left the room. That was weird right?
But believe I or not, I actually feel really great after spilling this big of a secret and it feels good to feel appreciated by my uncle who hardly ever says thank you. Thinking about how relieved I was, made me think about what he said "Matthew and Maya will be punished respectively .". Although the way he said it made it seem like he is a principal planning to give his most notorious and rebellious students detention, I knew that it could never be the case. My heart sank and my stomach churned at the thought of all the horribly terrible things my heck of a powerful uncle could and probably would do to them. And suddenly I didn't feel so great or relieved anymore. What if I had just made one of the biggest mistakes of my life.
