Nia arched a brow, surprised. Most men she'd dated usually insisted on picking the menu or, worse, ordered for her without asking what she liked. But Robert seemed genuinely interested in what she wanted. It was... unexpectedly nice.
She quickly ordered a selection of her favourites, including a bottle of wine, and Robert nodded approvingly as she listed off the dishes.
"Excellent choices," he said. "I see Jess didn't exaggerate about your good taste."
Nia flushed slightly but smiled.
The meal arrived promptly, and the evening unfolded with a series of effortless conversations. They spoke about everything—from his pro bono work and courtroom dramas to her roller-coaster ride in the tech and gaming industry. And, of course, a few playful digs at Jess's expense.
"Yeah, she's a terror, but she's also my best friend," Nia admitted, taking a sip of her wine. "Sometimes I think she knows me better than I know myself."
