Chapter 7 - Chapter 7:A Dance of Alliances in the City of Skyscrapers

A Meeting of Titans in Hong Kong

From the towering heights of skyscrapers, the view of Victoria Harbour bathed in sunlight was a testament to the city's vitality. Inside a grand, opulent office filled with rare plants and drenched in sunlight streaming through floor-to-ceiling windows, Dai Tian, the Chairman of Hong Long Group, was entertaining a guest. At nearly seventy, with silver hair and a demeanor marked by elegance and experience, his face bore the traces of time, revealing no hint of his emotions.

"Brother Wang, how have you been?" Dai Tian greeted his guest warmly. The visitor, Wang Fang, was the president of a prominent Chinese-funded institution in Hong Kong, a slender man in his fifties wearing elegant glasses.

"Thanks to Chairman Dai, I've been managing well," Wang Fang replied, gesturing to a young lady standing beside him. "You may sit too. Chairman Dai is a great mentor and friend to us, no need for formality."

Dai Tian's attention shifted to the lady, and with a genuine admiration, he said, "Brother Wang, your young companion reminds me of the Mona Lisa, making me feel even older. Please, have a seat."

The young lady, dressed in a dark business suit and carrying a CD handbag, smiled modestly. "Chairman Dai, you flatter me. According to Mr. Wang, you have been a great supporter. I look forward to your guidance."

Dai Tian's snowy eyebrows twitched slightly. "Brother Wang, you are too kind." He offered tea, continuing, "Hong Kong has been back for three years. People's hearts are stable, and businesses are flourishing. With your company's strong background and financial power, the future is boundless."

Wang Fang stood and paced around the room. "Chairman Dai, your office is filled with rare plants, blooming all year round. Such vitality must be favored by heaven. May fortune smile upon us!"

Dai Tian's eyes followed Wang Fang, pondering the deeper meaning of his words.

Wang Fang sat down again. "To be brief, I'm here today to ask for a favor."

Dai Tian was momentarily taken aback. "Please, go ahead."

Wang Fang looked directly at him. "Haizhou Pharmaceutical Group is seeking funding from your company."

"Yes, indeed. Chairman Guo Xiaopeng has visited Hong Kong several times to seek financial cooperation. After several meetings and an assessment of Haizhou Pharmaceutical's credit and Guo's capabilities, we reached a cooperation agreement, approved the feasibility report, and signed the contract," Dai Tian replied honestly.

Wang Fang inquired further, "If it's not a commercial secret, could you reveal the scale of the investment?"

"The initial investment is thirty million Hong Kong dollars, spread over four phases, totaling about one hundred fifty million Hong Kong dollars," Dai Tian explained, leaning back on the sofa. "If there's an issue with Haizhou Pharmaceutical, I can retract the decision."

Wang Fang waved his hand. "No issue. I just wanted to know if your company sends someone to oversee such a large investment."

Dai Tian, now understanding Wang Fang's intent, adjusted his thoughts quickly. "Of course, we do." He glanced at the young lady sitting quietly. "Does Brother Wang have a suitable candidate in mind?"

Wang Fang smiled. "You know me well, Chairman Dai. I was thinking of recommending Miss Wang Jingfei."

Dai Tian smiled back. "If I'm not mistaken, it's the young lady who just praised this old man?"

Wang Jingfei handed her resume to Dai Tian without a word. He skimmed through it and commented, "Miss Wang's qualifications and beauty are equally impressive."

Wang Jingfei responded gracefully, "Chairman Dai, you are too kind."

Wang Fang stood to leave. "I won't take up any more of your valuable time. If it's convenient, I'd like Miss Wang to stay at your company to get familiar with the situation. We hope she can assume her role soon."

Dai Tian rose to see his guests out. "Rest assured, Brother Wang, we will entrust Miss Wang with important responsibilities."

As the three walked out, Wang Fang turned at the elevator to express his gratitude. "Thank you very much, Chairman Dai, for your support."

Dai Tian shook his hand with a smile. "It's a small matter. During the financial crises of 1983 and 1998, Hong Long Group wouldn't have survived without your help."
