Chapter 14 - The Aftermath.

The morning sun cast long shadows across the ruins of the warehouse. The once formidable structure now lay in tatters, debris scattered everywhere from the intense gunfight and the explosion that had rocked the place the night before. The air was thick with the acrid smell of burnt materials, and the eerie silence was broken only by the occasional creak of settling rubble.

Three women, dressed in sleek, black combat attire, stepped carefully through the wreckage, their eyes scanning every corner for clues. Their movements were methodical and precise, reflecting their training and experience.

"Looks like Black Rose did her job," said the first woman, her voice tinged with curiosity. She had short, jet-black hair and piercing green eyes that seemed to miss nothing. "But she was supposed to kill him, not kidnap him and she is supposed to have done the mission about a week ago, why did she have to wait till yesterday to carry out the mission. I wonder what's going on."

"Red Rose, no matter what happened here, we need to find her soon and when we do we will have all the answers to this puzzling situation," replied the second woman, her tone urgent. She was taller, with long, auburn hair tied back in a tight ponytail, and her eyes held a steely determination. "She hasn't reported in for close to two weeks. We don't want the bosses to think she has gone rogue. So we have to find her soon."

Red Rose nodded, her expression serious. "Understood, I told you not to send only her out on this mission anyway but you all don't listen to me. So What's the plan?"

The third woman, with short, platinum-blonde hair and cool blue eyes, stepped forward. "How was I supposed to know this would happen, she ask for the job and she was qualified for it so I assigned it to her. Red Rose, your job is to find Franco Moretti's guards, at least what's left of them. We need to understand what happened here from their perspective. Blue Rose, check out the Chinese gang's side. Who knows, they may be involved. I'll handle the police stations and hospitals for any leads."

"Got it," Red Rose said, her mind already working on how to track down the surviving guards. "I'll start with the nearest safe houses they might have fled to."

Blue Rose nodded, her face set in a determined expression. "I'll head to the Chinese gang's territory. They might know something, or at the very least, they might have heard rumors."

As the three women split up to carry out their tasks, the warehouse stood as a silent witness to the chaos that had unfolded. The mission had clearly gone awry, and now it was up to these operatives to untangle the mess and find Black Rose before it was too late.

...

John woke up to the gentle rays of the morning sun streaming through the curtains. He felt the warmth of Emma's body still nestled against him, her soft breathing a soothing rhythm. She looked so peaceful, a stark contrast to the chaos they had been living through. For a moment, he allowed himself to get lost in the serenity of the scene, marveling at how beautiful she looked even in sleep.

The tranquility was abruptly interrupted by the buzzing of his phone on the nightstand. He carefully extricated himself from Emma's embrace, making sure not to disturb her. She murmured softly but didn't wake up. John grabbed the phone and stepped out of the bedroom, closing the door behind him.

"Good morning, sir," his assistant's voice greeted him on the other end. "I'm sorry to bother you so early, but we have a situation."

John's brow furrowed. "What is it?"

"The stakeholders are calling an emergency meeting behind your back," the assistant said urgently. "There's talk of removing you as CEO, I heard it was your uncle stirring up stuff in the background, apparently he wants to be the new CEO so he's been meeting the stakeholders for personal meetings and going out to dinner and hosting private parties for the stakeholders to get them on his side, some people are already dancing to his tune, You need to come to the office immediately to address this and put him in his place before it's too late."

John's grip tightened on the phone. The attack on their estate, the constant threat from the mafia, and now this? He took a deep breath, trying to steady his thoughts. "Alright, I'll be there as soon as possible. Have the car ready."

"Yes, sir. I'll make the arrangements," the assistant replied.

John ended the call and leaned against the wall, rubbing his temples. The stakes were higher than ever, and he couldn't afford to lose control of the company now. He took a moment to compose himself before returning to the bedroom.

Emma was still sleeping soundly, her face relaxed and serene. John gently brushed a strand of hair from her face and kissed her forehead. He knew he had to leave her, but the sight of her gave him a renewed sense of purpose. They were in this together, and he would protect her no matter what.

He quickly dressed and headed downstairs. The house was still under high security, with guards patrolling the perimeter. John's car was already waiting, and he nodded to the driver as he got in.

The drive to the office was a blur of thoughts and strategies. John knew he had to play this carefully. The stakeholders were powerful, but he had built this company from the ground up. He wasn't going to let them take it away from him.

As they pulled up to the office building, John squared his shoulders and prepared for the battle ahead. He had faced danger and intrigue, and now it was time to face a different kind of enemy. But he was ready. For Emma, for their future, and for everything they had fought for, he would not back down.
