First mile stone.

Maya winced as she slid into the vehicle, the ache in her feet a constant reminder of the hours she'd spent dancing, her grip tightening around the trophy. She had won the best dancer at the party, all thanks to Sebastian's intervention.

Sebastian followed her into the taxi, a heavy tension hanging between them. The atmosphere was silent, punctuated by the purring of the taxi's engine and the occasional blaring of horn.

Maya stole glances at him, a glint of irritation in his eyes. How could she let herself feel... anything for him? The idea disgusted her. Sebastian was beneath her in every conceivable way, and yet—her body betrayed her in ways she couldn't explain.

He was just a poor, worthless body guard. She tried to remind herself. But the words felt empty. It felt like a lie to her.

She clenched her jaw, willing the thoughts away as the taxi pulled up in front of the hotel.
