Chapter 10 - debriefing.

The next morning, sunlight streamed through the large windows of the Shadowguard headquarters, casting a soft glow over Elena's office. She sat at her desk, meticulously reviewing her report on the Wraith mission in Canada. Her fingers moved deftly over the keyboard, detailing the mission's objectives, challenges, and outcomes. She paused occasionally to sip her coffee, her mind replaying the events of the mission.

Today's debriefing was critical. A Continental, one of the upper echelon leaders of the North American branch, would be evaluating not only the mission but also Ryan's performance to determine if he qualified to become an official agent of the Shadowguard. Elena knew the significance of this evaluation and wanted to ensure every detail was accurate and presented in the best possible light.

A knock on her door broke her concentration. A Shadowguard operative stepped in, his expression formal. "Agent Elena, the Continental is ready for your debriefing."

Elena nodded, stood up, and followed the operative to the debriefing room. The room was imposing, with a large table at its center and various high-tech screens lining the walls. Seated at the head of the table was Continental Marcus kane, a stern-looking man with piercing blue eyes and a commanding presence.

"Good morning, Agent Elena," he greeted, motioning for her to take a seat.

"Good morning, Continental Marcus kane," Elena replied, sitting down and placing her report in front of her.

Continental Marcus kane leaned forward, his gaze unwavering. "Let's begin. I've read your preliminary report on the Wraith mission in Canada. Impressive work. Now, I want to hear more about your recruit, Ryan. His performance on the field will determine if he qualifies to become an official agent."

Elena took a deep breath and began. "Ryan displayed remarkable courage and quick thinking throughout the mission. Despite his initial nerves, he adapted quickly to the situation and followed orders precisely. His marksmanship was accurate, and he played a crucial role in neutralizing the Wraiths."

Continental Marcus kane raised an eyebrow, clearly interested. "Can you provide specific examples of his contributions?"

"Of course," Elena said. "During the initial encounter with the Wraiths, Ryan helped drive them off, allowing us to regroup and strategize. He also identified key patterns in their movements, which were instrumental in our successful ambush. Furthermore, his coordination with the backup agents was seamless, showcasing his ability to work well within a team."

Continental Marcus kane nodded thoughtfully. "And his conduct outside of combat? His behavior and interactions with other agents?"

Elena smiled slightly. "Ryan has a positive attitude and a strong sense of duty. He's respectful and eager to learn. His background, though challenging, has instilled in him a resilience and determination that I believe will make him an asset to the Shadowguard."

Continental Marcus kane leaned back in his chair, considering her words. After a moment, he spoke. "Based on your report and your testimony, I am impressed with Ryan's performance and potential. I hereby declare Ryan an official agent of the Shadowguard, pending the ceremonial induction."

Elena felt a wave of relief and pride. "Thank you, Continental Marcus kane. Ryan will be honored to hear this."

The debriefing concluded, and as Elena left the room, she couldn't help but smile. Ryan had earned his place among them, and she was proud of his progress.

As she walked back to her office, her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and saw it was her friend, Lydia, who also worked for the Shadowguard. Answering the call, she immediately heard Lydia's distressed voice.

"Elena, he broke up with me," Lydia sobbed. "I don't know what to do. I thought he loved me..."

Elena's heart sank. "Lydia, I'm so sorry. Where are you?"

"In my office," Lydia replied, her voice trembling.

"I'm coming to you right now," Elena said firmly. "Stay there, okay?"

Hurrying through the corridors of the headquarters, Elena made her way to Lydia's office. She found her friend sitting at her desk, tears streaming down her face. Without a word, Elena went over and hugged her tightly.

"It's going to be okay, Lydia. I'm here," Elena whispered, comforting her friend as best as she could.

Lydia clung to her, sobbing into her shoulder. "I just don't understand, Elena. We were so happy. What did I do wrong?"

Elena pulled back slightly, looking Lydia in the eyes. "You didn't do anything wrong. Sometimes people make decisions that have nothing to do with us. It's not your fault."

Lydia sniffled, wiping her tears. "But it hurts so much. I thought he was the one, I love love elena but it just so hard to find true love this days, I did everything to make him happy ."

"I know," Elena said softly. "Heartbreak is never easy. But you're strong, and you'll get through this. And I'll be here with you every step of the way."

Lydia managed a weak smile. "Thank you, Elena. I don't know what I'd do without you."

Elena squeezed her hand. "You don't have to find out. Now, how about we take a break? We can get some coffee, or go for a walk. Whatever you need."

Lydia nodded, her tears subsiding. "Coffee sounds good. And maybe some fresh air."

Elena helped her friend up, and they left the office together, heading towards the cafeteria. As they walked, Elena felt a sense of purpose. Whether it was fighting supernatural threats or supporting a friend through a difficult time, she was determined to be there for those who needed her.
