Adeline swallowed the lump in her throat as she looked at his figure towering in front of her. Her face was filled with horror as she struggled with the right words to say, she blinked her eyes trying to wake her self from this day dream but she was forced to accept that it was reality.
"Uh Mr....Mr...Mr Wayne" Adeline couldn't help his name from coming out of her lips as she looked at him. She now remembered how she yelled a few seconds ago asking him to go away.
"I....I ....I...yelled at you earlier....I d...I didn't know that....I didn't....I thought...." Adeline struggled for words with her eyes still fixed on him.
"You are stuttering" He finally spoke, his voice still cold as he looked down at her.
Adeline opened her mouth as she struggled to say something but nothing came out, she finally shut her lips and instead she took a deep breath as if that would help her problem right now.
"I'm sorry" She managed to speak.
Dylan just stood there, he was speechless, she had managed to render him speechless again. The same thing happened last night, when she had had apologized and told him that she was going to be okay with whatever decision he makes , that moment he didn't know what to say. Now he was dumbstruck again, but this time Dylan managed to speak.
"Are you aware that you are suppose to report to my office by 8am?" Dylan asked, his stance was firm as he looked at her. His eyes curiously studied her from her dress down. He could see she was barefooted.
"I was just about to.....well I wanted to...um..." Adeline bit her lips hard as she couldn't stop herself from stuttering, she felt stupid under his penetrating gaze. The more she tried to speak the more stupid she made herself seem.
Dylan looked at her with awe, who would have thought this secretary of his could stutter.
"You are not going to invite me in?" Dylan asked but it didn't come out like a question.
"No" Adeline quickly shook her head in response. Her apartment was a mess, not to talk of the fact that it wasn't luxurious enough to have someone like him come in.
He arced his brows with a look of displeasure on his face, he couldn't believe that she dared deny his request to come inside her apartment. He could push her out of the way to see for himself, he was curious to know what it was that kept her busy inside. His first guess was that she was hiding a man inside but when she came out to open the door, her dress looked neatly arranged and he could tell she just took a shower, the scent of her shower gel was tempting him. 'Lavender' he thought to himself.
Sensing the change in his expression, Adeline tried to find the right words to explain herself but she couldn't. If he planned to push her aside and walk in then he would succeed, her hands were occupied and so she wouldn't be able to even struggle.
"Move Aside" Dylan ordered. After the words left his lips he wanted to curse himself for saying it. He was suppose to be in his office working, he had a meeting in less than an hour. But for some goddamn reason he was so interested in seeing what was inside of her tiny apartment.
Adeline opened her mouth to retort but then she forced her lips close, she couldn't argue with him. He was her boss, any small mistake from her part would get her fired, he could do that if he wanted to and so she had to behave.
Adeline moved aside and let him walk in, she knew better than to drag matters with Dylan Wayne. Adeline dropped her back on the small kitchen Island and then she quickly put on her heels while he was busy staring at everything else.
She wondered why he was interested in coming inside, her house wasn't all that fancy and she couldn't say it was the plain paintings or her small furniture that had drawn his attention. Perhaps he just wanted to come inside so no one would see him standing outside a poor looking house. Staring at him now, Adeline realized how out of place he looked, his whole figure, his well tailored suit and then his godly features, they looked to good to be in a small apartment like this.
"Small"
Adeline heard his voice, she couldn't tell if it was a compliment. His voice was plain when he said the word and she couldn't say he meant any harm with that word but somehow Adeline was a bit affected.
"Mr Wayne, why did you come to my apartment?" Adeline asked. All this while she had forgotten the obvious question. 'why the hell did her boss show up on her doorstep' All this while she had been trying to pull herself together but now she was ready to talk to him.
"I'm glad to see that you are no longer stuttering" Dylan commented as his eyes swept her off her feet. He could see that she was now putting on her heels, he guessed that it was the shoes that gave her a little courage to speak well.
"I was quite shaken with your arrival" Adeline explained trying to hide the embarrassment that had cause her face to flush. She had to remind herself that she was talking to her boss, Dylan Wayne, and not just any man, he was in the list of the top five richest billionaires in the world. She had to keep her stance straight and stop herself from embarrassment.
"You should" Dylan said and then that grin appeared on his lips.
Adeline thought her heart was about to burst from her chest when she saw the dimple that appeared on the side of his cheek. She had heard rumors about his smile but she had never really seen him smile before, at least not this close. The small dimple that appeared on the side of his cheek made him look even more handsome. Adeline could feel herself getting weak in the knees as images from her dreams flashed in her mind, she knew it was him and that only made her position right now even more difficult.
