The lead robber, clad in the thick black armor that made him look more like a tank than a person, stepped forward with a smug grin. His men followed suit, each one similarly outfitted in gear that seemed impenetrable. The squad leader, who had been trying to maintain some semblance of authority, was left speechless, his loudspeaker dropping slightly as he took in the sight.
"This... this wasn't in the manual..." he muttered, his confidence faltering.
From their vantage point, Merlin and Frank couldn't help but be taken aback as well. "Well, they definitely didn't come to play," Frank remarked, his eyes narrowing as he assessed the situation.
"Wow! They really went all out," Merlin added, genuinely impressed by the robbers' preparedness.
The leading strong man wore a metal rhinoceros hood and wielded a Vulcan machine gun, the cold barrel slowly rotating with an ominous hum. His outfit was a rhinoceros heavy armor suit, a far more expensive and stylish version of regular heavy armor, and an out-of-print set in the game.
"Oh, shit..." Seeing the Vulcan Gatling come out, the police officers panicked, swearing under their breath as they tried to fire a few shots before scrambling for cover.
"Da da da da da..." The barrel of the Vulcan machine gun spun rapidly, spitting out high-temperature blue flames as countless bullets poured out in a dense stream. The police cars, as sturdy as they were, might as well have been made of paper. In the blink of an eye, they were riddled with bullet holes, completely wrecked.
"Boom! Boom! Boom..." The relentless firepower turned the police cars into blazing fireballs, one after another exploding violently.
Even from a distance, Merlin and Frank could feel the ground vibrating and the intense heat radiating towards them.
"Sniper! Take cover!" the leader yelled, quickly pulling out his walkie-talkie and shouting orders. Just as he finished speaking, a gunshot echoed.
"Bang!" The brawny robber wielding the Vulcan machine gun staggered as a blood hole appeared in his shoulder. Armor-piercing bullets had pierced his heavy armor.
The robbers' faces turned pale with alarm. "There's a sniper! Take cover!" they shouted, scrambling for safety. But before they could retreat, an orange armored vehicle suddenly plowed through the police barricade. Like a giant steel beast, it crashed into the scene, blocking the sniper's line of sight.
"Rebels," Merlin muttered from a distance, surprised by the robbers' resources. This was no ordinary heist team.
The robbers swiftly tossed the bags of money into the armored vehicle, discarding their heavy weapons on the ground as they clambered inside, their bulky armor suits slowing them down but offering some protection.
"Buzz buzz..."
"It's like a dream," Frank sighed, watching the armored vehicles speed away, with police helicopters in hot pursuit. "Hell's Kitchen used to be the heart of crime, but now it's practically peaceful compared to the chaos outside."
As he spoke, a vigilante vehicle, lights flashing, raced past them, stirring up a strong gust of wind as it pursued the armored vehicle.
"Whoosh, whoosh..." Suddenly, a burst of electromagnetic waves pulsed through the air, and the armored vehicle that had been tearing down the road immediately powered off and came to a halt. Within moments, a convoy of police vehicles, led by the vigilantes, surrounded the now-immobilized armored vehicle.
"It's getting quite lively out here..." Merlin's eyes gleamed with excitement at the unfolding scene. "Tomorrow should be even more interesting."
"Ahahaha, Spider-Woman, you can't catch me!" A taunting voice echoed above them. They both looked up to see Spider-Woman Gwen in hot pursuit of a man soaring through the sky with a jetpack strapped to his back.
Spider-Man shot webbing through the city, but catching up to someone with a jetpack proved difficult. Just when the criminal thought he had the upper hand, Gwen, in a swift motion, didn't eject webbing but instead pulled out an atomic energy gun, almost like magic.
The criminal's expression froze. "Whoops!" Gwen fired, sending a powerful wave that knocked the criminal out of the sky.
Frank observed the scene quietly. "It's really lively..." he muttered.
Merlin snapped a picture of Gwen with the gun and nodded in satisfaction before hopping onto his motorcycle. "Let's go."
Despite it being night, New York City was as chaotic as a New Year's Eve celebration. The streets, buildings, and skies were filled with players and chaos. But in the shadows, there was a semblance of order as people hustled to make money to buy their dream weapons or vehicles, only to join the frenzy themselves.
Even otakus had emerged from their homes, buying weapons and attempting to play the hero, adding to the overwhelming sense of disorder. The city could be summed up in one word—chaos.
"Bah!" A series of lights lit up, illuminating the vast hangar. The three planes lay like beasts in slumber: the Raiju, Hydra, and Frank's Crazy Flame.
"Oh my God, you created this big guy," Frank said in amazement, his eyes shining as he approached Tiansha.
"Your Crazy Flame isn't bad either. I've added some good stuff to it," Tiansha replied.
"Same as Iron Man," Merlin said, walking up to Crazy Flame. He opened the cabin on its abdomen, revealing a cold fusion energy core glowing white inside. He winked at Frank.
"Tony Stark actually handed over his technology to you?" Frank asked, looking up at the core emitting a milky white light, clearly surprised. "Or did he help make it?"
"It's not difficult to make it yourself," Merlin said casually. "After installing the nuclear fusion core, I also reinforced the outer shell of this fighter jet. The speed can reach up to Mach 10. As a counter-weapon, I chose jamming foil, and it's also equipped with tracking missiles. The cold fusion core solved the Crazy Flame's slow start issue…"
Merlin detailed the jets' specifications, then moved to the cockpit. "I'll go test it first and be right back!"
Frank took a few steps back and nodded. He watched as the Crazy Flame drove to the vast square outside. The fighter jet's engine started, and the nozzle rotated downward, spraying out white energy. Under the immense thrust, the jet instantly rose from the ground, straight into the night.
"Whoosh!" The Crazy Flame paused mid-air for a moment, then suddenly shot forward. In the blink of an eye, a streak of white light streaked across the night sky and disappeared into the horizon.
Merlin was flying a fighter plane over NY City. However, just as he accelerated to Mach 1, two white lights suddenly appeared in front of him.
As he got closer and closer, Merlin finally saw the true identity of the two white lights.
