Under Alfie's commanding glare, all of the Vosses lowered their heads and chorused, "Yes, Old Sir!"
"One more thing." Alfie gazed at the white mourning fabric that hadn't yet been removed with a grief-stricken expression.
"Gudrich and Alaric were just buried, so don't change the arrangements in the house too soon. Also, no family can entertain or socialize for the next week. Otherwise, you will be disowned!" Alfie said austerely, making their hearts sink.
After losing his closest relatives, it was understandable that Alfie would not want to watch them laughing and having a great time. However, if they had to suspend all entertainment operations, their amusement establishments would have to close for a week, resulting in a significant loss!
Furthermore, the Vosses had already experienced a massive defeat so that this one would be even more devastating.
Everyone wanted to express their opinions. But seeing Alfie's reaction, they could only remain silent.
After the family members had left, Alfie summoned Lucius to his study.
Standing in front of Alfie, hands by his side, and looking down, he resembled a filial son.
Alfie stared at Lucius as if trying to read something from his expression.
No matter how thick-skinned he was, Lucius couldn't remain calm because he felt guilty. His father's stare makes him uncomfortable and reading every bit of his action and expression.
"Dad, why did you ask to see me?" Lucius inquired, his attention drawn to Alfie's gloomy expression.
Alfie looked away and nodded as if he had been awakened from his daze. "Do you know why I said that in the hall just now?"
He mentioned his orders not to discuss the deaths of Alaric and Gudrich Voss.
Lucius was perplexed about it. He is also wary of his father's instruction just minutes ago in the family hall!
His men had killed Gudrich and Alaric, and he intended to make a big deal out of it and then accuse Ethan Knight to avoid suspicion. Nobody would realize he'd killed his younger brother and nephew.
In truth, Gudrich's widow, a middle-aged woman, had learned of her husband and son's killings from someone Lucius sent.
He assumed that Alfie would agree to the request because he was distraught about the death of his son and grandson. He expected more reactions from his father
However, he never expected Alfie to choose not to face Ethan and instead instructed all family members not to bring the matter up again. That is not according to his plan.
Lucius bowed, hiding his feelings in his eyes, and murmured respectfully, "I'm not sure. But Dad, you've always been wise, so I believe there is a reason for your decision."
Alfie sighed. "Gudrich and Alaric are my biological son and grandchildren, so naturally, I want to avenge them. However, we cannot openly claim that Ethan Knight killed them. First, we don't have clear evidence, and second, we risk alarming him and causing him to escape. By then, it would be difficult to seek vengeance."
Lucius nodded in a flash of realization and shouted, "Dad, you are so wise! It is not time for us to make this announcement just yet. We should get rid of Ethan Knight while his guard is down!"
"Yes! The murderer is Ethan Knight, which we can establish. Even if he wasn't the culprit, he was the one who beat up Gudrich and Alaric. We have the right to look for him!" Alfie gritted his teeth.
Alfie immediately stretched out and patted Lucius on the shoulder. "Lucius, you are my only son now. I will delegate the duty of eliminating Ethan Knight and avenging Alaric and Gudrich to you! After you finish it, I will hold a meeting and hand over the post of Voss family successor to you in public!"
Alfie's eyes were filled with an inexplicable menace. His plan is working.
Ethan Knight was not to be trifled with, and since his real son had died, there was no need for the bastard child Lucius Voss to live either! Furthermore, the murderer might be either Ethan or the ungrateful Lucius!
If the two of them were at odds, they could kill each other! It would be fine if either of them perished!
Only then could he get revenge on Gudrich and Alaric.
When Alfie thought about that scene, his palms trembled.
Suddenly, he heard a tremendous noise.
Lucius broke up laughing!
Laughter?
Lucius was like an obedient puppy in front of him, but he suddenly smiled when he learned that Alfie was going to hand over the position of heir to him.
Alfie was stunned, and he quickly became enraged.
He had explicitly stated that no one should laugh or speak while mourning Alaric and Gudrich. Yet Lucius was laughing!
"What are you laughing about?!" Alfie became enraged and scowled at Lucius.
"Haha, Dad." You mean that if I don't get revenge on Ethan Knight, you won't offer me the successor post, correct?" Lucius inquired, smiling.
Alfie frowned as he noticed his unusual behavior. "Certainly not. You are my only son. Who else would I give it to besides you?
"Haha! Who knows? I am not your biological son. How could you hand over the family to me? I am scared you are planning to kill me, right?"
Lucius was still smiling, but Alfie described him as a terrible fiend! This Lucius in front of him is different from what he knows in character.
"What nonsense are you babbling about?" Alfie yelled, filled with astonishment and horror. When did this jerk find out? Does he read minds?
Or has he been pretending all along? Has he been so good at pretending that I thought he was an obedient dog, and is he finally showing his true colors?
Alfie's heart was suddenly filled with terror and anxiety.
"Hah, you should know whether or not I'm babbling nonsense." After revealing his true colors, Lucius saw no reason to feign and moved calmly toward the couch to sit down.
"You want me to deal with Ethan Knight and risk injuring myself. How will I allow that. "Isn't it best if we both die?"
