One and a half months have passed since I found myself on this island. My Devil Fruit had already matured, but I was excitedly waiting for its weakness to water to be removed.
Day by day, it was getting more crucial to leave this island and find some kind of civilization. Since this was a tropical island, the weather understandably went to shit very irregularly and very fast.
And to top it all off, although I was expecting it, I caught a fish that was quite certainly not mundane. The coconuts and bananas were the same as in my previous life. Most of the fish I caught were looking normal enough that I didn't question it.
But the... fish? Or whatever it is I just caught? It had the face of a literal dragon or as close to it as it could get. Admittedly, it looked more reptilian than draconic, but still. I was baffled at first, but then I took a look back at my Devil Fruit, which is currently in the process of maturing, and pretty quickly got over my bafflement.
Thinking about how to even eat this was entertaining, but there was a more prudent question.
Where am I?
Not that I can answer that question, but there isn't much to do here but ponder. If this is a world I know of, then I might be able to utilize outsider knowledge to get some advantages. If not? Meh, I got Devil Fruits and Haki. I can thrive pretty much anywhere.
Removing the head of the... dragonfish? Yeah, dragonfish. I started cleaning up the body and skewered it with a stick and put it on the fire to let it cook.
Unlike my previous life, my mind was like a computer compared to before. The speed with which I process and comprehend things was so much faster that this survival thing got so much easier each day. Even something I never even knew how to do like cleaning fish was something I learned fairly easily.
Since my comprehension was improved and my memory had become eidetic, I decided to go to a wooden container I made and filled it with sand to give it elevation and started hitting the sand over and over again to train while my food cooked.
When the sand is so compact and condensed in a box, it becomes really painful to hit it with your bare hands. Being able to just power through the pain with my will alone allowed me to make good progress with armament haki.
Punch punch punch punch punch. Well, it gets a bit stale, but at least I'm immune to boredom.
An interesting tidbit I learned while practicing was when characters used armament haki in One Piece the black metallic color on their arms, legs or weapons was only for show. Nobody actually turned to metal it was just a way to show us, the viewers, to see that it was used.
That doesn't seem to be the case for me, though, because I could clearly see my hands turning metallic. Though to be fair, it could be that only I see it and nobody else can. There is no way to confirm for some time.
My arms have been burning for some time now, so I took a break and checked my food. Seeing that it was sufficiently cooked, I began eating.
Hmm... tastes like chicken.
Why does everything taste like chicken?
Whatever, at least it's edible.
Looking over to my shelter, which was made from thick branches put together with plant fiber and wide leaves, I spotted the hatchet I found on the ship along with the harpoon. That was a good find.
Once I got some feeling in my arms again I picked it up and started chopping trees for when the Devil Fruit ripens. As the ship will require materials to fix itself.
"TIMBER"
When the tree finally fell I heaved it up and carried it next to all the others I chopped down.
Just as I went back to my sandbox to practice more that damn turtle came back and just looked at the barrier around my Devil Fruit.
Seeing the damn thing was back I realised something. I was still a bit hungry from all that practice.
Looks like the turtle sensed my intentions because it had this look on its face like it realised something was up and tried running away.
"Well, let's see if turtle meat tastes like chicken too."
