Alexander took a deep breath, his gaze fixed on the water as he seemed to gather his thoughts. "I almost lost you today, Rain," he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. "I kept thinking… what if I hadn't reached you in time? I've never felt fear like that."
Rain's heart tightened as she heard the vulnerability in his words. She hadn't seen him this shaken before. "But you did reach me," she reassured him, placing a hand over his. "I'm here because of you."
He held her tighter, his eyes finally meeting hers, searching. "I don't want to ever feel that again," he murmured, his voice low. "You're everything to me now, Rain."
