Chapter 40 - Chapter 40 - Questions.

Savannah's POV

It's finally the end. The night air was thick with the scent of damp earth and pine needles. Each breath I took felt heavier, laden with the dread of what was hunting me. The soft moonlight barely pierced the dense canopy above, casting eerie shadows that seemed to shift and writhe with every hurried step I took.

I could hear it-rustling, crashing through the underbrush, always just behind me. It was a sound I couldn't quite place, primal and urgent, as if the forest itself was alive and intent on consuming me. My heart pounded so violently I could hardly hear my own ragged breaths over its thunderous rhythm.

In the distance, I spotted a faint glimmer of light. I pushed myself forward, fueled by a mix of desperation and determination. The man's pursuit was relentless, but so was my will to survive. As I neared the source of the light, I dared to hope. With one last burst of energy, I burst thud! into the flat surface. My breath came in ragged gasps as I lost sense of everthing, giving up my survival chances because there's no more hope left now. I die tonight.

Baldwin's Mansion

The first thing I registered was the sensation of soft, unfamiliar warmth pressing against my skin. It was so gentle and soothing that it felt almost foreign. My eyelids fluttered open, but the blurriness of my vision made everything appear like a watercolor painting-soft, indistinct, and shifting.

I tried to move, but my limbs felt like they were made of lead. My mind, though, was racing, trying to piece together how I had ended up here. The room-or was it a room?-was unlike anything I recognized. The walls were a strange, serene blue, adorned with delicate patterns I couldn't quite make out. The bed I lay on was plush and inviting, a stark contrast to the hard surfaces I remembered.Groggy, I turned my head slightly, my vision clearing just enough to notice the sunlight streaming through sheer curtains, casting an ethereal glow around the room. I could hear the distant sound of chirping birds and the rustle of leaves. It felt peaceful, almost dreamlike, yet a gnawing sense of disorientation gnawed at me.

I tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness washed over me, forcing me to lie back down. Panic fluttered in my chest, like a trapped bird desperate to escape. My throat was dry, and my mouth felt like it had been coated in sand. I needed to find out where I was, what had happened.

The door to the room creaked open, and a figure appeared-tall, with kind eyes and a gentle demeanor. It was Blaze and he was dressed in his casuals, and this is the first time i have seen him this way. And there was a reassuring calm about him that momentarily eased my anxiety.

- "Savannah!" -

- "How are you feeling?"

- "Any pain?"

- "Felling Dizzy?"

Blaze questioned as he took a seat on the beside chair with the concerned face thats what I saw I dont know if what I saw was correct, those words didn't immediately register. My mind was still grappling with the shock of waking up in such an unfamiliar place. I opened my mouth to respond, but my voice came out as a croak. I cleared my throat and tried again. "Where am I? What happened?" i continued "I remem-" Suddenly all the memory came back to me at one, the weight of those memories pressed against me like a storm cloud, dark and heavy.

"Where's Oliver" I questioned him to ask about Oliver, and Blaze seemed skeptical about answering my question, but he did "He's being taken care of, Savannah" I didn't comprehend what he meant when he said that, "What do you mean?" The figure smiled gently as he approached, sitting on the bed edge. "Later Savannah, I know you have been through a lot, but the most important thing right now is that you are awake and recovering." He continued "So think of anything just focus on recovering"

his reassurance did little to fully dispel my unease, but it was a start. I glanced around the room again, taking in the details-the delicate curtains, the lush plants in the corners, and the soft music playing faintly in the background. It was a world away from whatever had come before, and though I was still grappling with confusion, a part of me was grateful for the tranquility.

"What is this place?" I asked him again when I looked around me, it was an unfamiliar setting for me, "It's my secret room," he answered, confusing me and making me knit in confusion, he smiled and replied, "I come to this room when I can't make things." - "We're in the mansion?" He nodded "How am I here?" I added "How did I got here?" Continued "I remember giving up on my last chance for survival then-"

He cut me off again, like usual, "I would never let anyone harm you" I don't know if it was me or trinquilizer, but did he really say what my ears heard, my head started hurting again, so I let go of all the unnecessary thoughts. "You saved me?" I questioned back because it makes sense at the moment "Take a rest Savannah" he added "Your legs are not still healed" after looking at my legs wrapped in layers of gauze, I remembered how I got my legs trapped in a trapper for animals.

"You must be hungry, take a rest, I will be back" and he got up and was about to leave, but I gripped his right wrist tightly in my palm and demanded, "I want to know everything that happened after I passed out". As I knew that the man had done all this to me, I was in a nightmare and wanted to get out of their. He smiled and said, "Once you finish your meal, Savannah," and I let go of palm over wrist and he left.

I opened up my eyes as I thought of Theo. Where was he? I got up and stared at the door. Blaze was gone, I frustratedly ran my hands through my hair as I thought of Theo, I became anxious, I tried getting out of bed, but was unable to do so because my legs were not healed "Is anyone outside!?" I shouted out but no answer "Hello?" Again nothing just silence were giving an answers.

It seemed as if no one was there as no sound was heard, so I started looking around for my phone, but O couldn't find it either "where's my phone?" - "Where's it!" , and I found it on the desk, far from my bed, so I got around the bed and sat down, lowered my legs from the bed, and stood up on my legs.

Despite the pain, I ignored it and got up. I was stumbling with pain at every step I took, but luckily it was just five steps away and I got it, I initially dialed no, but something caught my eye, it showed 26th of October, today's 26th October? I remember the day I was kidnapped it was 19th of October, was I passed out for over a week!? I didn't know what was going on, I had a banging headache "The fuck!" -

I hurriedly dialed Theo's school and it rang but no answer. I again hurriedly dialed "Hello" Someone answered this time "Hello! I'm Savaanah, Theo's mom." I then asked "Is there Theo, please give it to him, I want to-" I was cut off midway and I heard the most shocking news of my life. "Theo's not between us anymore."
