Chapter 1 - The Harvest Queen Is Gone

Sally was just fired from her corporate job after she put years into the company. She sacrificed her years, social life, and personal happiness to help a company start and flourish. As she stared at the email sent by her newly former boss, she cried. "So many years I wasted on all of this. I gave everything!". Sally's apartment was full of trash and unfolded piles of laundry due to basically living at her job the past few years. "I need to make a change. First thing tomorrow, I will start cleaning and job hunting. But first, I'm going to do some self care!". Sally was always an optimistic person. She had to be in order to survive the cruel world. She lost her family at a young age and was placed in the foster care system. She was constantly passed around to different families. Some families treated her well, while other families used her as another form of income. Sally believed that if she put in hard work, she could eventually achieve her dreams. At the age of 16, she was able to be emancipated from her last family and become her own guardian. It was a tough obstacle but she quickly was able to get a job and a shabby apartment. By the time she was 18, she finished her GED and got a scholarship to college. By 21, she finished school and instantly got a job at a tech startup. Now at 23, she is jobless and still living in the same shabby apartment. Sally didn't do a lot in terms of self care. Although she was still young, she had dark circles under her eyes and a vitamin d deficiency. The only thing she enjoyed doing when she had the time was playing games. Her favorite game was Harvest Story. It was a farming simulator game where the main character has to save the Harvest Queen after a mishap with the Witch Countess causes the Harvest Queen to fade away from existence. As Sally clears some trash away from her apartment, she sees the game and her console. This is the first thing she wants to do in her newfound freedom. "I haven't played this in ages! Maybe a few hours won't hurt.". Sally plays for a few hours but somehow doesn't remember falling asleep. The next morning hits and she awakens to the sound of a loud bang on her door. "Wha?" Sally says in a confused tone as she awakens. The sun is shining extra bright today and she hears more animals chirping than usual. "Hello! I'm here to greet you! I don't have much time so please come out!" Says a burly voice. Sally fully wakes up. Her surroundings look very different than from the previous night. "Where am I?" She asks herself. The banging continues. Sally goes straight to the front door and opens it. "Good morning, I'm mayor Baldir Mostach, I have come to inform you that tax season will be here at the end of the year. You have accumulated 200,000 gold's worth of taxes and the 1st day of winter is when I will collect. I have brought you some farming tools and items to help you clear the land but that is all I can do for you. I heard that you are a magic user so put those skills to work and pay your debts off! Your farm is looking pretty rough! Good day!", Mayor Baldir exclaims and leaves as fast as he talks. "Um ok...", Sally says confused. "Wait.. Magic?". Sally cleans herself up and walks outside. There she sees a whole acre of land with tree stumps, boulders, and weeds. The sound of insects is rampant and there is a statue on the property that she can't get to. "I should probably clear a path to that statue. Maybe it will be a clue to how I ended up here." Sally starts weeding, hammering, and chopping. "This is going to take forever! Maybe I can use magic to help me!" Sally puts her hand out and shouts "clear!" At the remaining debris in her path toward the statue but only a dust cloud poofs out. "Well... that didn't work and I somehow feels very fatigued now. I wonder if there's a way to see my healthbar and mp usage.. guess I'll have to keep working ". 3 hours pass and Sally finally clears a path to the statue. As she gets closer to the statue, a strange figure is seen crying on what seems to be the lap of a stone woman. "Um Hello? What exactly are you?" ,Sally asks. The crying figure becomes less transparent. "How can you see me? I shouldn't be seen by mortals especially in my weakened state. If you must know, I'm a fairy." "Why are you crying?", Sally asks. "My master has turned to stone. This statue is her. I am fading because she was the one who gave all of us fairies power." "How did she turn to stone?" ,Sally Asks. "The Witch Countess. She had an arguement with my master the Harvest Queen. The Witch Countess wanted too much and my master wanted to supply the land with fertility and abundance. The Countess wanted to use all the crops and foraging for herself. Every crop and natural thing has magic power in these lands. It was meant to be shared with everyone but the Countess was greedy and chose to punish the Harvest Queen by turning her to stone. Now her power is fading and so am I!" , the fairy cries. "Is there a way I can help you? What's your name?", Sally asks. "My name is Fayim. And I must eat something grown on these lands. But there is nothing he for me to eat. And no time at all. A skilled magical farmer would have to make something fast for me to survive." ,Fayim says sadly. "Just wait here! I might be able to help!" Sally uses her hoe to till the land near Fayim. She sows some seeds in the soil and waters the crops. "Here goes nothing" She holds both her hands pointing at the soil and says "grow". As she says this, a sprout pops up from the ground. "This is still not enough! I must do it again!" She exclaims. She keeps repeating the spell and the sprout finally grows into a full sized crop. Sally pulls the crop put of the soil. It's a deformed beet! Sally takes it and gives it to Fayim. "Wow, that sure is a crop, I think..." Fayim says with a perplexed look. "I guess I'll eat it. Thank you for doing your best." As Fayim eats the deformed beet, he becomes fully opaque. The statue of the Harvest Queen glows and turned slightly more colored and less deteriorated. "The taste is somewhat bitter but it seemed to do the job! Thank you so much! And look! The statue of my master looks a little better too!" Fayim exclaims. "I can't believe that worked! I'm so glad! But gosh am I tired..." Sally says as she passes out.
