Alessia dropped the call and slumped into the chair. She had desperately hoped that Xavier's silence about the transplant meant there was still a chance, but now the truth hit her like a shockwave.
She curled up on the chair as tears fell from her eyes. She didn't want to see him die. She couldn't bear to watch anyone she loved die.
"Alessia," Matteo called out from behind. Alessia quickly wiped her face. "Yes, dear," she responded, not turning around.
"I know you're crying, so don't try to hide it."
"It's nothing, I just missed Mother."
"That's quite random," he frowned. "Francesco is conscious again. I saw it on the news."
"You must be scared," Matteo sympathized as he sat beside her on the sofa.
"That man is a maniac. I can't let him be around both of you, and I don't want to trouble Xavier either," she said, tears pouring.
