Thomas, whose face was now swollen, was also crying as he hugged Xavier. "You never told me you were struggling this much. You know I'm here for you, every side of you. I didn't mean to deprive you; I just wanted to help. I can't watch you die."

Thomas pushed back from the hug. "Let's get you a new heart, Xavier. You can survive this."

"No, no," Xavier replied. "This is the greediest I can be. While trying to subdue that monster, I became a monster myself. Even though I can't feel it, the scenes of Kil's messy killings turn my head. Sometimes I close my eyes, and I hear screams and cries of people burning in flames, but I don't feel guilty or sad as I remember it. I'm a stain on this world. Allow me to be purged from this earth."
