Claire twisted in her seat, rolling down the window and taking aim. Her hand was steady now, her focus sharp. She squeezed the trigger, sending a spray of bullets toward the SUV's front tires.
The first shot missed, but the second hit its mark. The SUV's front tire exploded, sending the vehicle skidding out of control. It crashed into a row of parked cars, metal and glass flying in all directions.
Mitchell didn't slow down. He kept the pedal to the floor, weaving through the narrow streets as more headlights appeared in the distance.
"More of them," Claire muttered, her grip on the gun tightening.
"We're almost there," Mitchell said through gritted teeth, his eyes focused on the road ahead.
But the second SUV was faster, more aggressive. It slammed into their rear bumper, sending their car skidding sideways. Claire's head snapped forward, the seatbelt cutting into her shoulder as the impact jolted through her body.
