Chapter 9 - 9. Katherine

The guests were evacuated safely through the emergency pathway. Willson helped with the security and police, but it wasn't enough. The robbers were already in the main building, meaning the staff were in danger.

I counted the guests when a sudden rush of adrenaline kicked in, a sense of fear entered my body only to find out that Maximilian was nowhere to be seen. I checked the nearby premises but there was no luck.

Tension was stopping me move, Okay let's think, I'm sure Max already evacuated with the others, but he was nowhere to be seen, Why?

Then a sudden realization passed, what if Max was still inside? No, he wasn't dumb enough to stay, he should have known about the emergency exit.

My hopes were unbalanced, the thought of rushing back to danger was out of the limit, especially on missions. But what if he is stuck, what if he wasn't told about the exit?

I was too consumed by my thoughts that I didn't notice the crowd of celebrities, the ambulance, or the press. If Max was inside, then he was in danger.

I stepped inside the building again, this time not as Margot Willer, But as Katherine Fowler. My gaze was sharp on the clock, after forty minutes the press was going to vanish, meaning I had to end this slowly.

I stepped past the kitchen section only to find two robbers holding their guns directly targeting the staff for cash. I took off my ring and threw it to lure them towards me. Once they saw me from the corner, I grabbed one's arm and pointed it at the other robber.

He shot his mate who fell on the ground, bleeding. Then I kicked his bottom hard and swung the gun to my side until it reached my hands and I shot him dead.

The staff were surprised but I assured them they were safe and that they had to leave. I took their guns and made my way to the main building. As soon as I saw the robbers, I shot them. One carried a knife to threaten the waitress but I managed to hold his hand and twist it till the knife dropped and he was left with a broken nose.

Just like that, I entered the hall to find Max lying on the ground, one of the robbers held his gun to his forehead. My bullets were out but that didn't stop me from not acting. I pulled a small table and threw it towards the armed robber.

The table crashed over him, leaving him with a bleeding head. I took his gun and rushed towards Mas who was caught heavily breathing. His skin was burning up and he was sweating like hell.

'MAX! MAX YOU OK.' he was burning up fast. 'OH GOD, Wait for a moment.'

I found a cloth and dampened it with water, placing the cloth on his forehead till his breathing calmed. A sudden realization occurred that we were still in enemy territory. And something told me that I shouldn't have screamed Max's name out loud.

About two dozen armed robbers held their guns in my direction. very slowly I placed Max on the ground and tried to negotiate with them, and of course, they denied it and thought it was amusement.

While cried out their laughter, Felix arrived through the emergency exit and pulled Max to his side. He handed me a suitcase that had all of my weapons. My dart gun, along with my bullet trigger and taser/ knife. Brought back bloody memories.

I assembled my weapons and pulled out my bullet trigger. The thing was huge but light enough for me to use. As soon as I shot one of the robbers, they stopped laughing and set their guns at me.

I was glad by the attention but too bad it was about to end. As soon as they pulled their triggers, I shielded myself by a steel table. They continued to shoot until the bullets finished. Now was my cue.

I jumped from the table with my knife and slashed their throats, one after another. They were fast to react their bodies but I was faster. One tried to punch me but it was too late, his friend took his punch instead and was found crumbling on the ground.

My bullet trigger shot the almost-runaway shits and my knife was held against the throat of the last remaining robber. I pulled his mask off only to see a middle-aged man with a twisted look. As before, negotiation was impossible and it left me to finally cut off his throat.

There was no one left. The quietness echoed throughout the room at my breath. It has been days since I had this much fun. My smile was cut off by a mysterious applause. It echoed in the hall until I saw who it was.

'Mr. Anthony, may I ask what are you doing here?', the guy was a creep once you saw him. True he was handsome but so small when it came to Max.

Anthony didn't stop smiling, his stares were straight directly at me. 'Margot wasn't it? I'm impressed, I mean look at this'. He waved his arm towards the dead bodies.

The problem occurred when he knew about this whole stunt I pulled. Now I just needed to lie. 'Well as Mr. Lance's bodyguard, I need to make sure no one hurts him, for that some strict measures should be taken'.

Me being his bodyguard was the perfect lie I could think of, but now I wanted to clear some suspicions, 'Mr. Anthony, what are you doing here? you of all people should know about strict emergencies'.

His glance dimmed by my question. 'I thought Max told you about our problems, seeing how you two are close'.

'Sometimes there are some things that a person could not open to'.

'Are you saying that I have something to do with this, Margot'.

'I need your alibi sir, or else my testimony would contain your suspicions'.

It took him a minute to speak, not that his answer was common but that it contained personal problems.

'Max and I were kidnapped when we were kids, some bastard killed seven people in front of us only leaving trauma and two years of therapy, but it turns out it didn't help much. A situation like this was a childhood reminder of our past and believed me neither of us handled it well.'

I guess this explained the heavy breathing and sweating. With his answer, Anthony left and I returned to Felix who was waiting in Max's car. We drove to his home which was bigger than I expected.

Passing his security was a problem. It took Felix five minutes to disable the alarm and the cameras. The interior of the house was massive. The walls were huge and the windows covered the ceiling.

I checked all the doors to find Max's room, it was on the third floor to the right, next to the cat's room. We placed Max on his bed and brushed off the sweat from his head. Felix changed his clothes while I paid my visit to the cat.

We finished the cleanup and decided to check his office for private files. Felix used his computer while I checked his files, it took us about hours until we found nothing. This mission drove me crazy, how could someone be this good at hiding something?

I decided to retire to my home but Felix told me to stay just in case Max woke up from a trauma attack. He handed me some clothes which were packed nicely. But I couldn't stop my anger after finding out the pink cardigan. This damn bastard never forgets.
