God, the weather was warmer than it was in New York. I just moved to D.C. with Felix. Our apartment was rented by Willson. I lived four blocks from my soon-to-be new job. Our apartment was just the right size, a small kitchen with two bedrooms and a living room with a medium-sized LED T.V.
The apartment was set up, luckily everything was functioning. Willson sent us our new and fake profiles. I was Margot Willer, and my occupation was also listed with my fake schools and colleges. Felix was now Jeffery Willer who shared the same school as me but our colleges were different. We reviewed each other profiles for the seventh time and prepared for my interview.
For the interview, I wore a dark blue navy suit with a black tie. My heel boots were perfect and my hair was pulled down straight. But the only problem was makeup.
'Need some help sis', Felix helped with the makeup, he said light makeup would suit better but he applied a little too much mascara. Nevertheless, I think he did an amazing job.
He gave me a ride to the company and told me to call him for pickup. I entered and felt people's gazes at me, they were looking and turning back their necks as soon as I made eye contact. The front counter lady was also shocked when she saw me, I told her that I was there for the interview. She handed me a number and told me to take an elevator to floor thirty-seven and the rest was guided as directions.
After I left, I still felt her gaze behind me. I found myself waiting in line for the interview. Guess what I was number sixty-five, and the number right now was nineteen. I hated this, I had to wait for five hours, five fricken hours that people behind me left. I observed during the interview that some people fainted and passed out while others kept their heads high and exited with crying faces.
'Number sixty-five, please enter'. Finally, it was my turn, I entered with my classic two knocks and the courage to meet with a version of Clark Kent, a female who looked like a keep-your-mouth-shut librarian and a huge muscular man in between, his brown hair pulled back, his physique was big and his stare was so intense that I finally found the reason why people fainted.
I kept my calm and gave my interview, yet again I found my soon-to-be boss glaring at me, he didn't talk or ask me anything. But the meeting soon came to an end. I exited myself and knew from the faces that I won the interview. I called Felix to pick me up and waited for him outside.
I didn't realize it had gotten this late. I waited for five minutes when I saw a glance behind my back, it was my soon-to-be boss. For a second our eyes met when I looked at him behind his shades, but then a car horned Felix arrived and I was glad.
'You know you should get a driver's license', he was always annoyed with me whenever I told him to pick me up from different destinations, but how could I tell him that I was bad at driving. I remembered the first time I went driving with Willson's fourth car, it was for the new movie that premiered Friday night. I was so messed up that I ended up crashing the car and got into a clumsy accident. From that moment on I never drove a car, nor any vehicle.
'The interview went well', I took the courage to change the subject, 'They looked pleased, and the CEO was kinda...'. 'Kinda what?'.
'He was Kinda cute'.
The car just stopped and pushed me with intense force. 'What the hell Felix, what gives man?', I turned to him only to see his shocked face. 'Cute!, are you kidding me, he looked like he could kill an entire army'.
That was true, his appearance didn't match his personality, but he looked soft from the inside. 'What I meant was, the way he was his actions, they were cute'.
'yeah right, men like him speak nothing, they talk with their eyes, did he ask you something?'.
'Nah, um, he was intensely staring at me, the whole time'. I can't lie but his stares were telling me to murder myself cause I don't belong there. Oh well, all that matters now is to go home, rest, and get ready for what's coming next.
The following Wednesday, I wore my best grey suit, had my favorite coffee, and headed to the company, I was told to sit beside other interviewees who looked quite sulled. I was enjoying my fresh coffee when a girl sat beside me and stared with deceiving eyes. Her eyes were mainly on my silver clip which was a gift from Felix this morning. She continuously stared at me till I got annoyed. 'Do you want something miss?'. My question didn't match my tone.
'Well yes I do', she pointed at my clip, 'How much for that?'. God, I hated women like her. 'Sorry, it's not for sale'. I wished to end this conversation but she wasn't going to stop. 'I think it is', she reached for my clip but I grabbed her hand and tossed it to her side. She was startled but soon anger boiled in her.
'HOW DARE YOU!', she shouted, 'DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM, MY FATHER_'.
'Miss Darwin!, please settle down', It was the lady who interviewed me, her name was Elvena Grnome. 'Now I would like to announce the newly hired secretary, but before that, we are greatly thankful for..'
She continued but I knew she didn't mean it. Normally most companies would send a text or an email but since this is Lance Real Estates, a special announcement is made. Karen Darwin, the third daughter of Candle Darwin, looked like she won, and that the position was hers.
'Now I will announce the new secretary for Mr. Lance, please give applause for... Margot Willer'. The crowd went silent, Karen looked shocked, she looked at me as I stood up and passed by her. I walked forward, my black hair dancing through my steps, and slowly people applauded.
Some whispers I heard on my way, 'She looks beautiful', 'God, look at her hair', 'I thought I liked cute girls but smart badass ones are now my type', 'She really got the looks for being the secretary'.
Foolish whispers, but they were right, I got the beauty and brains. I stopped and claimed my identification card, giving a small handshake to Elvena and she handed me a black folder. I guess I'm working for Mr. Lance. But where is he?
