Chapter 6 - The spirit

Kuro's world suddenly froze as his body tensed, the beast's growl sending chills down his spine. As the creature stalked closer, he could feel his blood pumping, the air charged with an ethereal haze.

Despite the gaze of this unwavering creature, Kuro refused to be a victim.

He gritted his teeth and calmed down. "Come at me bastard," he muttered to himself, his brain was on overdrive to think of the next move.

He took in a deep breath, looking forward to what was to come. And just as the creature sprang, Kuro reacted, firing a shot that pierced the air, With a loud bang.

The beast was quick, though, and it sidestepped to the right, dodging the bullet.

Kuro's heart raced as he clutched his weapon tightly, the cold metal of his weapon offering little comfort in the face of the creature. The stench of drool and foul flesh invaded his nostrils, making him want to retch.

He fought to keep his composure, but the thought of those blade-like teeth just inches away from his throat filled him with dread.

Kuro felt a wave of frustration wash over him as the creature twisted and tried to rip his face. "You damned wolf!" kuro voiced turned animal.

Kuro quickly jerked his head back, and swirled his hand into a circle,

He aimed his pistol at the creature's jaw, intending to blast it away.

The moment Kuro's fingers wrapped around his trigger, he knew he was too late.

The creature's body rotated as fast as the wind, and it easily latched onto Kuro's weapon.

"Shit" Kuro groaned.

The pistol was yanked out of his grasp and crushed in the pressure of the spirit's maw.

After seeing this only one thing was on Kuro's mind, he had to RUN.

Kuro began racing in the darkness dodging tree branches, rolling into pits scraping his skin, the smell of dirt and panting and soft fast pats of the creature behind him, continued to be the only thing Kuro could sense in the dark forest.

"Dammit!" Kuro cursed as he struggled to lift the pistol fast enough. Before he knew it the gun was in the creature's mouth again.

He could feel his grip slipping, and the creature's sharp teeth were dangerously close to his hand. With a surge of desperation, he pulled the pistol free and staggered back, narrowly avoiding the creature's snapping jaws.

He took a moment to catch his breath, his eyes fixed on the creature's glowing green gaze.

The creature bared its fangs, a low growl emanating from its throat.

Kuro's blood was pumping, adrenaline coursing through his veins. The creature's gaze was unwavering, and he knew the beast would attack him at any moment.

He rolled on the floor and then turned, a large rock left his palm, air whistled as it swerved through the air.

Yet again the beast dodged and was on top of Kuro, at that moment, Kuro took the revolver from his back and swirled his hand around.

Bang.

It hit the spirit in its right eye, blood, and gooey flesh splattering everywhere.

The creature screeched in agony, the sound piercing through the stillness of the night,

The beast went in a boiling rage, charging so fast that Kuro couldn't register it until it was too late.

Crunch

The smell of iron filled Kuro's lungs, sounds of bone and flesh tearing apart echoed in the air.

A sharp pain, a burning sensation in his abdomen.

Kuro's eyes were wide, his breathing ragged. The taste of blood filled his mouth, and a warm liquid flowed down his stomach.

"Damn!" Kuro spat out the foul-tasting blood from his mouth. His vision blurred as the pain intensified, his consciousness fading.

Kuro regretted his decision, he was way over his head and now he had to pay the price, blood flowed at an alarming rate, a growing blood stain taking over his stomach.

He ran, harder than he ever had before. His mind was numb, his heart racing. He could feel the hot breath of the creature on his neck, its jaws snapping, inches from his flesh.

A searing pain spread throughout his body, and Kuro stumbled, crashing to the ground.

"Get away you bastard!" Kuro spat out the blood in his mouth, as the pain spread throughout his body, making him grit his teeth. He looked down at the creature, its jaws clamping onto his shoulder.

This was the only chance Kuro had, as the beast chewed on his left shoulder he grabbed the gun in the right, pistol warm and wet with blood, and Kuro aimed the shot at the beast's head.

The creature let go as the bullet penetrated its skull, and with a gurgled screech the spirit vanished into nothingness, only a small stone left to prove it ever existed.
