"Lex, we need to leave Stardom immediately!" Bryan's voice cut through the air like a razor, shattering the trance-like state Lex had been in for what felt like an eternity.
Lex's gaze slowly refocused, his eyes locking onto Bryan's determined expression. The intensity in his friend's eyes made his heart race with a mix of fear and anticipation. "What are you talking about? I can't just abandon my life here," Lex protested, his voice laced with a hint of desperation.
Bryan's expression turned grim, his jaw clenched in a resolute line. "What life, Lex? We both know you're just going through the motions. You're a shell of the person you used to be. And I can't have you putting me in danger again. I've managed to evade the hunters for months, but I can't keep that up if you're by my side."
Lex's eyes narrowed, a spark of doubt igniting within him like a wildfire. "Everything you told me... was it all a lie?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. The words hung in the air like a challenge, daring Bryan to reveal the truth.
Bryan's shoulders sagged, his eyes clouding over like a stormy sky. "I didn't lie, Lex. But I didn't tell you the whole truth either. My parents died protecting our pack from the hunters. I had to flee Stardom to escape their notice. I've been trying to keep you safe, but it's getting harder by the day."
Lex's mind reeled as he processed Bryan's words, his thoughts racing like a runaway train. He felt like he was living in a dream, where nothing was as it seemed. He reached out with his mind, seeking Khaos' guidance like a lifeline.
"Trust him," Khaos' voice echoed in his mind, the words dripping with an otherworldly wisdom. "He's the only one who can help you."
"But what about the hunters?" Lex asked, his thoughts racing with fear. "I thought I was safe?"
Khaos' laughter boomed in his mind, a low, rumbling sound that sent shivers down his spine. "You think being the first werewolf makes you invincible? I died once, remember? And taking over your body won't make me invincible either. You need to learn to control your powers, Lex."
Lex's eyes snapped back to Bryan, who was watching him with an expectant gaze. "I'm ready to leave," Lex said, a newfound determination burning within him like a beacon.
But Bryan's next words made his heart skip a beat. "First, we need to head into the woods."
Lex's eyes widened in disbelief. "Are you crazy? That's where I almost died!" The memory from earlier still haunted him, his mind flashing with the image of how that arrow flew past him. That could have been his head!
Bryan's expression turned resolute, his eyes burning with a fierce determination. "That's where my pack is, Lex. We need to gather them and get out of Stardom before it's too late. The hunters are closing in, and we can't stay here any longer."
As they stepped into the woods, the dense foliage seemed to swallow them whole, like a living entity closing in around them. Lex's heart raced with every step, his senses on high alert, as if anticipating an ambush at any moment. The trees towered above, their branches creaking ominously in the gentle breeze, casting long, sinister shadows on the ground.
Bryan led the way, his movements fluid and confident, like a predator in its natural habitat. Lex followed closely, his eyes scanning the surroundings, searching for any sign of danger. The rustling of leaves, the snapping of twigs, and the chirping of crickets created a cacophony of sounds that made his skin crawl.
As they ventured deeper, the trees grew taller, and the air thickened with an eerie, pungent scent - a mix of damp earth, decaying leaves, and something else, something primal. Bryan's nostrils flared, his werewolf senses tingling, as he recognized the unmistakable aroma of his kind.
The trees parted, revealing a clearing, and in its centre stood an ancient, gnarled mansion, its walls shrouded in a tangle of vines and moss. The windows, like empty eyes, stared back, their panes glinting with a faint, otherworldly glow. It was the same one Lucien and Elena had come in contact with earlier.
"Welcome to the Moon Pack," Bryan said, his voice low and reverent, as he pushed open the creaking front door. "My pack's home, and our sanctuary."
Lex stepped inside, his eyes adjusting to the dim light within. The air was heavy with the scent of incense, old books, and the same primal aroma he had detected outside. The interior was a labyrinth of narrow corridors, flickering candles, and cobweb-shrouded portraits of ancestors long past.
A figure emerged from the shadows, tall, statuesque, with piercing green eyes and raven-black hair cascading down her back like a waterfall of night. Her presence commanded attention, exuding an aura of power and wisdom.
"Ah, Bryan." she said, her voice husky, the whole pack had been waiting for you. We need to talk now."
"What's going on?" Bryan asked,
Arianna's gaze lingered on Lex, as if searching for something.
"Don't worry, he's a werewolf." Bryan said immediately.
"We've had a sighting, two young hunters were spotted earlier, close to the coven."
Bryan's jaw clenched, his anger simmering just below the surface. "Those hunters. I should have taken care of them when I had the chance.'
Arianna's hand on his arm was a gentle restraint, her voice a soft caution. "Not now, Bryan. We need to think about the pack's safety."
"But why didn't you engage them? There were only two of them." Bryan asked.
"You know these hunters, Bryan, they've got a lot up their sleeves. And right now, we can't afford another confrontation, not yet."
Arianna's gaze swept the room, her eyes lingering on each face as if ensuring they were all on the same page. "We may need to relocate soon, before they come back for us. We can't let our guard down, not even for a moment."
