Chapter 6 - Ember flower

Kichiro Kame was a famous and successful 27-year-old model and engineer, deemed perfect by many people's standards. On a cold winter night, finishing a high school reunion on the day they graduated, Kichiro Kame died after being hit by a truck.

Now, after being reborn as Ianus Naosi, he is experiencing his first birthday in this world... And it's a little much.

Kichiro sat on his mother's lap, next to his father. They were seated outside in the city square on two noticeably grand seats that could spectate the celebration well.

The Embermark celebration was a bit different from regular birthdays. First, the celebration started at night with dancing, singing, and music around an unlit fire pit. The colors were noticeably akin to fire, unironically correlating with the whole "Ember" marking thing.

Many families of the city that Arryn Noasi was in charge of came and celebrated Kichiro's birthday. They danced for a while and chatted with people; Lano and Hai were nowhere to be seen, probably playing with their friends and socializing.

Kichiro observed the people dancing. He didn't recognize anyone's faces. For the entirety of his time here, he had never left the nursery, which was unfortunate considering this was a fantasy world with much to find out about. But that can all be done in due time.

Kichiro looked over at his father. His father was well-dressed and looked like a modern aristocrat. Strangely enough, this world was pretty modern in some aspects like clothes and food. His father's ivory hair was slicked back, exposing his beautiful orange eyes and sharp jawline. His father was on the leaner side and didn't seem that imposing; however, his gaze looked as if it could kill.

Kichiro felt the hairs on the back of his neck spike, remembering a certain incident with a needle. What even was that for? The celebration felt more like a festival, which wasn't bad but also felt pretty bland. He was pretty bored because he couldn't walk yet for some reason. But even if he could, he couldn't just get up and walk around. Calla's hand was holding Kichiro's baby waist, blocking him in case he lost his balance and fell. And then there was his imposing father who had yet to even look at him. Wasn't he supposed to be stressing over him? Kichiro sighed in his heart and looked back at the festival. As he drew his gaze back, the atmosphere suddenly shifted, and the dancers and musicians withdrew themselves to the sidelines.

Suddenly, a man dressed in an old-fashioned cloak dyed a contrasting green hue stepped closer to where Kichiro and his parents were sitting and bowed in respect. He lifted up his hood, revealing beautiful long beige hair and grey eyes. The man had a thin frame and looked more like a woman than a man. If it weren't for his flatter features, it would be hard to tell the difference.

"Elosan Veris Velorian," the man spoke, which struck Kichiro. It's rare for someone to say something and he didn't understand it. But from the atmosphere and the way his parents looked, it seemed like that was the acceptable thing to say. The man continued his speech.

"I thank you for the opportunity to invite me to young master Ianus's first Embermarking." The man spoke fluently and eloquently. It made Kichiro's ears itch. The man's gaze landed on Kichiro. His face seemed a little surprised at first, but then he smiled at him. Was this man crazy?

As the man finished his greetings, he began what he was sent to do. He opened the palms of his hands to the sky and closed his eyes. Purple flames sprouted out of his palms; he began to move, bending the fire to match his movements. When he dispersed it out, almost reaching the audience, he skillfully sucked it back in. After that, he began harnessing the smoke that emitted from the flames, bending them together, dancing almost.

Kichiro couldn't move his eyes; they were glued to the pretty man and the beautiful act he was performing. Everything was calculated. Kichiro could feel the heat of the flames from his mother's lap; he could feel its life. The performance ended too soon, and without even knowing it, Kichiro was leaning forward. The sudden stop snapped him out of his trance; he almost fell forward. Luckily, his mother's hand was there and didn't allow him to stray too far.

Calla was watching her son observe the performance; she saw how entranced he was and the glint of admiration in his eyes. She couldn't help but smile. "I knew you'd like it."

Kichiro, after almost embarrassingly falling, looked up at his mother who had amusement written all over her face in bold ink. He felt his face turn red. He's too old to be losing his balance. As this was happening, the citizens watching were engaging in an all-out cheer for the performer. The man bowed again and then thanked everyone for their time. Kichiro wanted to go catch him and ask him to teach him those tricks too, but he was unable. It was frustrating. He could only grumble sourly. Calla, still observing, only chuckled under her breath. Her son is really cute.

After the performance, gift-giving started. One by one, people lined up, introduced themselves, and gave their gifts to young master Ianus. Most of the gifts were jewelry; others were toys or books, nothing too exciting. There were the occasional cool ones, like one guy with weirdly big ears giving Ianus a dagger, the metal on it a cool grey tone. Gift-giving took a long time and was surprisingly even more boring than the dancing.

After it was over, the relief washing over him was immense. It seriously felt better than getting accepted into a top university. It even rivaled beer with pizza. Old Man Frederick's pizza. Kichiro's tummy grumbled at the thought of his pizza. It had been way too long since he had decent grub. He wished time would move faster; if he could marry time to get it to speed up for him, he would.

Hearing his son's hunger, Arryn called over a butler to serve up some food. Two men brought over a white-clothed table in front of the family and then served an array of foods. Kichiro's dish, however, wasn't what he expected. In front of him was an array of fruits he'd never seen before, a mix of peach-like shapes that are colored purple or apples that seemed more like bananas. The butler finely diced them up for him to eat. There were yogurts, and… chicken. It had been far too long. Seeing the slobber on the side of her son's mouth, Calla placed a napkin to wipe it with a motherly smile. Arryn quietly observed the scene, making sure no one noticed.

I'd have to give the butler a raise.

After eating, Kichiro felt fully satisfied from his birthday party. The celebration was still going on; however, what he didn't realize was that everyone was waiting for him. While reveling in the joy of eating real food again, his mother picked him up and turned him to her as she spoke.

"Okay, now to really have an Embermarking ceremony, you have to pick an emberflower and have it burn from your touch," she tapped her son's nose, as if showing him how he should do it – basically saying it's simple and easy.

Kichiro's view then shifted as he was turned back around and picked up by a familiar face, Bella. She took him to the center of the square and placed him on the edge of the fire pit. The fire pit had two rings: the stone part he was sitting on, a soil ring, and then the fire pit itself. There were no flowers in sight, which confused Kichiro, but then he realized that embedded in the soil was a small bluish seed. He quickly picked up on the assignment. He looked around at his options, not wanting to do too much or too little. He went for the second closest one to his right.

Remembering his mom's demonstration from before, he placed his chubby baby hands on the seed. The seed felt really cold unexpectedly. The warmth from his hands transferred to the tiny seed, and suddenly it sprouted, growing into a beautiful flower mixed with all sorts of purples and reds. As the flower fully bloomed in the short span of time, it began to burn, starting from its petals down to its roots. As it happened, many people started cheering happily.

I guess that was a success? Here's your writing with corrections:
