Inspector Rose sat in the cold, sterile office, staring at the clock on the wall as the seconds ticked by. Her fingers drummed nervously on the armrest of the chair, and she couldn't shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong. She had been summoned here by her superior, Chief Inspector Morgan, for an urgent meeting. The tone in his voice when he called had been off, colder than usual. She didn't know what to expect, but her gut told her it wasn't good.
The door creaked open, and Chief Morgan stepped inside, his face hard and unreadable. He shut the door behind him with a soft click and sat across from her. His eyes didn't meet hers as he shuffled through some paperwork, which only heightened Rose's anxiety.
"Inspector Rose," he began, his voice formal and distant. "We need to discuss the events surrounding your recent investigation."
