Chapter 8 - Chapter 7: Secrets of the Heart

On an ordinary Friday afternoon, Hailey was busy organizing company historical archives in preparation for an upcoming report. As she flipped through a stack of old photos, she suddenly came across a picture of Wayne from his younger years. In the photo, Wayne wore a confident smile, but her eyes were drawn to a faint scar on his face. That scar made her heart race, instantly transporting her back to that rainy night a few years ago.

It was a stormy night when Hailey, on her way home, discovered a severely injured man in a secluded alley, his face bearing a similar scar. Without hesitation, she called for an ambulance and stayed by his side until help arrived. She had never imagined that this man would turn out to be Wayne—her boss and friend.

This revelation left Hailey with a whirlwind of emotions. She tried to focus on her work, but memories of that rainy night and Wayne's smile kept resurfacing in her mind. Unable to find peace, she decided to meet her most trusted friends, Victor and Eva, to confide in them and seek their advice.

That evening, Hailey arranged to meet Victor and Eva at a cozy café. The café had a warm atmosphere, with simple decor and soft lighting that made people feel relaxed. She needed someone to talk to and help her sort out her tangled thoughts.

"Hailey, you seem troubled today. Did something happen?" Eva asked first, always quick to notice Hailey's emotional changes.

Hailey nodded, took a deep breath, and began to share her discovery. "Today in the library, I accidentally saw a photo of Wayne and noticed that the scar on his face is exactly the same as the one on the man I saved a few years ago." Her voice trembled, but she continued, "I don't know what to do. Should I tell him the truth?"

Victor was silent for a moment, then asked, "Why are you so confused? Wouldn't it be better to tell him the truth?"

"I'm afraid it will affect our relationship," Hailey replied, her eyes filled with conflict and unease. "If he knows I'm his savior, he might see me differently or even feel pressured."

Eva nodded, showing understanding. "That is a tricky situation. You need to consider what impact this truth might have on your relationship."

Victor looked at Hailey, speaking gently, "Hailey, whatever you decide, I'll support you. But I think Wayne deserves to know the truth. It's not just about respecting him, but also respecting yourself." Although Victor knew that revealing this truth could significantly change their relationship, possibly bringing them closer, he wanted to support Hailey in her decision, even if it meant he might lose her.

Hailey lowered her head, deep in thought. Victor and Eva's advice had given her a clearer view of both sides of the issue, but she still felt immensely confused and conflicted.

Over the next few days, Hailey pondered the matter constantly. At work, whenever she saw Wayne, the secret she held made her feel even more pressured. Wayne noticed her unusual behavior and tried to show concern, but Hailey always evaded his questions, claiming she was just tired.

One evening after work, Hailey walked home along the warmly lit streets. As scenes from that rainy night and the present replayed in her mind, she knew she had to make a decision.

Once home, Hailey sat on the couch, took out a piece of paper and a pen, and tried to write down her feelings and thoughts. She wrote: "Wayne, a few years ago on a rainy night, I saved a severely injured man. Today, I discovered that the man was you. This realization has left me feeling confused and conflicted. I don't know if I should tell you the truth. Perhaps, knowing this would make you see me differently or even feel pressured. But I also know that this truth should be told, as it respects both you and myself."

After finishing, Hailey took a deep breath, feeling a slight sense of relief. She decided to leave the letter on Wayne's desk, ensuring it was in a noticeable place.

The next morning, Hailey placed the letter on Wayne's desk before returning to her office, filled with anxiety and anticipation.

However, as the day went by, Wayne's attitude towards her remained unchanged. He continued to interact with her as usual, talking and joking, seemingly unaffected by the letter's contents. This left Hailey both relieved and puzzled.

She thought to herself, "Is Wayne really this calm? Or does this matter not concern him?" Her inner confusion deepened, but she decided not to pursue the matter further for the time being.

That night, lying in bed, Hailey reflected on everything that had happened recently. She felt both relieved, because Wayne's attitude hadn't changed, and puzzled, because she didn't know if Wayne had actually seen the letter.

In truth, Wayne had not received the letter. That morning, a colleague had accidentally mixed the envelope with a pile of documents, leaving it forgotten in a corner of the office. Wayne still had no idea that the person who saved him on that rainy night was Hailey. In his heart, he still could not see clearly the angel in the white dress from that night.
