"It's a tsunami!"
"Run! Run for your lives!"
Panic spread through the streets as the massive wave surged closer to the town. Though the inhabitants were mermen, most were land-dwelling mermen, unable to survive underwater. To be caught in the tsunami meant certain death for many.
"No… it's really happening," Glass muttered, collapsing onto the platform where she had just performed her ceremonial dance. Her movements, meant to signal the start of the festival, had unwittingly become the harbinger of the town's destruction.
"This is madness!" a man's voice roared from below the platform.
A middle-aged merman in fine attire, someone neither Uta nor Stella recognized, shouted with growing hysteria. His clothes and demeanor suggested he was someone of importance.
"Could that be Glass's father?" Stella wondered, recalling Glass's mention of her father—the town's lord—who had dismissed the warnings in the ancient records.
