Chapter 4 - Suspects

.. Amari's residence..

Alaya waltzs into my room not bothering to knock..

Hey bro, how's your new school, you haven't told me about it yet, she says

It's nice, I replied

But does it meet up to your standards?

It actually does, I say emphasizing on the 'actually'

Well that's a surprise, did anything cool happen, she asks a little too excited

We've got projects that last till the end of the semester so we've been grouped into teams.

great, you've started all the science stuff, good for you, any other interesting thing happen? she asked rolling her eyes

Nope, nothing serious, I reply

B-o-r-i-n-g... she said dramatically as she waltzs right out of my room.

I wonder what she was expecting.

Hey Amari, piper tags along as we walk through the school gates, I've been meaning to ask, yesterday when professor Collin asked you to pick a teammate in chemistry class, why'd you pick Kai, had you guys spoken before?

Nope, I reply, I just presumed he'd be brilliant and be an advantage to my team

Well lucky you, she said pouting, kai's like one of the smartest people in our class,I wish he was in my group, she said smiling, her smile drifting into imagination

looks like someone has a crush..

You know, I can put in a word or two for you when next I see him, I say grinning at her

She whiplashes to face me, cheeks a little red, how'd you?... you read my mind didn't you?

I didn't have to, you're obvious, I replied.

She scoffed, thanks for the offer but I'd rather crush from afar

Gas toxins..now what comes to your mind when you hear that,..gases that are toxic to the immune system right?...If I asked anyone to mention examples, you might say; carbon monoxide, or even hydrogen cyanide, but has anyone heard of Arsine,...you see there are different levels of gas toxicity and Arsine is probably on the highest level, it's so toxic, it could kill a human if inhaled In a few minutes, leaving no signs, for this reason Arsine is very limited for use in some manufacturing industries, and due to some privileged connections, your very own professor has been chanced to come in contact with an Arsine tank, held it in this particular hand, you might wonder, what's so special about holding some toxic killer gas, but I tell you it's a different feeling coming into contact with something so scientifically renowned, the teacher said proudly.

eversince class, Piper's been lost in thought over something the professor said, but saying it out loud would make her term me a 'mind reading' freak so maybe I'll let this observation slide.

Hey, you okay? Sebastian calls piper out of her thoughts, you've been staring at nothing.

well I'm glad he noticed

Yeah I am, piper replied, I just... ,something professor Matt said reminds me of one of the murder cases.. Sebastian, do you remember case three?

Case three.. Sebastian repeated, trying to recall, yeah that's the one where the girl was found in the chemistry lab

Do you remember the cause of her death, piper continues, it was said she inhaled a large portion of arsine

yeah..yeah, I remember Sebastian added

I lean forward... this is getting interesting

Piper continues, the detectives mentioned that whoever the killer is, has or had access to a manufacturing industry using arsine in their production

..just like professor Matt did, Sebastian commented

Okay, I spoke up, but that's not enough reason to make him a suspect

No it's not, piper agrees, but I also noticed something else..if you look closely at the left side of his neck, just below his chin, directly on his thyroid cartilage, there's a 'V' tattooed on it.

Hold on.. how did you notice that to detail? I had to ask

I have an autobiographical memory, meaning I have eagle vision and remember everything I see to detail, piper replied

that's pretty impressive, I admitted

a 'V' like the killer tattooes on his victims, Sebastian stated bringing me back to the main point

Yeah piper replies

I think we need to discuss this elsewhere, Sebastian says taking note of how quiet the class was

Cedar Creek High..drama room..

..So he knows a lot about arsine, has access to a manufacturing industry using arsine which is a means of murder by the way and has a tattoo similar to the one the killer leaves behind, piper states while walking in circles.

and what do we do with this information? I ask

We tell my dad of course, piper just stated three valid points we have against him, Sebastian says

But we could be wrong, piper cuts in, we have a probable means, but we don't have a motive

true, I add....maybe he had hidden business with this student, what do you guys know about her?

not much, piper replies except her name was Sierra and she was a sophomore

Is there a way we can find out more? I ask

I really don't see the need, Sebastian argues, we don't need to know why he killed her, we already have incriminating facts against him.

Okay, piper says, so we tell your dad, the police call him in for questioning, what if he turns out innocent and all this 'facts' are just a coincidence?..we could risk exposing a secret the school has worked so hard to keep.

so what do you think we should do about this? Sebastian asks

we keep this to ourselves for now, piper replies and to answer your question Amari, I think I know a way we can learn more about the victim without exposing a thing...
