Chapter 6 - Elara's Warning

The stronghold resonated with the thunder of combat, a chorus of clashing swords, and cries of defiance. Alaric led the way, his blade shining in the flickering torchlight. The enemy surged ahead, a torrent of darkness and steel, but the rebels fiercely resisted them.

Elara stood next to him, her hands radiating an enchanted vitality. Her powerful spells sent waves of force that halted the assault and strengthened the rebels' defenses. Her presence was a beacon of hope, and her might attested to their will.

As the war went on, Alaric's eyes darted into the anarchy in search of any trace of the traitor. His heart hammered with a mix of will and dread. They refused to let themselves be uninformed.

Darius navigated through the chaos, his gaze fixed on the spy. Desperate, he battled with a determination that sprang from nowhere; his blade sliced precisely through the enemy lines. Every darkness felt like a menace, and every face seemed like a possible traitor.

On the other side of the chamber, he saw Lysandra moving quickly and powerfully. She battled with terrible determination, her eyes blazing with a mix of wrath and terror. Darius understood they would have to work together to identify the traitor.

He called, "Lysandra!" and headed towards her.

She spun, her eyes narrowing, to meet him. Darius asked, "What is it?"

Darius said, "We need to find the spy." "Students could strike at any moment."

Lysandra nodded, her posture stiffening. " agreed. Allow us to divide and cover more ground. We cannot let them catch us off guard."

As the fighting raged on, Alaric personally met one of the Serpent King's lieutenants. The hostile warrior was a hulking blackness, clad in dark armor. Their swords collided in a deafening ring, with sparks shooting with every blow.

The lieutenant snorted, his voice tinged with contempt, "You cannot win." "The Serpent King will crush your poor rebellion."

Alaric's hand tightened on his sword. "We will see about that."

Driven by enormous determination, he battled with everything he possessed. Alaric's will was stronger than the lieutenant's; he was powerful alone. Disarmed the assailant, then sent him flying to the ground with a last, hard strike.

Alaric turned to face the following attack wave and saw movement out of the side of his eye. A dark man slid through the chaos, moving with a subtlety that froze his spine.

Elara also sensed danger. She built a barrier around the middle chamber and peered into the darkness, looking for the traitor. Her brain raced as she tried to predict the opponent's next action.

In the darkness, suddenly a figure appeared, a dagger gleaming in their palm. Elara's eyes grew wide when she identified the face—that of a rebel she had trusted.

"Why?" she insisted, her voice shaking with a mix of amazement and rage.

The traitor's look lacked regret, and their eyes were icy. "for power." The Serpent King promised me a seat right by his side.

Though Elara's heart hurt with treachery, she had no time for mourning. She was ready to defend herself with her magic.

Darius and Lysandra kept looking; their weapons ready and their eyes alert. Their senses were sharp for any clue about the traitor; they traversed the stronghold deliberately.

As they rounded a corner, they came across a man in the shadows. Their backs turned opposite each other. Darius's pulse shot when he recognised the shape—a fellow rebel, someone they had fought months apart.

Darius murmured, "Lysandra, be careful." His grip on his blade tightened.

The figures turned, their eyes cold and exacting. "So you have found me," they remarked, their tone full of contempt.

"Why compromise us?" Lysandra insisted, her voice bursting with resentment.

The traitor sneered. The traitor mocked, "Your insurrection is doomed because you were naive to imagine you could stand against the Serpent King."

Darius had a flash of rage. " We'll see about that."

Alaric battled back in the center room with fresh energy, his mind on defending Elara and the rebels clear. Though they held their ground, the fight was intense, and the attackers were tenacious.

She released a strong blast of magic as the traitor attempted to attack Elara, sending them slamming to the ground. The energetic barrier around the chamber bolstered their defenses.

"You won't win," Elara answered, her voice firm. "We fight for more than just power; we fight for our people and our freedom."

Though their eyes fluttered with uncertainty, the traitor's will strengthened. "You will die with your cause, then."
