Chapter 12 - Memories: Ordinarily Boring Life

[1752 YEARS AGO]

The Imperial Magic Academy

It is the last day of the of the semester at the Imperial Magic Academy and all the students are going home for a break.

Ryuga Xicor is leaning his back by the stone pillar of the school building as he reads a book. A carriage pulled by four fine looking horses pulls up by the entrance. While looking at the the carriage man, the sound of a baggage trunk and footsteps approaching filled his ears.

When he turned to look, the one he saw was none other than the first princess of the Nexus Empire, Irla Reign.

Beautiful as one could imagine. Crimson red hair and red eyes. Wearing a black imperial robe. There is a powerful aura of authority and power around her as she passes.

Before she gets into the carriage she halted her movement and turned to Ryuga who responded by locking eyes with her. Without a word she got into the carriage and left.

'Why is it that she always gives me a feeling of deja vu?' a fleeting thought came to Ryuga.

He closed his book, which he was reading and walked into the school building.

"Well, aren't you leaving Ryuga?" a boy similar in build to Ryuga spoke to him from behind.

Ryuga, knowing who it was, had an expression of distastefulness on his face. But it vanished as soon as he turned to look at the one talking to him.

Pergusis Moon, a member of one of the eight noble houses of the Empire.

"Not really, I'm just here to wrap up something, Ash and I will be leaving together soon."

"If you don't mind, I could give you a ride on my carriage. You and I should talk about something. Just the two of us of course."

"I would like that very much, but you see, I really must find Ash. But maybe we might meet in some time. I will take my leave now "

Ryuga bowed slightly and left without looking back. Pergusis has been poaching him for over 3 months and it just keeps getting worse everytime they meet. It was only luck that he didn't teleport him into the carriage without asking.

Walking into his dorm room, he immediately started packing his luggages and put them larger bags into his storage magic, leaving a black backpack on the bed.

Moments later after laying on the bed with his eyes closed to catch his breath, a girl with blue hair and hazel eyes stood by the door - which was left open- and looked at him for some time.

"If you have to say something it's best you speak you know, some of us aren't psychic. Ryukka."

"I'm sorry I was just passing and thought of coming to see you, you know.."

"What's up? Need my help?"

"I just wanted to ask if you're entering the Imperial Selection Competition or you'll apply directly to the imperial army with your academy scores and all?"

"I would apply but, I have no interest at all in the empire whatsoever. And Ryukka, I know I'm the one who got you admitted into the academy but, it's not a must for you to tell me any decision you take."

Ryuga walked to Ryukka and brushed her hair with his hand.

"Know that I will always look out for you like a sister you are to me. That's the promise I made after all." He added with a smile. "Now, do you mind helping me look for Ash? As promised, I'll take you to my home town" with a smile he gestured for her to follow her out the door.

Ryuga and Ryukka were walking in the hallway, and looking down below out of the window and at there training grounds, Ash was training swordmanship by himself.

"I suddenly don't know if I should be angry or sympathetic at him. Honestly, he's really something."

"Is there a reason he has to train so hard?" Ryukka asked out of sheer curiosity.

"That's something you'll know in time. You should go and get him, tell him it's time we left." Ryuga said turning his back to go back to the room.

"Wait, why am I the one getting him when you're the one looking for him!" Ryukka caught him by the back of the collar before he got far.

"Come on little sis….. I'll let you borrow the book I was reading." He negotiated

"No thanks, I think you shou.."

"It's history and weaponry." he cut her off.

"I'll be right back."

Ryukka left in that moment and went to Ash while Ryuga went to the room to get theirs luggages. Ryuga stood outside by the gate as he leaned by the large iron bars with his backpack. Of course his luggages were well stored via Storage Magic while he just guarded Ash and Ryukka 's luggages.

Ryukka came out of the school building pulling Ash by the ear as they argued. Ryuga just took a deep sigh and turned his back the moment they got close to him.

"I think your squabble will be better if you had it on the way home. Otherwise you'll be walking alone. I can't believe I'm stuck with people like you."

Ryuga spoke heading away and leaving them behind. Quickly they used Storage Magic to contain their luggages and caught up to him. They walked with him side by side for some time until they came to a forest and two paths that avoid it by going to the sides.

Once again Ash and Ryukka got into a heated argument about which path to take, an argument which Ryuga totally ignored and sat on a rock to read a book whilst he takes a break.

"I wonder why I should be the one to babysit?" Ryuga thought to himself.

About forty minutes later he stood up and walked right into the forest without even entertaining the ongoing argument.

After some time of walking, they came to a river which they got some water and refreshed themselves.

"So Ash, how long do you think it'll take us now?" Ryuga asked looking at the sky through the branches of the trees.

"I'm not sure maybe 16 hours give or take. And that's just a speculation made on our pace."

"Then considering where we are, I should be able to sense some energy from Arcadia —"

"Roaaaar.... Roaaaar" a sharp Roar echoed through the forest capturing the attention of the trio.

"Magic Beasts shouldn't have noticed us yet." Ash said looking around.

What he said wasn't wrong. Magic Beasts are attracted by Magic Artifacts people with high magic reserves. But they masked their magic meaning they shouldn't have been noticed.

" That's because it's not Magic Beasts. That was the Roar of a scargrim." Ryuga responded seriously.

"Scargrims shouldn't be this close to a settlement to begin with. So what are they doing here?" As followed with a question as they stood back to back ready for battle.

Ryuga thought for a moment and raised his head in realisation.

"Ash. I'll leave Ryukka with you. If I'm fast enough I can get home in less than twenty minutes. I think Arcadia is in trouble."

They both nodded and Ryuga left immediately. Moving as fast as he could and jumping on branches to better maneuver through the forest.

[The Capital City Arcadia]

In the sky black clouds gather as if a storm is approaching. Strong wind blows from the west bringing with it an eerie sense of uneasy.

The residents move about in a rush as disturbance fills the atmosphere.

A middle aged woman watches all this standing by the door. Silver hair with plump lips and hazel eyes that give a tender look. Wearing black jacket with long blue pants. She is Ryuga Xicor 's younger sister, Allura A. Ryuga.

"Mom! I think we should leave." She spoke looking at the west gate of the city.

"What's wrong honey, is the something?" Her mother, Jesselia Ryuga -who looks almost like her twin than mother - came to her.

"A torrent enough of dark Ohra is coming this way. I've been sensing strong magic from the west, but it's been clouded by this dark energy. It's so terrifying I can feel the chills down deep into my bones." Allura spoke embracing herself.

"It's probably just a passing —"

*Booooom*

A large explosion that sent powerful shockwaves across a part of the city interrupted them.

A large black portal opened up and magic beasts along with scargrims came out of it. Black cloud seeped out of the portal absorbing magic in the atmosphere and withering plants that come in contact with it. Any living thing had its life absorbed by this cloud of darkness.

Seeing the monsters from afar, mother and daughter had the look of terror on their faces as the clung to each other.
