Chapter 9 - The Brother and Sister Of Vaud

"Ryuga, wake up. It's not the end yet, get up now." A voice that sounded melodious woke him up. But when he opened his eyes there was no one in the room.

"Was that the Resemblance or, possible vestiges of Irla?" He asked in Wonder, not anyone in particular.

"Looks like I haven't fully healed, two wounds are still healing. And the pain seems to have subsided if only a bit." He looked around the room but couldn't remember anything or even where this was. His body covered in bandages from hip to neck.

He got out of bed and walked out the room in a shirt, down the corridor and the kitchen was at the end. The girl from back then was setting the table. And she raised her head to see Ryuga.

"Looks like you're a lot better. Come, let's have lunch together." She gestured for him to take a seat.

"How long have I been unconscious?"

"About a week and a few days. Oh, and I haven't introduced myself yet. I'm Amara Vaud, nice to meet you." Amara introduced herself with a bright smile as she sat down.

"I'm Ryuga Xicor. Say, where are my clothes?"

"Oh, you were all bloodied, so I washed them. I hope you don't mind, I also used the herbs I found on you."

"No problem at all. I was going to use them up anyway."

With that, they had their meal in peace and an informative conversation. Amara left saying she had to get her brother's medicine shortly after.

Her brother was badly wounded back when he was a researcher in the empire 100 years back. After a fierce battle with a test subject his body was in such a bad shape that no one could heal him.

Of course he may have good healing since he was half-human half-demon, but the uncontrolled excess chaos magic he still had nullified all external abilities hence he was let go by the empire. He has slowly been dying and withering away with nothing he could do.

Amara has been trying all sorts of herbs and medicines, but none seemed to restore his health. But she still has faith that somewhere out there, awaits the power to heal her brother. And she will give all she has to get it, as long as it won't be to serve the empire that abandoned her dear brother.

Ryuga went to the room and got into his outfit. "Well it appears my body is a lot stronger than expected. My soul was able to keep the resemblance sheathed even when I was on the brink of death."

He went out for some air and the atmosphere was rather soothing and relaxing. Though it was in the late afternoon, the breeze of air was calm and cool. The sun warm and only about one and half hour before it sets. The sky all clear without any hint of bad weather approaching.

"This place sure has a beautiful terrain." Ryuga spoke to himself. His Shadow Eye glimmered for a passing second and a calm beautiful smile was on his face.

Just as the sun was about to set, Amara arrived on a horse. They watched the sunset as Ryuga stood leaning against the wall and Amara sat down beside him. The sun painted the sky beautifully as it set.

"What a beautiful sight this is. I must say I really missed seeing something like this." Ryuga spoke with admiration.

"Yeah it's a beautiful sight indeed. I wish my brother would let me see this with him just once." Sadness gloomed on her face as Amara said this.

Later they went indoors and had dinner with good conversations going along. Ryuga then went to the room he woke up in to sleep. After lying on the bed, he closed his eyes in concentration.

In the next room, there was someone powerful. Ryuga spoke directly into that person's mind using <Shared Mind-Space>. It's a psychic ability that lets people connect their minds and communicate.

"Hey there, can you hear me?" No reply.

"Vaud, can you hear me?" Still nothing.

"It is best you answer if you want to help Amara." Ryuga one last try.

"Please get out of head and leave her alone." Someone answered, a man. This could only mean it's Amara 's brother.

Ryuga deactivated the ability and went to sleep. He didn't sleep because he was tired, heavens know he could spend as many days as needed awake.

He just wanted to let his wounds heal so he can use his magic - and sword - before getting his core.

...

...

<The next morning>

Ryuga 's wounds had healed so he got into a routine like the past him.

Exercise, bathing, clean his teeth and have breakfast.

And a normal and tasty breakfast is what he had. Three slices of bread, fried eggs, roasted chicken and a warm beverage. They call it coffee. And it was something to really die and kill for.

During the meal, Ryuga suddenly asked Amara a question.

"Would you mind if I healed your brother?"

"But you know what I said. No healing abilities would work. And I wouldn't want you hurting yourself with something that might not work"

"I understand. One, I've always failed because I found no fun in winning. Two, my wounds are healed perfectly. And lastly, I never disappoint those who trust me."

Amara left to take care of her daily tasks after breakfast. Ryuga cleaned everything and then went to have a talk with Amara 's ill brother.

The room was clean, with the window slightly open and the curtain slightly dancing in the cool breeze of air. The was a nice scent of flowers that filled the room. Maybe because of the white flowers in a vase on the bedside.

Ryuga walked in and sat on the chair by the side.

"Hello Franklin Vaud. It's me, the guy who was in your head last night."

"What do you want?" Franklin lying on the bed, spoke with a clear voice.

"To repay a debt to your sister. I would probably be dead if it weren't for her. So I offered to heal you. Which I will do right now." Ryuga said standing up.

The magic circle like bracelets appeared around his wrists and a three dimensional magic circle appeared right above Franklin.

Franklin felt like he was being torn apart, being stretched in all directions. He felt like his very being was being broken down.

Ryuga Xicor simply looked at the man gritting his teeth with his shadow eye and the answer was clear. "It appears your chaos magic is breaking down your soul and body simultaneously. Well then, what to do?"

Ryuga separated Franklin 's soul and body. That body disappeared with a faint light and a complete body identical to it, appears.

He then repaired Franklin's soul and restoring wounded parts of it. Then he moved his soul into his body.

Thanks to the long week of slumber he accumulated close to half of his energy reserves. And if anyone was to attempt what he just did, they would without a doubt perish.

Ryuga then made a soul barrier on the unconscious men. It only served to make sure the soul grows accustomed to the body. 'Less than an hour should be plenty'. Ryuga thought as he left the room and headed to the kitchen.

He had nothing but coffee as he waited alone. Since in the past he only had it once, he never gave it any attention at all. Now it just tastes all so delightful.

After some time, Franklin came out the corridor and stood on the other end of the table. But Ryuga paid him no attention till he finished the cup of coffee which he gulped down.

"How is your new body? Do you like it?" Ryuga asked with a smile but didn't get a response.

Amara also walked in to find Franklin staring intently at Ryuga. What caught her attention is that her brother was standing.

Like a child who missed her parents who left long ago, Amara dropped the bags in her hands and ran to her brother.

Tears of immense happiness rained down her cheeks as Amara hugged Franklin tightly. Whimpers filled the room as Amara fell to her knees.

...

Ryuga watched nonchalantly, as if nothing of interest was happening. For the first time as long as he could remember, he was feeling no ounce of emotion.
