I started to get out of car but stopped as a thought came to me. I lost the door and then leaned down and typed in blood magic into the computer.
The software brought up a listing for crime dating back to a century ago when it was last used and the crime being illegal in the entire known realm of Drakescape. Every tribe in the realm had one law and punishment for the propretrator of the crime. Death by fire or other means.
The reason being a simple one. It was uses to bring in invaders into the realm that set the realm in a century long war to the brink of destruction until the Draconian had with the help of the Iron born technology and leadership of Captain Arnold Blair had ended the war violently.
The spell had been outlawed ever sense. So whoever did this was looking to start another war or was just damn crazy nut job that wanted to kill and drain someone of their blood. I leaned on the later side of this kind of thing. Humans. I noticed in my old life were just nuts. Humans did things for the most stupidest reason or selfish reason. It always made sense to them of course. But it was always just an excuse.
Living in this fantasy world filled with every kind of human and magical or dark humanity or animal creature I had learned were the same. Whatever nut job did this was crime had to put down before he got fan club or people started copying this bullshit.
Two hours later, I was waited in my favorite booth sipping my coffee as I waited for Erica and Fire to show up. I had already sent out a pack messenger to them to make them aware of what was going on an hour ago. I expected them to either arrive or send one of their betas to ask what the issue was.
Though honestly, I hoped they came instead. Dealing with one of their young were-wolf betas was annoying enough. I was odd to them. Hell I was odd to myself. I gotten used to being a were-wolf now easily. Almost to easy. I was powerful dominant were-wolf compared to the others.
Whenever I was around the others it seemed to cause no end of sudden challenges my way from them. Erica and Fire felt threatened by me or assumed some times that I was playing a trick on them to take the pack leadership. A thing I had no interest in at all.
I had a job, a room at the Crossroads a pack with Angie and friends in the city. My new life was in the city not in the borderlands between were-lands and Drakescape. I was happy were I was and in the skin I had been dropped into. I was also set in my ways like I was back when I was human.
I smelled Erica and Fire in the wind before they came in through the double doors of the Crossroads. They looked around until they found me and then smiled a moment before glaring at me and then looked like they were about to skin me.
I didn't get up as they rushed toward me. "I ran into a case this morning. A fairy kind oracle called me to help her. Do you recognize the scent on me?" I asked.
They stopped at my cold response to their threatening intentions and snarls at me. I stared at them. They both stared back waiting for something.
"I'm hunting for a murder. My client said you would help point me a direction to a possible lead to the victim that was was murdered used in the magical homicide." I said picking up my cup I sipped on my coffee and stared at them.
Erica stared at me with intention trying to force me to submit and look away from her this only succeed in having a different effect on me. She flushed whem she realized what she was doing to me and looked away. Fire walked up to me and slid in beside me. I made room for her and she kissed me.
Fire stared at me and relaxed. "So what happened?" She asked
I smiled turning a bit toward her. "I was at the bar being trained my Drakes and laughing at dirty jokes when a letter came in by magic. A oracle told me about a time event that just happened of her kidnapping. Fairy kind took her and were trying to use her in a dark magic spell. I found her bathed in fresh blood of were-kind. She was in shock. She told me to bring you in the case to capture the Warlock that killed the owner of the blood. So you know the second victim in the case?" I said.
Erica slide into the booth facing me and leaned over to stare at me. "How much of Marcus' memories do you have left?" She asked.
I shook my head. "Nothing beyond you and Fire but even those memories are like a fog. I'm learning who you are now. I don't remember or know anything else. What happend?" I asked.
Erica relaxed. "Okay. The blood scent is Eva Night. She went missing a few weeks ago from one of the packs in the were-lands. We assumed she was dead by now hearing the reason for the murder will bring a war between the fairy kind and whoever else had a hand in this bullshit." She said and study me for a reaction.
I stared at her. "Dr. Blair and the spell-swords told my sister whoever did this has a death sentence on them already. Blood magic performed is an illegal crime everywhere in Drakescape. It's what brought on the previous war here cost over a million lives here bring in the demonic forces." I said.
Erica frowned at me. "I thought you didn't remember anything of the past." She said.
I shook my head. "I don't I looked it up in a database and I've had a few conversations with some old heads around the block. Fairy Kind people suffered the worse in the war because they lean heavily on the light magical side as I've been told. I think this thing is less complicated then that." I said.
Erica frowned shaking her head. "Less complicated. It doesn't seem complicated to me at all. Fairy kind conducted in an operation to summon some demonic force here and killed a young girl and then kidnapped and used another a lady in the same process. It's got fairy kind all over it. Why can't you see that. It's war against the fairy kind period." She said.
I shook my head. "Well you can think what you want. I just have one question?" I asked.
"What? Ask it. You won't change my mind on my course of action to inform the other alphas of the packs to declare war on the fairy kind for this shit." She said sounding calm but her scent and blood red glow of her eyes said otherwise.
"How was a were-wolf female able to be subdued and then butchered by a fairy kind. I've seen them up close and personal and fault against one of their magic users. They're magic and power of voice had no effect on me." I said calm.
Erica shook her head looking confused now. "You're a sorcerer. A magic user like them. You were able to subdue and defeat them with your magic. Fairy kind have explosive and powerful magic." She said.
I shook my head. "No. They're not as strong as we are. Magic is infused in our bodies and minds. Were-wolves from my observation with you and myself we have dominance natural resistance to strong magics in our very being. The most one of their magic users could do was attempt to stop movement in one part of my body before I just simply picked him up and threw him away. No by and large the fairy kind have to be third or forth strongest in this world. How old was she?" I asked.
Erica leaned forward taking my hand on the table. "Are you sure fairy kind aren't stronger then were-wolves? Are you certain.?" She asked.
"Yes. I am. We're second strongest with the Draconian being the only ones above us. Eva could not be taken by or killed by Fairy kind let alone butchered. How old was the girl?" I asked.
Erica leaned back and banged a fist on the table denting it. "Twenty-six. She was of age and one of future strongest soldiers and possibly an alpha." She said.
I nodded and tapped my finger against the table. "She had to have been taken by one or two males strong enough to hold her and take her on." I said.
"What about the Draconian? Do you think one of them would have done this?" Erica asked.
I shook my head. "No. No. Dr. Blair sets the law here. No Draconian male or female would go against his command and people here have a long memory about the last war caused by some asshole who played with magic summoning shit to call demonic freaks here. I don't the Draconian had a hand in it. If Eva was a strong female and a Draconian found her she would his wife by now. Draconian take strong females as mates anyway. Whoever did the kidnapping and homicide had to get close to her. We find him or them then we can figure out later if it matters why they did what they did though I already have my guesses why?" I said.
Fire put her hand on my lap and smiled at me. "So what are you thinking?" She asked.
Erica stared at me. "You already suspect someone. Do you know who they are? Yes. Of course you do. You can see where this whole shit is going. Damn it. Who are they?" She said getting pissed off again.
I shook my head. "I don't know anything for sure I just have a guess. I'm going to need to take a visit into the were-lands to see if I'm right and to get a feel for the timetable she went missing, who figured it out first and when did everyone start searching. Who knows me showing up suddenly might surprise some people enough to do something stupid or make a mistake. We'll have to move fast though before word gets back to them about what the hell happened?" I said tapping my fingers on the tables.
Fire snorted in laughter and hugged my shoulder. "Holy shit." She said and kissed my cheek.
Erica stared at me. "You do know who did it. Sage." She said.
I snorted shaking my head. "No I don't know. I've just worked enough cases in my old life and reviewed enough cold cases to see a pattern in this thing that has little to do with any grandiose plan as you might think and I might be wrong. I need more information to go on." I said.
Erica shook her head along with Fire. Erica stared at me. "No, Sage. I don't think you are wrong. Whatever thing you see about this case as you call it is correct. You are a sage. You ready to go?" She asked. I have no idea what the hell she was saying but the time for talk was done it was time to hunt.
I nodded. "I am. Let's take a trip to the were-lands." I said.
