I arrived at the parking building for cruisers down town. The city guard at the walk way entrance inside waved me through. "Evening Mr. Sage. It's the dark yellow one top level in the spot marked twelve." He said.
I nodded and went inside taking a flight of stairs up to the top floor of the parking building. I looked around for a few minutes until I found the spot marked twelve. I stared at the cruiser in the space in surprise. It was yellow and taxi with the checked marks on the sides and even the taxi sign on the hood.
It looked straight out of a 1950s movie or the period era. I stared at the taxi walking around and then went to the driver's side to open the door. I sniffed the air as I smelled Angie.
I turned and saw her smiling at me. "How do you do that?" I asked.
Angie shook her head. "It's not that interesting enough to explain. It's something I learned from Mr. Big recently. Can I get a ride to the Crossroads sense you're headed there." She said guessing correctly where I was going.
I nodded waving her to the other side. "Sure. Hop in." I said turning to the door and opening it up with the key. I slid inside and stared at the advanced computer systems and wires around. It all looked strange and way more advanced then I thought it would be. This was interesting. Angie knocked on the door.
I slide over opening it for her. Angie slid into the passenger seat next to me. She slid inside closing the door behind herself with a loud metal chunk sound. This ride was all metal.
"So. I heard about your case with the fairy kind oracle. So will you be comfortable driving this thing?" She asked.
I put the key in the ignition, started it up and put my foot on the break and switched it for reverse and started backing out of the spot until I was clear enough to put it in forward drive and started moving. I smiled at her.
"Automatic drive. I was expecting Manuel but I can work with this. So what you got for me big sis?" I asked driving for the exit gate down a ramp.
Angie was quiet for a bit. "I got to ask a favor from you but first. I got a message from his Majesty and the elders of the spell-swords." She said.
I frowned but nodded as I drove up to the gate the city guards man lifted it for me with a switch in his booth. I waved to him as I passed the gate and drove out onto the street. "Sure. What's the message then." I said.
"If you find yourself in a bind with this case just remember to think about me and I'll come to help you out with the taking care of any monster or magical creature to tough for you to handle. But, whatever case you get from your mates you should handle it immediately and quietly as possible." She said.
I frowned at the weird message but nodded. "Alright. I can handle that just fine. So any ideas what I'm going to run into when I get the job?" I asked.
Angie was quiet. "Miss Emily expressed to us that blood and magical circle were used on her when you rescued her from her kidnapping. Is this correct?" She said instead of answering my question.
I nodded my head. "Yeah. They used a lot of blood on her. She used some type of spell to get it off her but some of it got on a table cloth as I made an attempt to clean her off. I'm expecting they got the blood from were-person or magic-user of some kind but the scent in it." I said.
Angie sighed. "Okay. You might encounter a class M9 blood magic user or Warlock in the demonic arts. If you can get the upper hand on them then you'll be able to survive and kill them before they cast a spell to call up help and demonic slaves if you can't or believe you won't be able to surprise them remember to think about me and I'll show up and help dispose of them." She said.
"Blood magic Warlock, huh. Are you working her case?" I said.
Angie nodded. "I am. That is why I wanted to talk with you quickly as you are heading out to begin your next case and it was also told to me as well. I have experience in dealing with demonic slaves and monsters like a Warlock." She said.
I grunted and studied the road as I drove through the city and let my instincts lead me to the Crossroads. "If I get in anything involving a warlock in blood magic I'll leave that sort of thing for you to deal with. What's the favor you needed from me?" I said.
I could feel Angie's energy change as she grinned at me. "Mr. Big has recently gifted me recently with a new cruiser as your own. It is linked to the new MLS with city station computer. Do you have knowledge the new of communication devices?" She said.
I pulled over to the side of the road and parked at a corner. I looked down at the computer keyboard and pressed the enter button. The computer screen woke up. There was a sign up screen. One line for name and the other for class. I typed in Danny Sage and for class I put in Ranger and hit enter. I was brought into the software screen and again it felt whoever engineered the graphic user interface had to have come from my world.
It looked oddly like the software I used when I was a cop. I tried looking up street addresses. The poped up easy and I looked up offenders. A whole damn list of bounties came up for host of magical creature crimes.
"Oh. You must have been a master user of communication devices in your old life." Angie said.
"Angie. How are you guys able to have this kind of technical advancement. This wasn't here when I showed up a few weeks ago." I said.
"His Majesty sent an order out to the Iron born to produce this system. They call it a Magical Linking System. It's a mixture of magic and Iron Born technology. It is interesting mix technology and magical projection. But, a few of us are finding navigation of the interface to be troublesome." She said.
I looked up at her. "You need help working with the computer in your ride? I'll help you out." I said and straightened up in my seat taking the wheel I began to drive.
Angie grinned. "Thank you. So how is everything with your instructions in bartending?" She asked.
"I'm enjoying myself." I said honestly. "I love filling in for Drake when he has a date with his old lady and work has been slow for Ranger jobs all in all life is pretty good." I said.
"How is it going with your mates and pack?" She asked.
I snorted shaking my head. "Not good at all. The pack for most part can't get past the fact I'm not Marcus to get over it and learn to get to know me. My mates. Well. That's complicated. We get on well in sex but beyond that they're confused and still distrustful of me whenever I go near their pack and adult children. I find it best to sleep at the Crossroads. The conversations and work keeps me busy." I said.
"Oh. That sounds sad." She said.
I shook my head and turned a corner that lead to the Crossroads bar that was on her side of street. "Not at all. They're not my pack. Your pack Angie. I feel it every time I'm with you and I get on well with your husband. He's good man that treats you good." I said.
"Mr. Big is not my husband. He's my betrothed. My destiny and my enemy." She said.
I frowned at that and parked at the side of the street. I looked at her. "How long you two been in engaged?" I asked.
"Forty years." She said.
I stared at her. She snorted in laughter. "I'm half immortal Danny. Age is different for me. I'm still in human terms in a mid-twenties. Remember now. Don't worry about me and Mr. Big." She said.
"What's it like being in love with a god?" I asked.
Angie shrugged. "Exciting, thrilling and intimidating. I had no choice in the matter but I find myself consistently trying to keep him interested. I think when I become a full immortal I fill like I can take him on and match his energy for in bed and our muck fights." She said and leaned over to kiss my cheek. "Remember me if you meet the Warlock. Your not ready to deal with his kind yet.." She said.
I nodded. "I will. I prefer hunting then fighting monsters." I said.
I watched her open the door get out and disappeared.
