Chapter 49 - Time to finish this

As soon as Aeliana darted off into Leora's castle, I leaned back in my car seat, the grin I'd plastered on for her benefit finally slipping. I glanced down at my hands, flexing my fingers. The purple flame danced at my fingertips, a small but potent reminder that my magic had returned.

"Time to finish what I started," I muttered to myself, determination hardening my features. That rogue demon had bested me once, but it wouldn't happen again.

I drove back to my own castle, my mind racing with strategies and plans. The rogue demon had been formidable, stronger than most I'd encountered. It had a cunning intelligence that had caught me off guard. But now, with my magic back and a renewed sense of purpose, I was ready.

Upon arriving, I wasted no time summoning my little purple fire demons. They flickered into existence, each one a tiny, glowing ember of my own power. I dispersed them with a wave of my hand, sending them to scour the surrounding areas for any sign of the rogue demon.

"Find it," I commanded, and they zipped off in all directions, leaving me to wait and plan.

The hours ticked by slowly. I paced the halls of my castle, my thoughts consumed with the hunt. Each passing minute felt like an eternity. I could feel the impatience gnawing at me, but I knew that rushing in blindly would only lead to another defeat. I needed information, and I needed to be prepared.

I spent the time honing my skills, practicing my spells, and studying the maps of the region. Every so often, one of my fire demons would return with snippets of information—sightings, disturbances, anything that might lead me to the rogue.

Finally, as the sun dipped below the horizon, one of the fire demons returned with news. It flickered excitedly, its form pulsing with energy.

"You've found something?" I asked, my heart leaping in anticipation.

The demon nodded, and a vision appeared before me, projected from its fiery core. A dense forest on the outskirts of our territory, a place of shadows and twisted trees. The rogue demon had been spotted there, lurking and waiting.

"Good," I said, extinguishing the fire demon with a flick of my fingers. "Time to finish this."

I grabbed my weapons—a pair of enchanted daggers—and strapped them to my thighs. With a final check of my gear, I stepped outside and took a deep breath, feeling the night air cool against my skin.

Teleporting to the edge of the forest, I stood still for a moment, letting my senses adjust to the surroundings. The trees were tall and foreboding, their branches intertwining to create a canopy that blocked out most of the moonlight.

The air was thick with the scent of earth and decay, and the occasional rustle of leaves indicated the presence of creatures both big and small.

I started my search, moving silently through the underbrush. My eyes darted around, scanning for any sign of the rogue demon. My heart pounded in my chest, the adrenaline making my senses sharper.

Using my magic, I sent out pulses of energy, hoping to catch a hint of the demon's presence. Each pulse came back with faint echoes, the forest absorbing the energy and distorting the readings. It was frustrating, but I pressed on, determined to find my target.

Hours passed as I navigated the dense forest, the only light coming from the faint glow of my magic. I was about to take a break, frustration building within me, when I felt it—a surge of dark energy, unmistakable and strong.

"There you are," I whispered, a grim smile spreading across my face.

I moved towards the source of the energy, careful to stay hidden. The trees began to thin out, revealing a clearing up ahead. I crouched behind a large boulder, peering around it to get a better look.

In the center of the clearing stood the rogue demon. It was tall and muscular, its skin a dark, mottled gray. Its eyes glowed a sinister red, and horns curled menacingly from its head. It looked even more powerful than I remembered, and a shiver of both fear and excitement ran down my spine.

I took a deep breath, steeling myself for the fight. This time, I would be ready. I sent a silent command to my remaining fire demons, summoning them to my side. They appeared in a flash of purple light, hovering around me like a protective shield.

With a final check of my daggers, I stepped out from behind the boulder, my eyes locked on the demon. It noticed me immediately, its lips curling into a sneer.

"You," it growled, its voice like gravel.

"Me," I replied, my voice steady. "Ready for round two?"

The demon roared, a sound that shook the very ground beneath my feet. It charged at me, its massive fists swinging. I dodged to the side, my movements swift and precise. My fire demons swarmed the creature, their fiery bodies latching onto its skin and burning with an intensity that made it howl in pain.

I moved in, striking with my daggers. Each slash and stab was calculated, aimed at weakening the demon. It fought back ferociously, its claws raking across my arm and drawing blood. I gritted my teeth against the pain, refusing to back down.

The battle raged on, a deadly dance of magic and muscle. I could feel my strength waning, but I pushed through, fueled by sheer determination. The demon's attacks were relentless, but I matched them blow for blow, my fire demons aiding me at every turn.

Finally, with a well-placed stab to its heart, the demon let out a final, guttural roar before collapsing to the ground. I stood over its lifeless body, breathing heavily. Blood dripped from my wounds, and my muscles ached, but a triumphant smile spread across my face.

"I told you I'd finish this," I said, wiping the sweat from my brow.

I took a moment to catch my breath, my fire demons flickering out one by one as their energy was spent. The forest was eerily silent now, the only sound the soft rustle of leaves in the breeze.

I looked down at the fallen demon, feeling a mix of satisfaction and relief. It was over. The rogue demon was dead, and I had avenged my previous defeat.

But as the adrenaline began to fade, a new thought crept into my mind—what would Aeliana think? Would she be impressed, or would she see this as another reckless act?

Shaking my head, I pushed the thought aside. There would be time to worry about that later. For now, I needed to get back to the castle and tend to my wounds. With a final glance at the demon's body, I teleported back to Leora castle, ready to face whatever came next.
