Chapter 147 - It's alright

As I stood there staring at Aeliana, locked in that small cell, my heart pounded in my chest like a war drum. Confusion and rage surged through me as I spun around to face Leora, who, with that infernal grin still plastered on her face, was the one responsible for this scenario.

"You did this? You locked her up?" I accused, my voice an unsteady whisper raging with anger.

Typically, I ruled with fire and fury, but at that moment, I felt like a mere candle flickering in the storm of emotions swirling around me.

Leora raised her hands innocently. "Hey! It was either that or have you two avoid each other until the end of time.

This way, you can finally sort things out!" She practically danced on her toes, brimming with enthusiasm, completely oblivious to the tension radiating between me and Aeliana.

My mind raced through the implications of her actions. "Sort things out? You call locking her up sorting things out? This isn't some children's game, Leora!

We don't negotiate our feelings in a prison cell!" The words came out sharper than I intended, but the fear of losing Aeliana to misunderstandings twisted my heart so unbearably tight.

Aeliana remained quiet, her emerald eyes fixed on me. I could see the lingering hurt there, even in the dim light of the throne room. Memories of our last encounter raced forward, blurring the lines between past grievances and the present fracture.

The kiss I hadn't meant to happen, the girl whose presence had sent Aeliana spiraling into a tempest of jealousy and confusion it all seemed a million years ago, yet didn't feel a moment too distant.

Leora, however, was as stubborn as ever. "You two need to talk! Look, it may not be ideal, but this way, no distractions!" Her enthusiasm felt utterly misplaced, the urgency of her words contrasting sharply with the heavy atmosphere filling the room. "And I promise it'll be fun!"

"Fun?" I laughed humorlessly, feeling a bitter taste on my tongue. "Locking someone up isn't exactly my definition of a good time, Leora."

Aeliana finally broke her silence, and her voice came out low and tight. "Ciara… we… should just talk." The softness in her tone reminded me of the affection we'd shared, and I clenched my fists to ward off the feelings gnawing at my chest.

"I… I didn't want this," I admitted, stepping closer to the cell, ignoring the heavy chains clanking around me like a ghostly chain of misfortune. "I never wanted you to see that kiss."

Aeliana's brow furrowed as she leaned against the bars. "Ciara, I thought we were okay. You apologized, and we talked about it. But then... I saw that and it twisted everything in my head."

My heart sank further. "But it meant nothing, Aeliana! She caught me off guard! Nothing happened between us!" The passion in my voice drained as the weight of my next words crashed over me. "I swear. I was trying to prepare for… for everything! I never intended to hurt you."

Aeliana's eyes flickered with something skepticism mixed with the remnants of love tangled with doubt. "Then why did you not tell me about it? A simple heads-up? I'd have understood if you'd been honest, Ciara."

"There's never a right time!" I exclaimed, feeling a flash of frustration. "You were angry! And I didn't know how to navigate this tempest. I thought it would explode—it did explode. I didn't want to lose you." I stepped a bit closer, drawn in by her intense gaze.

"Ha! Seems you're quite adept at losing me," Aeliana shot back, crossing her arms, and suddenly our proximity became an unbearable distance filled with both longing and bitterness.

"So here we are, with you pretending to care while I'm locked up like some villain in your story. How do you think that feels?"

"I was the villain, Aeliana!" My voice cracked, the admission weighing heavy in the air. "I let that happen. I was foolish, thinking I could protect you from everything."

"How noble of you." Her tone dripped with sarcasm, and my heart clenched. She had every right to be angry. Somehow knowing that didn't make this easier.

The walls of the prison cell seemed to close in around us as silence fell heavily, thickening the air with unspoken words.

I took a deep breath, willing my heart to slow. "I miss you, Aeliana. I've missed us this. I can't lose you to misunderstandings. Not again." I softened my voice, trying to bridge the chasm that had formed. "I'll do anything."

Her shoulders relaxed a fraction, and for a fleeting moment, I could see the vulnerability creeping back into her expression. "Anything, Ciara?" she replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "What does that even mean?"

"I mean it! I'll fix this I'll fight for you. I'll learn how to communicate properly, to be better! Just... just give me a chance." Desperation tinged my words.

The thought of Aeliana disappearing from my life shattered me more than fire or fury ever could.

Aeliana looked at me as if weighing my sincerity, and the quiet stretched. I edged closer, a plea in my gaze. "Please don't give up on us. We've worked too hard to let it slip through our fingers."

Leora, ever the eager spectator, chimed in, swaying slightly on her feet. "Come on, Aeliana! You know Ciara will save all the enchanted dolls just to make you smile again! You both care too much for this to end in anger. It's practically tragic!"

"Tragic?" I echoed incredulously. "It feels like we're reaching the summit of a tragic comedy here."

Aeliana's expression softened somewhat as a ghost of a smile played on her lips. It was brief, but it ignited a flicker of hope within me.

Amid the fluctuating tension, I quietly repeated, "You matter to me, Aeliana. I can't let my foolishness cost us this connection."

"Well, it's a start," she replied, a hint of wariness in her tone, but I could sense a crack opening in the armor she'd built. The cell felt less like a prison now, more a temporary cocoon shielding two souls from the chaos outside.

Each second felt weighty, wrapping around us in a blanket of unresolved feelings. I could practically feel Leora biting back her excitement at our burgeoning moment—a web of pent-up energy shaking in her presence.

"I need you to understand," Aeliana continued, her voice like a whisper on the breeze, "I'm still wounded, Ciara. This requires work. Trust is not easily reclaimed. It will take time."

"Anything for you." I reached through the bars, taking her hand carefully, as if she might shatter into a thousand pieces under the weight of my touch. Aeliana clenched my fingers, and my breath caught.

Leora, ever the opportunist, chimed in again, bouncing on the balls of her feet. "Look! A touching reunion! This is good! Progress!"

"A progress that seems very temporary," Aeliana shot back, but her voice held less venom now. "What happens when the dust settles? What if I'm too broken for this?"

I squeezed her hand tighter, grounding myself and her to an unbreakable promise. "You're not broken, Aeliana. We've both been shattered in our ways. But we have a chance to put the pieces back together. And maybe we'll create something new along the way."

Aeliana hesitated, still searching my face for hints of insincerity, and all I could offer her was earnestness. "Let me prove it to you. You have my word."

There it was silence wrapped us up again, the grip of our held hands firm, steady amidst the chaos. Aeliana's expression softened, and the tension ebbed like the tide retreating from the shore.

Every heartbeat echoed with our unspoken hopes and fraught emotions as the dust of uncertainty settled.

Then, finally, after what felt like a millennium, she exhaled softly. "Well... it's alright."

In that moment, I felt a wave of relief wash over me as Aeliana's words hovered in the air, delicate and fragile. Without thinking, I stepped closer, our bodies collapsing into an embrace. Her warmth wrapped around me, igniting a flicker of safety in the storm of emotions. It was a hug filled with unspoken apologies and promises, a silent agreement that we'd navigate the chaos together.

Aeliana's head rested against my shoulder, and I inhaled the comforting scent of her hair. Everything felt right for the first time in far too long.

Just as I relished the closeness, a loud rattle pierced the silence, and Leora burst into the room, the grin on her face broad enough to rival the moon. "Well, look at you two! Isn't this darling?" She didn't wait for a response, marching straight towards the cell door with a confident flourish. "Your cozy little tête-à-tête is over! Time to escape this drama!"

Aeliana and I exchanged glances, the gravity of our earlier emotions still palpable between us, but the thrill of liberation beckoned.

Leora fumbled with the lock, her fingers deftly dancing over the mechanism. With a triumphant click, the cell door swung open, and she gestured for us to exit.

"Come on, you lovebirds! " Leora declared, motioning for us to follow her out.

With one last grasp for reassurance, I intertwined my fingers with Aeliana's. Together, we stepped into the chaotic unknown, hearts united and spirits ignited, ready to reclaim our lives beyond the confines of the cell.
