Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: Realization

The Great Master has never arrived late, so Wei Wei isn't concerned, but it's also common for him to be a few minutes late. The clock keeps running, and before she realizes it, 7:45 p.m. has arrived. Wei Wei is becoming concerned. She sends NaiHe a message even though she knows he's not online——

"Are you around?"

She expectantly receives no reaction.

She sends out another one after two minutes. After a while, Wei Wei stops sending them and instead keeps refreshing NaiHe's name; however, the system keeps telling her that the player is not online, so she is unable to update his profile.

MonkeyWine, YuGong, and the rest are all in gray.

not on the internet.

8:50 p.m.

Wei Wei appears in front of the non-player character on her alone at the door. Although her avatar has the team setup icon on top of it, she is the sole member of the team that is there.

A large number of players have already begun to congregate around the NPC; spectators are welcome to observe the top couples elimination rounds and the finals. The folks waiting to purchase tickets to enter are those who are gathered outside. However, people are starting to wonder why ReedWeiWei (HumbleReed) is standing there by herself, so they start chatting in front of her.

[Local][BugGnawingLettuce]: "Why is ReedWeiWei the only one there? In what location is

Why Not Just Smile, ASmileNaiHe?

[Local][FishingWire]: "He's not going to be late, is he?"

[Local][963]: "He's running late for such an important competition?"

[Local] [NotWearingUndiesIsVeryRefreshing]: "You shouldn't be worried—there are still 10 minutes left. Best professional gamers always arrive after hours."

At 7:55 p.m.

I'm waiting for you in front of the NPC at the entry, Wei Wei says coolly, ignoring all the conversations. Just get over there right away."

The spectators carry on with their conversations.

[Local][DingDingCleanse]: "Not much time remains." Why isn't he here yet?

[Local][RocketTurtle1.0]: Is it possible that he won't be arriving?

[Local][IdiotBaby]: "Good God, is history repeating itself and these two are divorcing too?"

[Daydreamer] [Local]: It doesn't appear to be the case. Why is ReedWeiWei standing here if they are divorcing?

[Local][ThunderboltCallsWow]: "Perhaps ReedWeiWei got dumped again," I would speculate.

8 p.m.

Wei Wei is now receiving messages from an increasing number of pals. Wei Wei opens and shuts each one separately. Finally, she closes the chat window by clicking the mouse window that NaiHe is in.

The throng steadily thins out.

[Local][①SingleForLife]: "Leave, let's go," The old dude over here is just bored.

[Regional][☆CheNing☆]: Nevertheless, I had anticipated a fantastic PK competition today. Fortunately, I chose not to purchase a ticket."

It's like hogging the toilet and not wanting to take a poo, says [Local][DogTailGrass]. Why aren't you leaving if you're not coming in to compete? Without any resistance, the other server is emerging victorious. Disappointed

[Jäger][Local]: "That's not really possible to say. Our server might not have advanced to the finals if not for ReedWeiWei and A Smile NaiHe.

[Local][RoManTic]: "Let's observe and see." Three minutes remain for getting ready. They still have three minutes to enter the tournament.

[Local][July]: "I don't believe he will be arriving." Sadly, I believe ReedWeiWei is really extremely awful.

[Local][ContinuousLittleRainMianMian)]: "She really is pretty awful, huh?"

8:02 p.m.

Wanting to enter the arena by herself, Wei Wei clicks on the NPC, but it tells her that she must enter with her spouse.

8:03 p.m.

The system bot declares that the pair from another server has won the PK tournament since ASmileNaiHe and ReedWeiWei forfeited.

8:03 p.m.

Wei Wei gets off the computer.

*********

"I believe Wei Wei has been having issues for the past two days."

In their dorm room at night, Xiao Ling speaks wisely as she stares intently at Wei Wei, who is using a computer and headphones.

That is typical. Exam season is here. Every examination period, she transforms into a nasty monster, Er Xi responds, her pen still in hand, without looking up.

"However, she isn't engaging in online gaming."

It is typical. She won't be eligible for a scholarship if she continues to play video games. She won't have any money to play video games the next semester if she is unable to secure a scholarship. Um, Without stopping, Xi keeps writing and queries, "How come you still have the time to worry for Wei Wei? Just the day before, weren't you crying all the time? How is Da Zhong faring?

He's alright. That was something he did to himself. He was thick-skinned enough to go along to the graduation supper held by his fourth-year seniors. Observe what transpires? An accident occurs with them.

When they discuss it, Xiao Ling becomes irate and neglects Wei Wei while disparaging her lover.

It is clear that Wei Wei, who is lost in her own world, is unaware that her roommates have been chatting about her. She is engrossed in viewing the footage of the female robber kidnapping a man. She hasn't played the game in the last two days; instead, she's been studying and repeatedly viewing the video. After learning some vocabulary, she finds herself unable to stop watching even when she doesn't want to play it. Her heart feels congested and won't go away; the only thing that seems to help is watching the movie.

or, more accurately, just after she spots that shadow.

I smile, Hai He.

I smile, Hai He.

Wei Wei calls him by the same name in her heart while she looks blankly at the computer screen.

Simple, melancholy music plays as the white-robed musician appears on Sunset Summit. Wei Wei is reminded of how she felt that day when she stood in front of the NPC by herself to enter the arena by the way his back shadow appears bleak and lonely.

At the time, she was most likely in a panic.

She wasn't upset that she couldn't compete or that she was stood up. She experienced terror, fear, and helplessness. She was thinking nonstop in the final moments.

Why is NaiHe still not present?

Is there a chance that he won't return?

Too many players depart without saying farewell; perhaps in this sense, does NaiHe also vanish?

For the past three days, she has been unable to stop viewing the video. She continues asking herself, "Maybe this video is all that remains of her and NaiHe's past relationship in the years to come?"

Sigh

On her bed, Wei Wei lays helplessly, speechless about herself.

How did she get into this foolish and ludicrous frame of mind all of a sudden? Perhaps something came up that prevented NaiHe from attending. Why is she giving this so much thought? To find out if NaiHe has indeed vanished forever, all she has to do is check into the game. She won't sign in; why is that?~~~~

She keeps having disorganized ideas as the tale of the female robber comes to an end; the vision pauses on the red-clothed heroine and the white-robed musician till it fades to white, to the somber accompaniment of music.

Wei Wei dabs at her tears. She is crying again after seeing the video because it is that amazing. To be honest, the first time you view the movie, it's really touching; but, after watching it several times, you'll start to lose interest in it.

However, this time she is truly crying again.

As Wei Wei looks at the picture of the tasteful white-robed musician, a profound insight slowly but silently dawns on her....

She slams her laptop down, discards her headphones, and tucks her head beneath the pillow.

Aw, oh dear, it seems like she's suddenly turned emotional.

I'm so sorry.

It appears she has found love.
