Chapter 64 - Seeing a ghost

Li Hao's high praise made Hu Yue extremely anxious. Although Wang Ping wasn't the deputy secretary in charge of judicial and criminal investigations, he was still a high-ranking municipal official. Even if he didn't take direct action, his connections alone could ruin Hu Yue. Moreover, his immediate superior was also present.

"No, Director Li, you misunderstood. I wanted to tell you that Ye Qian escaped from prison last night," Hu Yue said.

"What?" Li Hao was shocked. His eyebrows furrowed tightly. Ye Qian's case was already complex and troublesome, and now that he had escaped, it was even more problematic. No matter what, he had to find Ye Qian quickly, or it would be disastrous if Ouyang Cheng's people found him first. "How did you let him escape? Take me to the detention cell immediately," Li Hao demanded angrily.

Hu Yue didn't dare argue and timidly led Li Hao to the detention cell. Wang Yu, Yang Wei, and Sun Jisheng followed behind them.

"Who was on duty last night?" Li Hao asked.

Hu Yue quickly gave Sun Jisheng a signal. Sun Jisheng nervously stepped forward and said, "Re...reporting to Director Li, I was on duty."

Li Hao glanced at him and said, "What happened? Explain it in detail."

So Sun Jisheng repeated what he had told Wang Yu. Li Hao coldly snorted and said, "Could it be that the suspect had to escape because of torture during interrogation?"

Sun Jisheng was shocked. He didn't have the guts to do that, and besides, with Ye Qian's skills, how could he dare to torture him? "No...no, I didn't," Sun Jisheng stammered.

"Hmph!" Li Hao coldly snorted and said no more.

Deliberately slowing his pace, Li Hao waited for Wang Yu to catch up and quietly said to her, "Xiaoyu, I went to your house this morning and talked with Vice Secretary Wang. Ye Qian's case might be complicated. You must be present during the arrest to prevent anyone from acting recklessly. Got it?"

Li Hao, being Wang Ping's close confidant, frequently visited Wang's house and was naturally familiar with Wang Yu. "Brother Li, are you worried they might kill him to silence him?" Wang Yu asked.

"Yes, that's a possibility. For public and private reasons, you must ensure Ye Qian's safety and not let anyone get ahead of us. Vice Secretary Wang has already started working on it, and Ye Qian must not have any incidents at this critical time. Besides, he's my second brother, and I don't want anything to happen to him," Li Hao said.

"Even if you didn't say it, I know what to do. Don't worry, Brother Li. I won't let anything happen to Ye Qian," Wang Yu said firmly.

Seeing Wang Yu's determined expression, Li Hao was slightly taken aback, sensing something but unable to pinpoint what it was.

As they approached the detention cell, Li Hao and Wang Yu stopped talking. When they reached the cell where Ye Qian was supposed to be held, they were shocked. Ye Qian was lying comfortably on the bed, leaning against the white wall, with a group of prisoners respectfully massaging him.

Ye Qian wouldn't be foolish enough to escape from prison. That would give his enemies an excuse to go after him. Besides, what could happen to him in the police station? Last night's actions were just to find out who was behind his setup. Now that he knew everything and had all the evidence against Ouyang Cheng, there was no need to escape. After leaving Ouyang Cheng's villa, Ye Qian had Li Wei hand over the evidence to Wang Ping and then sneaked back into the detention cell. Although Ye Qian wasn't entirely sure about the relationship between Wang Ping and Ouyang Cheng, he knew they were rivals since they were both deputy secretaries, and the upcoming municipal committee election made them competitors. Using Wang Ping to bring down Ouyang Cheng was the best choice.

For Ye Qian, this rundown police station couldn't hold him. He could come and go as he pleased, just like he did with the CIA in the past.

Yang Wei and Sun Jisheng were more shocked than anyone else. They had personally designed and participated in Ye Qian's escape plan. Although they hadn't seen him leave, he was indeed gone when they woke up. Had they seen a ghost? Watching Ye Qian comfortably lying on the bed and enjoying a massage, Yang Wei and Sun Jisheng were at a loss.

Seeing that Ye Qian hadn't escaped, Li Hao and Wang Yu breathed a sigh of relief. Li Hao turned his cold gaze to Hu Yue and said, "Chief Hu, didn't you say the suspect escaped?"

Hu Yue was at a loss for words. He had just arrived at the station and had heard it from Sun Jisheng. How could he have known that Sun Jisheng dared to lie? Hu Yue stammered and turned to Sun Jisheng with a fierce look, saying, "Sun Jisheng, what's going on? Didn't you say the suspect escaped last night? Explain this."

"I...I...the suspect did knock out me and Captain Yang and escape last night. I don't know what's going on. You can ask Captain Yang," Sun Jisheng said, not knowing how the suspect had reappeared in the cell.

"Jisheng is right. The suspect did knock us out and escape last night," Yang Wei said.

"Then how do you explain this? Why is the suspect still here? Did he hit his head and decide to come back?" Hu Yue shouted in frustration.

Hearing Hu Yue's words, Ye Qian, who was enjoying the royal treatment, frowned slightly. This sounded awkward, like he was being scolded.

"I...I...I don't know what's going on," Sun Jisheng said, confused. He couldn't help but mutter, "This is like seeing a ghost."

Li Hao didn't bother to pursue it further. The most important thing was that Ye Qian was safe. He opened the cell door, walked in, and couldn't help but laugh at Ye Qian's demeanor. "Second Brother, you really know how to enjoy yourself. At a time like this, you still seem completely unbothered."

Ye Qian waved his hand to stop the prisoners from massaging him and chuckled. "This just shows my mental fortitude, or maybe I'm just too silly, hehe."
