Chapter 5 - Reconnaissance

Despite Han Xue's gentle and quiet appearance, her temperament is as stubborn as Ye Qian's. Once she decides on something, it's hard to change her mind. Unable to persuade her otherwise, Ye Qian agreed to go back first and let her take care of his father. Moreover, his father's injury was no longer serious, so he felt at ease. The important thing now was to seek justice for his father and find the nouveau riche who beat him, giving his father a fair resolution.

Although he had many things to discuss with his father, there was no rush. After all, Ye Qian planned to stay for a long time now that he had returned to his country.

After bidding farewell to his father, Ye Qian left the hospital.

Having been away from home for eight years, the people he knew before were nowhere to be found. Finding a nouveau riche he had only met twice was indeed challenging. However, Ye Qian was no longer the impulsive young man he once was. Eight years of mercenary life had taught him much.

After taking a shower at home, Ye Qian used his memory to sketch a portrait of the nouveau riche. Satisfied that he hadn't missed any details, he put the portrait in his pocket.

When it comes to gathering information, the best sources are either the police or the local gangsters. Naturally, Ye Qian wouldn't go to the police, as they wouldn't provide any useful information. Therefore, he had to seek out the local gangsters. For a bit of money, they should be able to find out a person's whereabouts without much trouble.

Around ten o'clock at night, Ye Qian changed into casual clothes, hailed a taxi, and headed to a nearby bar. Bars are chaotic places, popular among gangsters, filled with various kinds of people. Finding someone to ask for information shouldn't be difficult.

The taxi soon stopped at a bar called "Dizzy." Ye Qian took a quick look; it wasn't very large but was doing good business, almost full inside. Deafening music roared as men and women danced wildly.

Ye Qian sat at the bar and ordered a beer. His gaze casually swept the room, noticing many young people with dyed hair and tattoos, reminding him of his younger days. He used to hang out in places like this all the time, drinking and fighting, causing his father much worry. Ye Qian always felt guilty about that. Looking back, he realized how reckless he had been.

The bartender was a young woman, about twenty-five, with a fair and beautiful face, and captivating, enchanting eyes. Her ample chest was eye-catching. Since Ye Qian arrived, she had been watching him. In her two to three years working at this bar, it was the first time she had seen such a manly man, especially his deep eyes, like the vast night sky, making her unable to resist.

"Hey, handsome, first time here? I haven't seen you before," the beautiful bartender said, leaning forward provocatively.

Ye Qian understood that while a bartender might not have a powerful background, she surely knew many people from various walks of life. If he wanted help, he might need her assistance. Besides, Ye Qian was no saint. Smiling slightly, he said, "Yes, I just returned from out of town today. This bar is quite popular, probably because of you. I've been to many bars but never seen a bartender as charming as you." He praised her, flashing a wicked smile.

Flattered, the bartender giggled, saying, "You really know how to flatter, don't you? This bar belongs to Brother Hu; no one dares cause trouble here, so business is good."

Ye Qian didn't know who Brother Hu was, but managing such a bar, he must be connected to the underworld. Smiling, Ye Qian said, "Miss, can I ask you for some information?"

"Sure, who are you looking for? I have many connections for information," she replied.

Ye Qian took out the sketch of the nouveau riche from his pocket and handed it to her, saying, "I'm looking for this person."

She glanced at the portrait and asked, "What's his name?"

"I don't know. I only know he arrived by plane yesterday and beat up an elderly street sweeper outside the airport. Can you find him?" Ye Qian asked.

After a moment of silence, she said, "No problem, but it might take some time. Leave your number, and I'll contact you when I have news."

"Alright!" Ye Qian agreed readily, writing down his phone number on a piece of paper.

"The standard fee is two thousand, but since this is a bit tricky, I'll charge you three thousand, half upfront. If we can't find him, the deposit is non-refundable," she explained. Although she wasn't a gangster, she was associated with Brother Hu, handling simple tasks for his men. Each time she got a commission, earning a ten percent cut, a nice side income. Even though she liked Ye Qian, she couldn't break the rules.

Ye Qian didn't haggle, promptly handing over two thousand yuan, saying, "The extra five hundred is for your drinks."

She accepted with a smile, saying, "Thanks, boss. Wait for my good news."

Ye Qian nodded, saying, "I'm off," and stood up to leave.

"Boss, my name is Little Dragon Girl!" she called out.

Ye Qian chuckled, glanced back at her, and said, "I'll remember that." He laughed and walked out. Little Dragon Girl, an ethereal existence; he couldn't see how she resembled her, except perhaps neither was a virgin.
