Chapter 1 - Prologue: New Mission

It was a night of fall as a young dark-skinned man was sleeping blissfully in his bed. Only for him to wake up from hearing his phone vibrating on the nightstand loudly, he lazily lifts his hand up and feels the cool wooden nightstand that's next to his bed. He runs his fingers through the nightstand, he feels his cold metal ashtray but ignores it then continues to run his fingers until he feels his phone. He grabs his phone and brings it over to his face, turning it on only to be flash banged by the bright light of his phone screen. He immediately closes his eyes and winces quietly so he doesn't wake up his siblings or parents.

His pale yellow eyes slowly open as his eyes get adjusted to the brightness, only to see that he got a message from his dad. He reads it in his head as he can just imagine his father's gentle, low voice speaking to him.

My precious son, Xar Euphoria. I assigned you a mission that will test your will to protect and your wits. You must go to Arcus Train Station at 4:15am, take the first train there ok? Wear something casual and remember to take the gloves off when you truly need them, my son. I wish the best for you, my little dragon. I love you.

Xar couldn't help but smile a little at the last part of the message, his father will always be a bleeding heart even if he doesn't want to be one. He slowly shifts himself up and gets out from his warm soft bed, he can already feel the chilly air in his room that's caused by the ceiling fan. He grabs the chain closest to him that is attached to the fan and pulls down on it twice, feeling the cool air slowly dissipate from the room as his once chilly body is slowly warming up. Then he grabs the other chain beside it as he pulls down on it once, his once darkened room illuminated from the ceiling fan while his eyes quickly get adjusted to the brightness.

"Weird that he didn't send me the specifics, he usually would." He mumbles to himself quietly that almost sounds like low rumbling while he puts his phone back on his nightstand and gets ready for the mission that will possibly change his view on life.

There he was, sitting on the bench while he waited for the train to get here. It was exactly 4 am since he usually woke up early in the morning to cook breakfast for his family. It felt weird to him to not be in the kitchen and making himself a cup of coffee, instead he was at a train station with a black duffel bag next to him that was full of clothes and items that he truly needed. He didn't bother to put on his shades that are currently hanging on his cream colored shirt, he felt a soft cool breeze that lightly blew against his unzipped black track jacket that has purple accents along his zipper and collar.

He takes his phone out of his pants pocket and turns it on to check the time, 4:13, he smiles a little as he can hear the strong howling of the train going past the wind. He gets up from the bench and grabs the straps of his duffel bag, swinging it up on his right shoulder as he can already feel the heavy weight of it but he 's used to it. He watches as the train keeps going to the right of him till it stops with all the doors opening at every side of him.

He immediately sweeps his maroon hair back so it doesn't get in his eyes if any creature wants to attack him as a surprise. He was at least happy that his twin suggested for him to get an undercut, it did look good on him. He looks down at his lock screen, seeing the precious smiles of all his little siblings and his parents that he will protect with his very soul if he needs to.

"I'm sorry that I couldn't make you guys your pancakes, I will make sure to double the amount when I get back… I promise." His low, rough voice gets a little shaky from his emotions but he keeps his composure and walks through the door in front of him. He doesn't know how long he will be gone from his family, he doesn't know if this will be in a different world or dimension, but he will go back to them no matter what. He made that vow the moment his dad adopted him. He walks through the empty bullet train, knowing that he is the only passenger but why does he feel—

We thirst for the seven Wailings,

We bear the Koan of Jericho.

Xar opens his eyes a little but he was still in a dazed after passing out like that, he can feel his back against the soft cushioned train seat but across of him was a woman that was bleeding out from her chest. He wanted to get up immediately and check on her but he can't move his body, his mind is racing with a million thoughts. He hated feeling powerless, he wants to help her but his eyes are barely working, he can't feel his magic almost like it paused itself. The only thing he can do is just feel weak and pathetic while watching the woman smile at him, the only thing he notices is her smile and the white uniform that is stained with her blood.

"It was all of my fault…" She said almost in a whisper but he can still hear her clearly over the train passing through what sounds like endless waves. Even though he can hear the sorrow and pain in her voice, her smile was still soft and loving?

"My decisions, and everything they caused.." She whispers to him as he can see how she sluggishly gets up from her seat, walking over to him even though he wanted her to sit. He hated this feeling in his heart, a stirring of worthless in his soul. Yet he can feel her gentle, warm hands slowly caressing his jaw. Which only made him want to help her more.

'Get up! Come on you damn body! GET UP ALREADY PLEASE!' He screams in his head, he wants to move, he wants to heal her. Yet it almost like he shouldn't, it's like a mysterious force is keeping his body seated. He hates it. Then two flashes of memories appeared into his mind, a wolf woman with white hair wearing a black dress was holding a gun while the other is a white tablet that has three bullet holes through it. He doesn't understand it… Why doesn't he understand this?!

"It had to come to this for me to finally realize that you were right all along." She whispers to him while she raises his head so he can look at her in the eyes but even her face is blurry. Almost like the rising sun is blocking his eyes to not see her. What does she mean he's right? He doesn't understand this at all! He doesn't know her yet his heart is twisting and turning. He can feel how his chest burns, almost like his soul is burning from within.

"So forgive me for being bold, but I must ask for your help. Xar Sensei." She continues to whisper to him while Xar just looks up at her with pure confusion. Why did she call him "Sensei"?! He needs to know what's going on! the mysterious girl in front of him, the two memories that popped up in his head, he's a sensei?????

"You'll forget these words, but it won't matter. Even without your memories, you'll probably make the same decision in the same situation…" She whispers to him while he can feel how her life is slowly fleeting from her. Why can't he help her?! Why can't he get up?! WHY?!

"Therefore, I believe what matters most are the choices we make, not the experiences we have. There are only choices you can make…." She paused as even though Xar can't see her eyes, he can see how her lips tremble with sorrow. The once gentle, warm hand on his cheek slowly becoming cold. Tears slowly rolls down his cheek, he won't be able to save her.. Why.

"I've spoken of responsibility before. I didn't truly understand it then, but now I do. Adulthood, responsibility, obligation…. And the choices you make that extend beyond those ideals. I even understand their implications…" She whispers to him as he can feel her eyes down on him. Eyes that are leaking with sorrow, pain, and love as he can feel her blood dripping down on his black boots. He just wants to heal her…. Why can't he heal her..

"... Therefore, Sensei… You're the only one I can trust. Only you can save us from this twisted, distorted fate… and find the choices that will lead us to a new reality. So, Sensei. Please…" Those were her final words as she leans down and kisses his forehead with her soft lips. Xar couldn't help but just loathe himself, feeling weak, pathetic, worthless. He saved countless lives before but why not hers…. Why not now..
