Chapter 65 - Trust

"The more you refuse to bear my child, the more determined I become."

Qin Yuheng's icy words cut through the air like a blade, leaving Shen Ning's heart frozen in place.

Before she could react, he grabbed her and threw her onto the bed, pinning her down with a terrifying intensity. His grip was tightening, his voice dripping with venom as he leaned close.

"You just had to say, 'Ah Yu, please trust me,' and I would have believed you," he murmured, his voice was dangerously low. "But instead, you admitted it so easily. Why? Are you tired of pretending to love me? Tired of playing the doting wife?"

His lips crashed onto hers, biting her lower lip with brutal force. The metallic taste in their mouths was a stark reminder of the bitterness between them.

Tears streamed down Shen Ning's face as she struggled against his unyielding grip. "Why are you so sure that I betrayed you?" she choked out, her voice trembling.

"Why?" He let out a bitter laugh, his bloodshot eyes boring into hers."These past few weeks, you have been having lunch with him. Picking up his call in the late night that too when we were..." He smirked, his voice was devoid of warmth. "Three days after reaching Hong Kong, I called you, remember? While we were talking, you were panting. Then…" His voice cracked slightly, but his expression remained cold. "…I heard his voice. At night, when your husband was not at home, a man— your ex-lover, no doubt— was with you. Coaxing you— just like I do in bed…"

The bitter laugh that escaped his lips wasn't his own; it belonged to a man consumed by agony. "That homewrecker finally destroyed us, didn't he?"

Slap!

Shen Ning's trembling hand hung mid-air, the sharp sound of the slap reverberating through the room. Her palm stung, but the ache in her chest was far worse. Tears streamed down her face as she stared at Qin Yuheng, his cheek marked by the sharp imprint of her fingers.

"Enough!" she screamed, her emotions pouring out.

"You think I don't know you've had someone following me, reporting back to you? I knew, Qin Yuheng! I knew every single time! But did I ever complain? Did I ever raise my voice against it? No! Because I thought maybe, just maybe, one day your insecurities would go away! That you would trust me. That you would trust us!"

His expression was stoic, his pain hidden behind a wall of cold indifference. Jealousy clouding his reason to think rationally.

"Heh." He sneered, his voice was distant. "Do you realize something? Ever since that man came into our lives, we've been like fire and ice, sweet and sour."

Without waiting for her response, he turned and strode toward the door.

"Yeah. Just go away!" she shouted, her voice cracking. "I don't want to see your face! A man who claims to love his wife but doesn't even trust her—I don't want you near me!"

He paused at her words but didn't look back. The door slammed shut behind him, the sound reverberating through the room like a final verdict.

In that moment, both of them, felt the same agonizing pain.

Their love, once pure and unshakable, now teetered on the brink of despair, hanging by a fragile thread on the verge of destruction.

Her knees buckled, and she sank to the floor, her sobs echoing in the empty room. "Was our love so weak that you couldn't trust me?" she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Coming out of the house, he stormed into the garage, his mind clouded with rage and despair. He slid into his car, gripping the steering wheel so tightly his knuckles turned white. As he sped through the empty streets, her voice haunted him.

"I never stopped loving him!"

"I was forced to be with you!"

The words played on a loop in his mind, each repetition a dagger to his heart. His foot slammed on the brakes, the car screeching to a halt in the middle of the road.

"Argh!" he roared, slamming his fist into the steering wheel. The horn blared in response, but it did nothing to drown the storm of emotions raging inside him.

"Just two months ago, we both were so happy." He muttered to himself, "But how come all those now feels like an illusion."

He arrived at his company, his steps heavy as he made his way to his private lounge. The quiet of the room was suffocating, a stark contrast to the chaos in his heart.

His gaze landed on the bed. Memories surged forward—the day she had napped there with him, her playful mischief as she drew a panda on his face.

'I never stopped loving him!'

The warmth of those moments now felt like a cruel joke, a dream that had turned into a nightmare.

Back at home, Shen Ning clutched his pillow, her tears soaking the pillow where his scent still lingered.

Miles apart, consumed by pain, their hearts crying out the same plea:

"How did we let it come to this?"

The next day Shen Ning didn't come downstairs for breakfast. She didn't go to her college as well. Her head was aching terribly.

A soft knock interrupted her thoughts.

"Young Madam, are you fine? Shall I bring your food to the room?" Aunt Rong's voice was filled with concern.

"No, Aunt Rong, I'm fine. I'll eat later," Shen Ning replied, her voice hoarse.

"But—"

"Aunt Rong, please. I just want to sleep right now."

Aunt Rong hesitated but eventually sighed. "Alright."

Days passed, Shen Ning refused to eat properly, her appetite vanishing as her heart ached with an unbearable heaviness. Whenever Aunt Rong came to check on her, she was met with the same response: "I'll eat later. I just need some rest."
