Chapter 21 - Clara (6)

Hearing the situation of his family, and while being astonished at the situation, Ellis still felt like something was wrong, but he didn't know where to put his finger on it. Shaking his head, he started to read his sister's abilities.

[Innate Talent: Calculative Mind]

Data Amplification: By identifying key data points and subtle variables, the user can amplify seemingly minor effects into significant outcomes.

Memory-Boost: The user's enhanced memory functions as an interconnected network, enabling rapid recall and integration of vast amounts of information.

"Wow, doesn't they seem very strong?" It was really one surprise after another. His sister's Innate talent and skill felt even better than his starting ones.

"Don't get deceived by their description; actually, they are not that powerful, or maybe in the future could really be, but not now."

"The talent will give a headache as I make it passive; maybe in normal situations, there will be no problem, but while fighting, with a lot of information, I can use it just for a short time, and then it will become increasingly harder to suppress my headache. As for Predictive Calculations, I tried it once, and felt like dying and turned it off immediately."

"For the innate skill, it takes a lot of mana; the Lie Detection and Enhanced Eye-Sight is still manageable, but the other two according to the situation could take a lot of mana. Now that I've leveled up the skill and have more mana, it becomes a little easier, but it still has a long way to go."

"But they are still strong; now you are not able to use them efficiently, but in the future, it's not necessary so. Especially if you get some skill to raise your mental strength." While saying so, Ellis couldn't help but feel his sister's innate talent held a lot of potential. If she was strong enough, she could probably predict the future. And thinking of her other skills, how one seemed close-range and one middle or long-range, they seemed pretty balanced out.

Looking at his mother and being a little curious, "What about you mother? What's your current level?"

"Twenty-one."

Hearing his mother's soft reply and not knowing how she reached this high level, Ellis asked back immediately: "Huh, it's pretty high. How did you raise your level exactly?"

Clara hearing the question interrupted and said: "When the awakening first happened because the situation seemed pretty dangerous and to not let mother be defenseless I talked with father then gave mother a gun and helped her hunt zombies."

"There was even a low-rank dungeon where I took her with me but because guns became less effective in dungeons and monsters bleed a lot more when you kill them than zombies mother didn't want to enter another one again."

Hearing his sister's reply and contemplating a little Ellis didn't know what to say. But tried to console his mother anyway. "That's okay too; you don't need to become strong. Like all the family are entering the Gates anyway."

Seeing how his mother's head dropped even more after what he said and feeling like he made the situation worse as it got even more awkward Ellis tried to think hard but not coming up with a solution he decided to go in another direction.

"Mother, you won't show me your status window?"

Seeing how she was startled by the sudden direct question and after looking at his eyes briefly with her cheeks being dyed red she said in low voice: "Later."

Finally getting the response he wanted and feeling like this is the normal situation he went back to his plate continuing to eat but even after he finished everything at the table he still didn't feel full. Wondering if it was because his body got stronger so he needed more nutrients or because of his Absorption skill he decided to check later.

"What about you Ellis? Seeing how you came here alone you should be pretty strong so what is your level and what happened exactly in your city?"

While at first she didn't want to ask fearing that something bad had happened to him there or someone ostracized him, Clara still felt curious and at the same time if something bad happened there to him or someone ostracized him she could do something for him.

"My level is similar to yours and nothing happened there; I just hunted zombies there so I still haven't entered a gate, tomorrow let's enter one together." When questioned about what had happened to him Ellis tried to gloss over the subject and shifted to another topic.

And maybe noticing that he didn't want to discuss the topic further, Clara upon hearing the mentions of gates replied immediately: "It's fine for me, we can go anytime."

Looking at his mother as she was taking the empty plates from the table, Ellis leaned in to his sister and whispered: "Why is mother staying silent about her status?"

"Actually even I don't know. She didn't tell anybody even father about her status let alone show them; I was actually surprised a little that she decided to show her status to you."

Hearing an unexpected answer and how she murmured soon after. "But maybe it's natural because it's you," Ellis finally decided not think about this thing anymore. She would show him her status later anyway.
