Chapter 9 - [Requirements Have Been Met]

"Throughout a thousand voyages, a single will fights for eternity."

Time slowed around Dyreus as the world came to a halt.

Dyreus carefully lifted his darkened eyes as he could see something appear before him. While his eyes were directed at the beast, his focus was on something entirely different.

Words of an unknown language were hovering in front of his eyes.

He had never seen words like them before, even in the books he read. But for some reason, he could understand them.

[Host is unworthy]

Dyreus looked at the last line of text with great pain. He believed that something was finally here to help.

But it seemed like he was all alone.

He wanted the power to fight back. He wanted to kill this beast before him. He wanted to see what the world had to offer him!

"Bullshit!"

Dyreus recalled what the voice had said to him.

A single will to fight for eternity.

Dyreus was young, he had much to learn, but during this fight and the despair he felt, he only had one will to give.

'To those who wish to cause me harm. I will never stop fighting for as long as I live'

[Your testament has been heard]

[You have been given a tutorial quest]

[Quest: Defeat the Mutated Shadow Wolf(Rank A)]

[A boy born outside the weaves of fate has encountered a wolf born from the shadows. It has been molded by an unknown power, greatly increasing its physical attributes and affinity. As one born from death, you fall to its will. As one born from rulers, you remain subservient to its will. As one born of fighters, you remained defeated by its will. To correct your path, you must show the world your birthright.]

[Reward: ****]

[Do you accept]

[Yes] [No]

Dyreus read the final line as the world around him started to resume. He knew he didn't have much time to make a decision...

But he also wondered why it even gave him a choice.

"I accept"

The moment he said those words, Dyreus felt his body start to get warm as an unknown power coursed through his body. He could feel a sense of rejuvenation as if he was blessed by the heavens above.

All the parts the shadow wolf had torn off regrew at a tremendous speed.

[Due to the immense strain of emotion the host has undergone, you have gained: Wrath(F Rank)]

[Wrath(F Rank): Wrath is an emotion and a powerful fuel. The more it consumes you, the more you gain; increasing your physical attributes and recovery speed]

Dyreus eyed the Shadow Wolf with extreme anger. Only one thing crossed his mind.

"My turn."

With time returning to normal, Dyreus moved his newly made arm and grabbed the shadow wolf's hand, interlocking his fingers with the beast. He squished tightly and threw the Shadow Wolf to the side.

The Shadow wolf howled as it crashed into tree after tree before the sounds of the trees falling came to a halt.

Dyreus stood up and clenched his hands a few times, sighing in that he was okay, but directing all his anger onto the Shadow Wolf.

He had almost died and the torment he had gone through was something he wished on nobody.

But what he felt, he would gladly return.

Feeling his new strength he shot in the direction he threw the wolf.

With each step he took, he could feel how light he was. It was as if there was no resistance from anything, and that the world was his playground.

Dyreus arrived in front of the shadow wolf and by using the momentum he gained, threw a punch towards the wolf.

As his attack was about to land, his fist phased right through the wolf, destroying the tree behind with a great sound.

With a surprised face on how much strength he now had, he quickly stepped back only to see the wolf fade with the shadows.

"Seeing its name as Shadow Wolf from the quest, it is easy to assume what type of affinity it has. But isn't this a little too much?"

Dyreus quickly felt something behind him and rolled to the side.

"Damn! If I had been any slower I would be dead." Dyreus said as he watched the wolf pass him with a lunge attack.

Seeing the wolf's aggression, it appeared not to be playing around anymore.

As Dyreus locked eyes with the wolf, unbeknownst to him, a small white flame started to dance in the middle of his pupil.

"It seems like as long as he's in the shadows he can phase attacks, or use them to transverse to a different one."

Dyreus quickly thought of a plan.

"I'll need to make it so he has no shadow to utilize, and there must be a range of how far he can travel between shadows."

Remembering what the wolf had done to him, he let the wrath fill his soul, gaining all the strength he could, but also keeping what little sanity he had left.

With no hesitation, he quickly shot forward once more.

Appearing before the wolf with a fist ready to shoot forward, the wolf quickly faded into the shadows. But Dyreus wanted this to happen.

By letting the wrath consume him more, he could not only feel his own but also that of others.

Dyreus quickly felt the wolf's wrath from the side and hard planted his foot to change direction, and by using his other fist, landed a punch on the wolf's stomach mid-leap.

The wolf shot back and crashed into more trees.

Dyreus quickly took this opportunity to appear in front of the wolf and land another decisive blow to its face. The wolf quickly dodged his next attack and faded into the ground.

The moment this happened, Dyreus took flight to his feet, quickly destroying the trees in the surrounding area.

By using trees to keep the wolf close, and destroying them one after another, he was able to make an open area with no shadows.

Knowing the wolf wouldn't let him get another chance of a sneak attack like earlier, Dyreus decided it was time to take the hit.

After the last tree was destroyed the wolf went in for a vicious kill as Dyreus stood there, unprepared for the attack.

The wolf used his opportunity, to close in and bite down across Dyreus neck...

Only to be left in confusion.

The wolf had eaten Dyreus's limbs many times and wondered why it wasn't able to fully clamp down.

Dyreus stood there smiling, remembering how the more wrath that filled him, the higher his physical attributes. He was banking that it increased his body enough to withstand the wolf's biting force.

Dyreus quickly delivered an elbow strike to the wolf's chest. The wolf released its bite, only to be met with a shoulder as it carried him across the grass and into an open area.

As Dyreus was going around and destroying the trees, he was also trying to figure out how far the wolf could travel between the shadows and how often he could do it.

Once he figured out those requirements, he quickly put his plan into action.

Once he was in the middle of the open, Dyreus planted the wolf into the ground.

"Eat this!"

Dyreus quickly landed multiple punches to the wolf's face

The view was quite intrinsic, the dark moonlight garnished the open area he created, as the only thing that could be heard was Dyreus's fist repeatedly punching the wolf's head. The various amount of destroyed trees felt like dead soldiers as the two were fighting for the last victor.

Dyreus released all his wrath onto the Wolf. Each attack contained all the wrath he gained from it.

Dyreus could feel the struggle from the beast as it tried to break free, only to be met with another fist.

Punch after punch resonated through the forest. Dyreus could hear the wolf whimpering but didn't stop.

Once a few more moments passed, all Dyreus could hear was the sound of his fist hitting the ground, clearing his vision from the Wrath, as he saw the wolf was long dead.

Its head was completely destroyed.

With heavy breathing Dyreus tried to relax his mind, clearing away the wrath.

In front of him stood the messages once more.

[You have slain: Mutated Shadow Wolf (A Rank)]

Dyreus smiled at the message he received. With the Wrath fading away, he could feel his strength leave him.

"It seems like I overdid it."

He knew this kind of strength was not free. To have his mind clouded by Wrath for that long was bound to have recompressions.

As Dyrues fell to his back, he could hear sounds in the distance.

"Dyreus!"

"Aurora you must tread carefully, come back here!"

"Hurry I see him!"

"Grr, you two, check the surrounding areas, I'll check the boy." The head captain said to the two soldiers he brought with him.

"Yes, sir!" As they both pathed off.

Dyreus's eyes started to get heavy as the fatigue washed over him.

Before his eyes fully shut, he could see the last few messages he got.
