Chapter 15 - Wolf hunt

Arriving at the first of three locations where packs of wolves were spotted, he equipped himself with his new Mossberg Maverick 88 12-gauge shotgun and loaded 8 buckshot gauge rounds into it, plus one in the chamber.

"Damn it! As soon as I enter the forest, I can feel the creatures' bloodlust. Well, I know they're observing me. These wolves are going to be harder to take care of; they are smarter than the last ones I took out."

Suddenly, he heard some bushes start to rustle on his left side. Turning around, a wolf pounced directly at him.

[Successful Saving throw]

Bang!

Thankfully, he made a successful evasion, avoiding the attack, and armed himself with his shotgun, shooting at the wolf at its center of mass, sending the wolf back right where it jumped from. Reloading the shotgun and loading another shell into it, he prepared himself for their next trick.

"Okay, these wolves are better than the last ones I killed. Gotta keep my senses sharp!"

Using Detect, he spotted three wolves charging at him from the front and five charging at his back.

"Well, well, well! They're using a pincer maneuver on me. Too bad they don't know that a shotgun is best used as a short-range weapon."

A shotgun has the ability to end fights quickly, and in essence, it can fire 8 or 9 times with a single trigger press while pumping it, negating its capacity issue. Its only weakness is its limited range.

Aiming towards the three that were coming in front of him, since they were the ones in range.

Bang!... Bang! Bang! Bang!

He fired the first shoot, and he still held down the trigger of the shotgun and kept pulling the pump back and forth. Firing four shots, taking the three that charged on his front taking, them down.

Quickly turning around as swiftly as he could, he barely unloaded four shots taking out only three but one avoided the shots.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

In retrospect, Eli shouldn't have blinked. Still, things wouldn't have changed, but at least he could have seen what was coming. Thrown to the ground he dropped his shotgun and the first thing the he felt was pain. Immense, horrendous, stabbing pain in his leg. Looking down, he spotted the wolf biting his leg tearing through his flesh and he knew that his leg was broken. With a loud scream, he unloaded his TAURUS 44 magnum on its skull.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

After quickly consuming a Lesser Health potion, he reloaded his shotgun and used Detect for over a minute to locate his enemies. With Appraisal, he determined that there were 7 F+Rank wolves, 8 E Rank wolves, 1 D-Rank alpha, and 1 D+Rank Alpha Gray Wolf.

Realizing the situation, he decided to change his plans. He then requested to purchase a 'LEVER ACTION MARLIN MODEL 1895 COWBOY,' Caliber: .45-70 GOVT. Capacity: 10 ROUNDS, 66 cm BARREL for 1000 MSP, and 200 rounds of .45-70 GOVT. After obtaining the ammunition, he loaded the Lever Action .45-70 and used his Snipe skill for the first time. His Passive Accuracy Skill helped him target the enemies, showing him different hit percentages for each.

[Alpha Gray Wolf Failed Saving throw]

[Successful Critical Hit]

He took a shot at the D+Rank Alpha Gray Wolf, hitting it with a critical blow and a spray of blood. The leader of the pack fell, causing panic among the wolves. But the D-Rank Alpha took charge, and the wolves charged toward Eli in revenge, but this was their last mistake.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!... Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

With enough distance between them, Eli was able to use his Snipe skill to take multiple potshots. He then switched to his 12-gauge shotgun as the wolves closed in, eliminating the rest of the pack.

Eli repeatedly used Detect to ensure no enemies were left. Instead, he found dozens of herbs and bugs for medicinal use with Appraisal. He drained the beasts' blood for potions, as higher-level potions couldn't use regular water. After dismantling the bodies and storing everything in his leather satchel, he acquired 11 E Rank Mana Stones, 1 D-Rank Mana Stone, and 1 D+ Rank Mana Stone from their corpses.

Eli then collected all the medicinal fauna and bugs he found. Before riding Rusty to other locations, he fed him the medicinal herbs and bugs to strengthen his health, strength, and stamina.

"I know, I know! They don't taste good, buddy. But you'll become stronger if you eat them all. Plus, I'll give you a bucket of apples as a reward when we get back home."

After a few bites, Rusty refused to eat more. But after being bribed with a bucket of apples, he devoured them all. He neighed and bumped his head on Eli's shoulder, reminding him to keep his promise.

'This horse is such a child, easy to bribe. Well, that's why I love this boy,' Eli thought.

"Don't worry, bud. I'll keep my end of the bargain. For finishing them all without any issues, you'll get two buckets of apples."

Rusty neighed and jumped in happiness at the promise of more apples.

A few hours later, Eli finished clearing both areas of Wolfpacks. Unfortunately, he only encountered 34 F Rank wolves, 17 E Rank, and 2 D- Rank wolves. No D+ Ranks were in sight. After dismantling the corpses and storing everything, he ended up with 17 E Rank Mana Stones and 2 D- Rank Mana Stones.

[Quest: Wolf menace of Carthage] [Complete]

[Reward: Super rare Gold-tier item Dwarven Boozehound's Backpack]

Dwarven Boozehound's Backpack:

This large, silver tank is nearly 3 feet tall and produces its own magical ale. It has several knobs alongside it and a tapered hose attached to the bottom. The tank holds 8 gallons of ale and completely refilled daily at dawn. When you attune to the tank for the first time, it immediately fills with the magical ale. The tank is supported with several leather straps, allowing it to be easily carried. Regardless of how much ale is inside the tank, it always weighs 10 pounds. You can dispense the magical ale as you would a normal keg, with the exception that this alcohol affects a creature twice as much as normal due to its magical nature. Alternatively, you can spend 10 minutes focusing on the tank and adjusting its various knobs to produce up to 4 special elixirs, expending 1 gallon of ale for each elixir you make.

[Host has received a new Quest!]

[Quest: Safe The Hero Party]

"This better not be that Arthur guy. If he is, I'm going to shoot him myself."

Opening the map, Eli saw that the quest marker had been added to the map. Their location wasn't too far from his. Riding Rusty, he made it there in less than 20 minutes. Arriving near a cave, he got off of Rusty. Inspecting the area, he spotted the remnants of a camp: a dirtied area, a tattered tent sprung haphazardly about, and empty bottles of alcohol scattered around the ground.

After a few minutes passed of him searching, he heard multiple screams coming from the cave. Stumbling to the entrance, his mind reeled at what was going on. Inspecting the cave, Eli was rewarded with a figure emerging. He soon saw it was the hero Arthur running out of the cave with the priestess right behind him in a panic.

Eli forcefully stopped him before he injured himself in his panicked state.

"Arthur, where's the rest of your party?"

Eli asked.

But Arthur just shoved Eli to the side and screamed out, trying to catch his breath.

"Who gives a damn about those Bitches! My life's more important than theirs! I need to get out of here!"

He then ran towards Rusty, trying to climb on top of him to ride him. In reaction, Rusty bit his hand as a warning to stay away. This caused the hero to snap and swing his sword at Rusty, hitting him on the side of his neck and knocking Rusty down as he bled out, causing all hell to break loose.

"There are many wonderful places in the world, but one of my favorite places is on the back of my horse!"

Eli spoke, grinding his teeth with a snarl, and an ache in his heart as he stepped near the accoster, gipping his shotgun.

"And you! FUCKING DARED TOUCH MY HORSE!"

He aimed his shotgun at Arthur, leaving him questioning what he was going to do against it?

But in a miracle, Arthur recovered his wits and whipped his sword in a vertical cutting motion. A bright blue beam careened toward Eli, a high-powered energy slash capable of him in two, that is if it connected.

"Quickstep"

Seconds later Eli was at Arthur's side and fired off a shot.

Bang!

Carrie watched with a sickening feeling in her gut as the Dark Elf Eli used one of his artifacts on her Arthur. Having experienced what happened last time, she cast a protection barrier on her hero. The buckshot smashes into the barrier, leaving a sizzling mark on it. Leaving the hero stupefied, and Eli turning his gaze toward her.

"Now, now, there was no need for that, miss~."

Eli said amiably, as though talking to a guest in his own house.

"I was going to spare you. There was no need to hasten your own demise. But you just threw that idea down the drain with that spell~."

It was the utter conviction in Eli's voice that sent a chill up her spine.

"Enjoy the scenery. Look at the trees. The rocks. The sky. Enjoy these sights, for I assure you, they will be your last."

"Backstab!"

He then disappeared from her sight, appearing behind her back.

"Assassination!"

Bang!

[Priestess Carrie Failed Saving throw]

[Successful Critical Hit]

In the next moment, the priestess had exploded like a balloon, her body falling like a marionette with its strings cut, and in her place, stood Eli with blonde having traces of the Priestess's brain matter.
