Chapter 11 - CHAPTER ELEVEN: THE ELEVENTH HOUR

Later in the night, I arrived at Clarise's office to try and find out what she had and what exactly she could present. She then gave me a file that contained detailed information on pharmaceuticals and how the drugs presented there are illegal and have been discontinued for many years. She then tells me that Mr Jones isn't the person to deal with these kinds of things. He hates crime because he grew up in a very tough neighbourhood, where crime was very common and rampant. His father used to be a drug dealer and would sometimes steal from banks to feed him and his family which consisted of his brother, that followed his father's footsteps and his mother.

Jones also had to work his hardest to not only get out of the rough neighbourhood but also to help his mother who was sick and really. He eventually did and left that life behind. He even got her mother the necessary treatment and she regained her health. So Clarise's surprise it's weird and damning that he would resort to such actions.

"No Jack wouldn't do this to me," Clarise protested vehemently, A good man.

"Calm down Mrs Jones, we are still not sure if he is fully involved," I stated.

"You're a detective, right? I want you to find out what is going on.

"I'm on the case Mrs jones," I stated

Suddenly I got a call from Jackson who was waiting for me outside the hospital, warning me that a group of suspicious men were coming to me. He already got one of the men who seemed to be their gateway driver and with some physical convincing, he managed to retrieve information out of him. I started to realize that the time of her death had arrived earlier than expected. The men were part of the unknowns and were coming to kill Clarise due to her snooping around. I then move Clarise out of her office immediately.

"Pack up your things, we have to go," I stated urgently.

"What's going on," she said with concern.

"The unknowns are here to kill you," I stated directly.

"What! Let me call Jack and see if he's okay," she said, her expression worried.

"Nope, we have no time," I said vehemently while I took her phone.

I then held her hand took out my gun and marched forward while pointing my pistol tentatively in front of me. We continued with haste to the stairs where we found one of the assailants. I quickly fired before he could take out his gun and fell to the ground. Clarise screams which alarm the other two assailants and the hospital staff. We decided to abandon the flight of stairs and went to the elevator. As soon as we entered the elevator the other assailants arrived.

They pursued us like a charging bull that saw the colour red and one of the assailants wanted to shoot at Clarise as I forced the elevator door to close. Luckily enough nothing happened and the assailant didn't shoot and they decided to take the stairs. The elevator arrived at the parking lot where Jackson picked us up and we left in a hurry. The assailants arrived just in the nick of time and started to open fire. The good thing was that no one was shot.

We arrived at the safe house, where we met the others, including Clarise's sister, who immediately rushed to her. Worried, Clarise started to ask questions about Jack, and that is when Joe broke the bad news to her.

"Are you okay rise, my little sister, I was worried about you," she stated.

"I. I'm okay sis, I'm okay, just shaken up a little that's all," Clarise answered whipping.

"Wait, what about Jack? Is he okay? I want to know if Jack is okay." Please tell me if he's okay.

"Why don't you get a rest first? Then we can find out about Jack later, okay?" Lisa stated warmly.

"No! I want to know what happened to Jack," she demanded

"I'm so sorry to say this Mrs Jones, but we couldn't get Jack in time. When we arrived, he was already taken by the unknowns," Joe stated.

This shocking news terrified her so much, she fainted. She was then carried by Jackson to the bedroom to rest. We then started to look for possible locations of finding Jack Jones while I took out the evidence, I risked my life to have. Layla looked at the file and noticed the drugs mentioned were the ones she saw in her past. The case became personal to her as she realised this could get her closer to seeing her daughter. I then show the rest that the files now prove that there was a connection and that this connection can help in finding Alphonse's Daughter Ruth. This made the case much easier as now we were close to getting to the truth of the matter.

The next day, I got a call from Akili that he may have a new lead on the Ruth case. It had something to do with trafficking and it may involve not only Ruth but other women who have gone through the same issues. I decide to go with Jackson to be safe in case anything bad happens. Ken then wanted to join and I stopped him again and told him to find answers on the Mr Cruz's wife's ruby necklace case that I got early in the morning, after I talked to Mr Cruz.

Ken felt disappointed but I had to make sure he was safe from harm as he is my one and only family left. When we arrived at Akili's place, which was a very hidden restaurant, a young boy came with an envelope and a small note stating, "Here is what I could gather, so don't bother me again and F*ck off." I didn't like his tone of language but I had to swallow my pride and see whether his information was true. Just then Jack warns me that we were followed and tailed by very suspicious men and one of them had a scar across his face. He was sitting three tables behind us, glaring and stocking like a lion hunting for his prey.
