Chereads / Apocalypse - I, the Strongest Villain! / Chapter 40 - Stealing Car

Chapter 40 - Stealing Car

"I don't know. They come every few days. They were supposed to come yesterday..."

The boy's voice grew weaker,

And his tone became shaky.

"I... I feel terrible. My head is spinning..."

The boy's condition suddenly seemed off.

Stel peered in and realized something was wrong!

This child had been in this small hole for too long, with limited food, suffering from malnutrition.

The cold, damp environment had likely given him a fever.

Stel turned and looked toward the zombies, finding a gap among them that could be used to escape.

"Kid, come out of the hole now. I'll take you away from here."

Stel reached out his hand to the boy.

"Okay..."

The boy looked at Stel gratefully.

Dragging his heavy body, he wobbled out of the hole.

However...

"...!"

As the boy crawled to within a few meters of Stel,

Some sunlight fell on his face.

Only then did Stel see the boy's appearance clearly.

One of his eyes had turned red!

"Damn, it's not a cold, he's turning into a zombie!"

Stel quickly withdrew his hand.

No wonder the boy had suddenly acted so strangely; he was turning into a zombie.

His emotions were becoming uncontrollable.

"You damn liar! You said you'd save me! Get me out of here now!"

The boy's demeanor grew increasingly agitated,

The redness in his eye intensifying.

"Where are the couple who helped you now?"

"How the hell should I know? Just get me out of here! I feel awful!"

"I can't take you..."

Stel said coldly.

"Can't take me... you just promised me."

"You promised to save me," the boy's voice turned from anger to desperation.

"Please... don't leave me here."

Stel sighed, realizing that saving the boy was not an option anymore.

"You're turning into a zombie. If I take you, you'll attack me."

The boy's expression twisted with rage and despair.

"But... I don't want to die!"

Stel felt a pang of sorrow but knew he couldn't afford to be sentimental.

"I'm sorry, kid. This is the best I can do."

With a final, regretful glance, Stel backed away, leaving the boy to his fate.

"Yes, if you were still human, I would take you away."

"But you're turning into a zombie. The fact that I'm not killing you is already merciful."

A zombie?

I'm a zombie?

With Stel's reminder, the boy began to realize the changes in his body.

His head was gradually shrinking,

Leaving only the cerebellum.

To control the movements of his body.

The rest of his brain was melting, turning into a pool of blood.

"No, I can't turn into a zombie... I can't become a zombie!"

The boy was desperate, crawling forward,

But his limbs seemed to disobey him.

Starting to twitch slightly.

As the boy got closer, Stel finally saw the cause of his transformation.

There was a faint bite mark on the boy's ankle.

A shallow wound exposing some flesh.

That must have been where the zombie bit him.

"I don't want to bother killing you. Just stay put..."

Stel said, intending to turn and leave.

But then...

As he turned, he suddenly saw a rather intriguing sight.

About twenty meters away,

A pair of zombies were walking towards him.

If they were ordinary zombies, Stel wouldn't have paid much attention.

But these two zombies were very different from the others.

"What's going on?"

Stel watched as the pair of zombies approached.

They showed no hostility towards him.

The two zombies were dressed very plainly.

But they were carrying a lot of snacks,

Strung together in a long chain,

Hanging over their shoulders.

"Do we have street vendors among zombies now?"

Stel mocked them.

He stepped aside, curious to see what these zombies were up to.

The zombies were an elderly couple.

As far as Stel knew,

Zombies didn't usually move in groups.

They typically acted alone.

But these two zombies had similar walking patterns and movements.

Stel deduced that they were likely a married couple before they turned into zombies.

Wait!

A married couple?

He suddenly remembered what the boy had told him.

There was an old couple who had been supplying him with provisions.

That's how he managed to survive in the cave for half a month.

Now that he thought about it, weren't these zombies the couple the boy mentioned?

And they were carrying snacks, which fit perfectly.

What were they trying to do?

Stel became curious about this zombie couple.

So he stepped aside to observe their actions.

Then...

"Hissss..."

The zombie couple walked to the entrance of the boy's hole.

They growled softly.

Then they placed all the snacks they were carrying down,

And turned to leave.

What was happening?!

Stel was genuinely stunned by this unexpected scene.

There were actually zombies like this?

Weren't zombies supposed to lose all sense of autonomy once they turned?

How could these two still carry out such actions?

Stel was puzzled.

Meanwhile, the boy inside the hole had fully turned into a zombie.

His body was convulsing.

Even though the couple had brought snacks, he had no interest in them.

There was only one thought in his mind.

Human flesh!

Fresh human flesh!

Stel decided to follow the zombie couple.

He wanted to see what they were up to.

The couple, having delivered the snacks, turned and slowly walked away.

They didn't notice Stel.

They just kept walking.

The other zombies, with no target in sight, stood still.

But this couple,

After dropping off the snacks, turned and left.

It was as if they were being controlled.

Stel could only surmise that the couple's pre-zombie wish was so strong,

That it had become a reflex action.

This meant that bringing provisions to the boy had become a physiological response for them.

The couple was probably very kind-hearted when they were alive.

Even in the zombie apocalypse, they chose to help others unconditionally.

"What a couple of fools..."

Stel despised this behavior.

It was the zombie apocalypse, and they still chose to put themselves in danger to help others.

How foolish could they be!

Stel would occasionally help other survivors, but only if his own safety was assured.

But this couple's actions were utterly foolish.

They risked their lives to help others, only to end up as zombies themselves.

And the boy, influenced by their efforts, even if he hadn't turned into a zombie, would have starved to death in that hole without their continued support.

In the end, no one was truly saved.

Calling them fools was an understatement.

He followed the zombie couple to see where they were headed.

After walking through a narrow path,

Stel followed the couple to a place behind a building.

There were very few zombies in this area.

But that didn't matter to Stel.

Because he found something he needed most at that moment.

A tricycle!

Although it looked very run-down,

And one of the wheels was nearly flat.
