In a dimly lit chamber beneath the Palace in the Kingdom of Oephidia, Veridian stood before a vast, intricate map of the Vaul, his eyes gleaming with malevolent satisfaction. The once-captured Naja sorcerer, Kazu, now free of his chains, hovered nearby. His allegiance lingered, but his loyalty to Veridian had become resolute.
"You may have banished the guardians, but they're not defeated yet," Kazu murmured, his voice a low hiss as he studied the map. "They'll seek to regroup and counter our moves. We must prepare for their every move."
Veridian's lips curled into a sinister smile, his sharp teeth glinting in the low light. "I'm always one step ahead. They cannot stop this war or prevent it, we are unstoppable. We've planted the seeds of chaos, and now it's time to harvest the fruits of our labor."
Kazu, now stood beside Veridian as a trusted ally—one with the same motive and interests. He understood that Veridian was the key to getting the respect and reverence the nagas and najas deserved. "The banishment of the guardians was a good way to begin. We've discredited them in the eyes of the council, but if they return to Kragnir, they'll become a threat again. What if they forge an alliance with the Garudas?"
Veridian's eyes darkened with contempt. "We'll crush the Garudas either way. Our forces are ready, and the magical arrows I've been preparing will ensure that Kragnir falls before they can mount any meaningful defense."
Kazu nodded, though a flicker of uncertainty passed through his eyes. "The arrows… are powerful, yes, but its nature is volatile. If it's unleashed without proper control—"
"—Then we control it," Veridian interjected, his voice brooking no dissent. "I've spent years studying the ancient magic, and I know exactly how to harness its power. Kragnir will be reduced to rubble, and with it, the Garuda King and those meddlesome guardians."
Kazu inclined his head, though his thoughts remained guarded. Veridian had freed him from his chains, but he knew the Naga King isn't to be blindly trusted because of Veridian's betrayal of all those closest to him. He needed to be cautious. "And Melinoe?" he asked cautiously. "Her body has not been found. What If she survived?"
Veridian's expression twisted with barely concealed rage. "Melinoe is most likely dead. If she's alive, she won't come here alone because I've ordered assassins to kill her if she sets foot in the Kingdom. Besides, there's no one to help her, the guardians have been banished and will not come to Oephidia for the sake of the fragile peace they're trying to maintain and Melinoe doesn't have an army of her own so she's not our priority. Kragnir must fall, and if, any any of the guardians interfere, they'll have to face the might of our entire army."
The two shared a look of dark understanding before Veridian turned away, dismissing Kazu with a wave. "Go. Prepare your troops and the weapons, all the Najas and Nagas will fight side by side. We strike soon, and this time, we take back our dignity and end the Garudas once and for all."

Back in Kragnir, the atmosphere in the grand chamber was one of tense anticipation. Melinoe had been strategically planning with King Eothis, Kael, Mieza, Zola, and Zym, her strength renewed, her thoughts were consumed by the possible moves Veridian would likely make. The guardians were prepared, and now all eyes were on their next move.
The grand chamber of Kragnir was bathed in the golden light of the setting sun, casting long shadows across the room. The air was thick with the scent of burning incense, adding a somber weight to the council's urgent discussions.
King Eothis, his wings folded behind him, paced before the council members, who sat around the large table. The room buzzed with discussion and strategy. Melinoe stood near the entrance, her fiery red hair cascading down her back, her green dress draped elegantly over her human legs—a stark contrast to the emerald tail that usually marked her Naga identity. Her vibrant green eyes scanned the room, taking in the faces of those who she once didn't trust but now trusted with the fate of her people.
Kael and the guardians entered the chamber, their expressions serious. "If Veridian is planning an attack, he's going to exploit all the possible weaknesses," Kael boomed, his voice cutting through the chatter. "Veridian is cunning and will seek that which will give the nagas and Najas a good advantage."
Eothis nodded, acknowledging Kael's words. "I believe so, if he's as cunning as he is believed to be, he will seek knowledge of the weaknesses of my people."
Melinoe stepped forward, her gaze intense. "I strongly believe that I may know what it is. I believe Veridian has a weapon—a source of dark magic that he plans to unleash. He's been using dark magic with the help of the Najas as well."
The council members exchanged worried glances, but Eothis remained calm, his mind already racing through possible strategies. "We need to find this source and destroy it."
Mieza, ever sharp, added, "You shouldn't be worried about that your Majesty. Kael and I are not just celestial guardians, we're also powerful demons, remember? If we can neutralize it, Veridian will lose his greatest advantage but for that Kael and I will have to infiltrate the palace to achieve this."
Zym nodded in agreement, his resolve clear. "Yes, and Kael and Mieza are both capable of infiltrating deep into the subterranean territory without being detected."
Kael looked to Melinoe, his expression firm. "You know Veridian better than any of us. If there's any way to predict where he might have hidden this weapon, now's the time."
Melinoe's eyes darkened with determination. "There's an ancient vault beneath the palace, deep in the heart of my kingdom. It holds artifacts of immense power, long forgotten by most. If Veridian's hiding anything, it's there."
Kael stepped forward, his voice steady. "Then that's where we'll go. But we must be quick. Every moment we delay gives Veridian more time to prepare his army."
King Eothis looked at Mieza and Kael, his expression resolute. "It's a good thing you both came to Vaul. My army will defend my kingdom with everything we have, while you both find and destroy Veridian's source of dark magic. Zym and Zola will join us."
Ethel, who had been quietly listening to the conversation, finally stepped forward, his demeanor calm. "Your Majesty if I may speak, we need to also find the right moment to let the Nagas know that Queen Melinoe is alive. The Najas were not the only ones swayed by Veridian's promises of power and respect, the Nagas too have agreed with him. If the Nagas knew that their Queen—Melinoe, is alive and well, the revelation could turn the tables and even prevent the war especially when they find out Veridian betrayed them all.
Kael, who had been listening intently, suddenly interjected, his voice cutting through the tension in the room. "Veridian may know, deep down, that Melinoe is alive," he said, his blue eyes narrowing as he looked around at the gathered council members. "He's too cunning to fully believe in her death without her body being recovered after she was fatally wounded. If Melinoe shows herself, he will almost certainly make another attempt on her life, using the Najas again. We can't underestimate his determination to eliminate her so he can wage this war. We must be vigilant, not just in our fight against his forces, but in protecting Melinoe at all costs. If Veridian sees her as a threat, he'll stop at nothing to silence her. I have a particular moment in mind where she'll reveal herself and the truth for all eyes to see. Worry not."
King Eothis turned to Ethel, his expression calm yet resolute. "Ethel, I understand your concerns, but you must trust the guardians to handle this," he said, his voice steady and reassuring. "Kael, Mieza, Zola, and Zym have faced dangers far greater than this. They are not only skilled and wise but also deeply committed to protecting us all and our realm. We have a plan, and with their expertise, everything will fall into place. We will be vigilant, we will be prepared, and we will not let Veridian's schemes succeed."
The guardians and council members nodded, their collective resolve steeling for the battle ahead. As they left the chamber to prepare for their respective missions, the weight of what was to come hung heavily over them. Veridian's dark plans loomed like a storm on the horizon, but together, they would face it head-on.
