Chapter 2 - Chapter 1: Roll of the Dice

So this is death huh? Not what I expected.

What did I expect? Well, frankly it was hell. There was no way I was making it to the pearly gates or any other paradise of other religions.

And, uhh, I don't remember hell being described as drifting across the cosmos for eternity in any religion I know. And while the sight was out of the world I prefer to not stay drifting here forever, so hopefully this isn't my eternity.

How did I die you ask? Well, it was a pretty gnarly death if I do say so myself.

I died after sleeping with my Boss' wife.

I mean, I couldn't help it, she was lonely and attractive, and I was around. So I made a mistake in the heat of passion.

A couple dozen times, I may have made a couple dozen mistakes in a couple dozen heats of passion.

Now, after finding it out, my boss was rightfully pissed, after all, I slept with his wife.

Well, also sleeping with his daughter may have had a part in his decision too. And also sleeping with his wife and daughter at the same time too.

I admit my fault, I may have been a little reckless.

Sleeping with your boss's wife and daughter is not the brightest idea at the best of times. Especially when your boss may or may not have ties to the Yakuza.

Even more so if you are working for the Yakuza. And your boss IS the head of one of the largest Yakuza groups in the entirety of Japan.

You can't blame me too much, it would go against the very nature of my being to ignore a lonely wife in need of company. Plus he was kind of an asshole too, so he deserved it.

But yeah, long story short, the boss was pissed and ordered my head on a plate. So I had to flee the city with some help from some acquaintances. Funnily enough, it wasn't even sleeping with my Boss' wife and daughter that did me in.

After I somehow managed to flee to Kyoto, by a twist of fate and irony I was hit by a truck driven by a drunkard after escaping from one of the most dangerous Yakuza organizations in Japan.

After all of that, it wasn't my recklessness that did me in but an uncontrollable aspect of life. In the end, as a human, I couldn't oppose the absolute power of a truck.

What happened in my life that drove me to that point?

Well, I suppose I should introduce myself. I am Kotaro Hakari, 23 years old. Now dead.

As I've just told you, I worked for the Yakuza before my untimely demise, it wasn't much nor was it honest work but it was work regardless and it paid very well. And I didn't really have any other choice for employment.

Y'see, before becoming a part of the unscrupulous bunch I was somewhat of a neet. Rarely going outside, spending most of my time absently wasting the days away. Of course, I at least kept myself in shape since there wasn't that much to do. Working on myself was a hobby I used to spend time on, hoping that if I was iseakai'd one day I would be in shape for it.

One day, when I was halfway through my parent's life insurance and inheritance I suddenly got the urge to make something with my life in the middle of the night.

So the day after I went job hunting, and as you can imagine someone who hardly had a High school diploma had difficulty in finding a job that did not involve flipping burgers in a fast food chain. After a long day of job hunting, I decided to go to a bar to unwind and get a drink since I never did before.

One thing led to another and I ended up chatting with a really pretty older lady at the bar, and after a solid 2 hours of chatting and my painful attempts to flirt which she humoured me on we ended up kind of...

Well, she was really drunk and brought me to her apartment and we ended up kind of going at it. Like really going at it, that was the day I lost my virginity.

I thought: "Wow, how can a lady this hot be still single?"

And that's true, you wouldn't expect a lady like that to be single. Because she wasn't. She just neglected to mention the fact since this would be a one-night stand and her husband wouldn't be home, she wanted to get back at him for fooling around with other women apparently.

Well, the problem came when he walked in on us while I was in on her.

Did I forget to mention that her husband was an executive in one of the biggest Yakuza families in Tokyo?

So I had to pull myself out of his wife and put my hands up to fight him off while buck ass naked and somehow managed to knock him out before escaping.

But you can't exactly fuck a Yakuza wife and expect to see next week, so now that I was in hot shit I either had to flee to a corner of Japan or get some protection. Thankfully I managed to get into a bigger rival Family.

It was fairly easy because there was a rumour going around that an unknown young buck fucked Yoshinori's wife and knocked him on his ass. And the Family used taking me in as a power play.

And that kids, is how I ended up in the Yakuza.

No regrets.

Was I a good person? Hell to the fuck no. Did you not hear about the Yakuza part? My job wasn't to stand around looking pretty, it was to act as a bodyguard, collect debt payments, break kneecaps, whack deserters and all that jazz.

Man fled with the prostitute he got pregnant? My job was to whack him.

It wasn't the most glorious work and it put me on the bad side of the law. But it worked to fuel my anime and game addiction so I was happy. I really did not have many expenditures beyond food and rent so I just spent money buying trinkets and feeding my collection of figurines etc.

Ugh, yikes, I can still remember the times when I would spout off an anime one-liner before caving someone's head in. Still makes me cringe today, I wonder if they truly died from the bat I hit them with or did they actually die of cringe?

Whelp, none of that matters now. Cus I'm dead. Super dead, that truck was pretty goddam fast, I am pretty sure whatever is left of my body is little more than a smear of gore across the asphalt.

As I was reminiscing about my life I noticed something.

A giant cloud of static like a real-life bugged spot. Before I could wonder further about what it was my body impacted the cloud of static, and I felt like I was dropped in an ocean of over-carbonated water along with a splitting headache.

What the fuck is going on!?

Enduring the feeling that had increased to hundreds of ants crawling across my body and biting every inch of it I felt like something deep inside was being changed, like some rearranged my soul. Soon enough the feeling faded away, leaving me with a feeling of what the fuck.

Thankfully, to scramble my disorientated brain even further I noticed a black and yellow translucent interface of all things appear in front of my face. A chaotic mess of numbers and symbols slowly formed into something I could read.

This has answered fewer questions than it has raised.

New life? Ability? Another world? Gacha?

Seriously- what in the goddam?

You have acquired 3 Random Tickets

____________________________

Alright, fuck it. Roll with the punch. I'll humour the screen in front of me, since there is quite literally nothing else to do other than floating around, tell me, what is a random ticket?

____________________________

Ticket Explanation:

Tickets allow you to roll the corresponding gacha they align with. The random ticket can give you anything ranging from Items, Familiars, Powers and Skills.

World transfer will start once all tickets have been spent.

I stared blankly at the screen in front of me for what felt like hours before I read and understood the words but my brain refused to make sense of it.

So... apparently, I suddenly came into possession of some sort of Gacha System that would revive and send me into a random world after I presumably got some boons from it.

Or... the last few months of my life could have been fake and I could be in a drug-induced coma right now. That seems more likely in all honesty.

But this felt too real.

So something out there wanted to give me a second try at life huh? Seemingly out of pure chance as well somehow.

Well, why not?

I have no reason to refuse, if I even can in the first place. If I had another roll in the game of life I sure as hell I am taking it. Even if that means putting my trust in this "Gacha System".

But seriously, Gacha? It had to be Gacha of all things? Sure I may be a gambling man but even I refused to touch gacha after playing Fate Grand Order for a week.

Gacha is the root of chaos, the cauldron of malice. It will take all of your hopes and dreams and in exchange, it will spit out 10 common and uncommon drops along with a noose to hang yourself with.

And now I was depending on it for my future.

Look on the bright side. I could have just been left to wander the emptiness of the vast cosmos forever.

...I will take my chances with the Gacha.

Out of curiosity. When you say a random world what do you mean?

____________________________

Worlds explanation:

The user will be sent into a random world whether it be from Games, Anime, Manga or Comics.

Holy shit. So I am getting transported into a random world like Anime?

Okay, this may be better than I thought. Which weeb would not want to get transported to an anime world post-mortem? But this raises a question.

When it says random. Doesn't that mean I am as likely to end up in Berserk as Konosuba? Or god forbid Warhammer 40k?

Yes.

Okay... never mind. Maybe this deal is not as sunshine and rainbows as I first thought. If I don't get something good from this Gacha I am probably fucked.

When I said I was a gambling man I did not mean I WANTED to gamble with my life.

But life was a fickle thing, the roll of the dice was what decided your fate, and when life decided to drop shit in your hands the only thing you could do was to make lemonade out of it.

While I wasn't a particularly lucky man if you look at how I died, I am a resourceful one, and a gacha? I could work with that, hell, even a new lease on life was more than anything I had a right to ask for.

So.

I will play your game.

Let's roll the dice.

A/N: As you might have noticed, this main character, Hakari is quite a bit different than the ones I usually write. But hopefully you guys like him.

Don't worry about balancing, I tweaked the system so that Hakari won't be absurdly overpowered unless he keeps getting absurdly lucky.

For this fic, I spent several months assembling my own gacha system, including custom rarities for each ability, trait etc. The finer details will be expanded on in the next chapter.

My RNGesus look on Hakari kindly because he will need all of the luck he can get his hands on.

Anyway, I hope you guys will enjoy this one because I certainly enjoy writing it!
