Chapter 44 - Chapter 42: Hot & Cold

~Rumi Usagiyama/Mirko~

Mirko glanced around in interest and mild irritation as she strolled around the festival grounds.

Normally, she would enjoy the festival far more, she did choose to attend after all, watching kids beating the shit out of each other every year in an Olympic scale was fun, the food and entertainment were also great.

The only problem was...

'Where the fuck is Ryuko?'

She came to the festival with her friend and fellow hero Ryuko, her friend was bad at relaxing and a borderline workaholic, she wouldn't even attend the festival if Mirko hadn't dragged her there. But she had lost her friend when she stopped to sign some autographs.

And she didn't know where to find her in the crowd.

And she was getting hungry.

...And her hero costume did not have pockets.

The money was with Ryuko(Whose costume did have pockets) and with her height she sure as hell wouldn't be spotting her in this crowd. She grumbled, several people came over to her to take an autograph but she shooed them away.

As she was walking and grumbling while looking at the ground she bumped into someone, she expected them to be knocked down as they usually did after bumping into her but the figure remained steadfast like a wall of meat.

She craned her neck to get a proper look at him and she opened her eyes a little larger in surprise.

The boy she bumped into was tall, and muscular too, she noted seeing how the shirt strained against some juicy abs and pecks, he was built like All Might or Endeavor, just a little slimmer but more compact.

He was pretty handsome too, in fact totally her type even, he had sharp eyebrows and a piercing set of yellow eyes that were wide open from surprise yet the rest of his expression hadn't changed all that much, he looked stoic like a rock.

And then there was his hair, it looked like the mane of a lion, wild hair cascading down his shoulders but obviously properly maintained, although the hair seemed to refuse any notion of staying straight just like a wild animal. He looked like what she assumed a son of All Might would like funnily enough.

'Actually...' She tilted her head and gave him another look.

Spiky hair, yellow eyes, animalistic look, aspiring hero...

Mirko's eyebrows raised.

'I didn't know Ryuko had a kid behind my back!'

She saw the kid appraising her, his eyes notably lingering on her breasts and thighs, making her smirk, she didn't mind him looking. If she was shy about her body she wouldn't be wearing a leotard for her hero costume.

"Hey kid you good? You're looking a little dazed there." Mirko couldn't help but tease him.

"Sorry, I was taken back for a second, I didn't think I would get to see the Mirko here." Rumi grinned even more, at least he had somewhat proper manners, may even be a fan of hers.

"So? You a fan? What's your name boy?" The boy nodded without hesitation.

"Yeah, I am a fan of your work, I also use strikes and wrestling a lot so your fights are actually an inspiration for me. The names Hakari Kotaro." So he was a man of culture, Mirko could appreciate that. The muscles on his body vouched for his words.

"I can see that. You've got good muscles on you, you a third or fourth year?" The boy raised an eyebrow.

"Thanks, I'm a first year though." Rumi's eyes widened.

That boy? The one that was built like a brick shithouse? He looked like he would driving his kids to school not the other way around. But she didn't dwell on it.

"So, what are you doing here Mirko-san?" The boy casually tried to make conversation but as she was about to respond-

Grumble!!!

Her stomach made a loud noise of protest, demanding to be fed, making Mirko flush ever so slightly, that was embarrassing, especially in front of a fan. She snarled a little at the quirking of his lips. She was about to retort when he beat her to the punch.

"Well, I was planning to eat, would you like to join me Mirko-san? I-" Then suddenly he shivered a little, making Mirko quirk an eyebrow, it didn't feel particularly cold and she was the one in a leotard here. "-I'm pretty sure I saw a stall near here that sold some great carrot cakes, my treat of course." Mirko's ears perked up without noticing.

Some carrot cakes sounded heavenly right now, and she was hungry and she couldn't find Ryuko so she immediately started rationalizing in her head.

'The kid is obviously a fan, and he looks rich and handsome too, the money wouldn't be a problem for him! He probably wants to spend some time with his favourite hero, that's it, it would be rude to reject a fan right? Definitely! The hero Mirko doesn't take advantage of her fans!' Mirko nodded to herself while her ears twitched in excitement, Hakari struggled to contain himself, it looked adorable.

Mirko playfully punched his shoulder making him stumble a little with wide eyes.

"You little rascal! You just want a one-on-one with your favourite hero don't you?" Mirko barked out with a laugh "Alright, let's go then!"

Hakari shrugged.

"Guilty as charged. I'll lead the way"

~Hakari Kotaro~

I was incredibly surprised to see Mirko here but it was very welcome, the rabbit heroine was probably the hottest hero ever and fuck you I was biased.

The only way I was dying in this world was between those thighs, mark my words. We found a stall where I ordered a carrot cake for her and a cream pie for myself. I found the place when shivers suddenly butted in as I was talking.

As we ate Mirko's ears showed her delight at the treats, according to Shivers this was the best stall after all. While we ate Mirko decided to make some conversation.

"So, kid, why do you wanna be a hero? Must have a pretty good quirk to get into UA." I couldn't help but detect the slight emotion when she said good quirk there, interesting.

I had to think for a second. I could have given some campy answer like 'I want to save people!' but I didn't want to, I wasn't going to pretend to be someone I wasn't just to impress people.

"I just didn't want to be a villain. I didn't know what to do so I wanted to see if I could find what I was looking for as a hero. It may not be grandiose or it may be kind of lame but... well, that's just my reason." Mirko hummed, smiling while taking another bite out of her 4th carrot cake.

"I get you. I didn't want to be a hero until I went to hero school either! I just went along because I didn't want to become a villain either. So I can't call yours lame without me being lame either!" She pointed to herself with her thumb, like a certain man with a horrible hairline while I couldn't help but smile a little.

"That's... actually does make me feel better. Thank you Mirko-san." At my words Mirko blushed a little but laughed it off, once again I thank Kakyoin's Blessing.

"Don't mention kid, not everyone needs a reason to be a hero, sometimes you discover it when you are one." Those words actually stuck with me for some reason I couldn't describe, she went on. "So? You didn't tell me yet, what's your quirk?"

I smirked.

"You'll see it in action once I claim the top spot in the sports festival." Mirko laughed loudly and smacked the table.

"Hahaha! You're a cocky kid huh? I like that! Are you really that confident in yourself?" She gave me an amused smile while I gave one back.

Confidence is key in life, if you take a step forward without it you would be more likely to stumble.

Plus, women liked confidence. Sometimes, some women actually didn't. It's a coin flip really.

"Certain." Mirko barked out another laughter again.

"Heh! Now I really want to see you try! Alright kid, I'll watch you, you better not disappoint after talking all that hot air! In fact, if you win I'll buy you a meal, how 'bout that?"

"Deal, keep your eyes peeled and your wallet ready." Mirko was definitely my kind of person.

...Man, I really want to fight her.

Maybe she will take me in as her internship?

Shortly after, I had to part ways with Mirko since the race would be starting, she assured me that she would be watching so I had to be at my best. I decided, I wasn't just going to win, I would win everything here in every category. No cheese.

So I wouldn't just go Phase Shift, Scary Monsters, Momentum, and Frostflare to turn into a dinosaur supersonic jet and just cross the entire thing in a handful of seconds. I wanted to get as many offers as possible so I needed to prove myself in every aspect.

"Urgh, I'm bored." I said, leaning back on my chair and kicking my feet up on the table in the waiting room for class 1-A, everybody was here, waiting for the start of the sports festival proper. But damn wasn't it boring.

"Here, have some crisps, I brought some extra." I dunked my hand into the bag Ball Man held out for and took a few chips in my mouth, mmm, salty goodness.

"Thank you, Grapefruit." Mineta shrugged his shoulders and offered some more chips to Sero who was talking to Kirishima. While everyone was minding their own business Tsuyu approached me with her nonchalance.

"By the way, Hakari-kun, I've been meaning to ask, what are those scars on your forearms-ribbit? I never noticed before since you always wear that compression shirt underneath so I got curious-ribbit." I noticed others also started paying more attention, so they were also curious huh?

I usually wore my compression shirt under but I wasn't allowed to for the festival and the uniforms only went down to the elbow, according to Nezu I apparently had nothing to hide, whatever that meant.

"Oh, those? I fell down some stairs." Tsuyu tilted her head.

"Hakari-kun, your arms look like someone tore them apart and put them back together." I could see Toga in the corner, doing anything but looking in my direction and whistling an innocent tune. Not a hint of shame. And I could see Tsuyu's point.

My arms did look like they were mauled by a pack of wolves. Scratches, bites, tear scars, and even gouges. A solid 3rd was from fighting Toga, another third was fighting against the Nomu, and the last third was from fighting Toga but in a different way.

"...They were really long stairs, and I was holding knives, irresponsibly." Tsuyu hummed.

"Well, if you dont want to speak about then that's also fine Hakari-kun." Someone coughed and changed the topic, I saw it was Kirishima.

"Hey, what do you guys the first event will be?" Toga chimed in.

"It's gotta be something big, the general courses are also participating, it would take forever if they didn't do an event that could host every class." Momo also joined in.

"You're right Toga-san, perhaps it will be king of the hill or capture the flag?" The electricity guy shrugged his shoulders.

"Didn't they do King of the Hill as the first event last year?"

"Whatever challenge comes our way we will just have to endure." Before further speculation could happen Ida came back and slammed the door open with gusto.

"Everyone! Are you ready!? We will be entering soon!" That got everyone out of their chair including me, finally, some action!

As everyone got up to prepare I was approached by a stoic-looking Todoroki, looking very sure and determined. He got all the way up to punching distance, so he obviously had nothing friendly to say.

"I will be frank, looking at how things are I am stronger than you. But you still score higher than me in class. I am going to right that and beat you." My eye twitched, I took another step closing the distance between.

Oh, he pissed me off.

"Oh? And how do you plan to do that when you only use one-half of your quirk?" Half-fuck did not back down, staring into my eyes as the rest of the class stilled.

"Just my ice is good enough. I plan to beat you and get the number one ranking and prove I don't need my flames."

"So..." My eyes narrowed.

"...You think just half of your effort is better than my all?" My lips twisted into a snarl.

We both said nothing, just staring each other down, neither side willing to back down.

"H-hey guys I don't we should fight- oh okay nevermind." Kirishima tried to get in-between us but a glance at him from both of us made him recoil back as if struck.

"Whatever, if you wanna make a declaration like that, then you better stand your ground and actually do what you are going to say you will." We both walked away from each other, and only then did everyone start gathering their things up and leaving, there were some comments about not fighting each other but we both ignored them.

Half-shit was willing to throw down and I was willing to plant him down under.

I walked out with my class, following the entrance to the stadium proper to be greeted by mountainous cheers bellowing out from a crowd that numbered over a several tens of thousands of people.

My heart thrummed in excitement.

It was finally time to play.

A/N: An unexpected wild rabbit makes an encounter! I will admit, I am biased, I am absolutely down bad for Mirko without shame. I love her personality and fighting style too, it doesn't help that I also like dark-skinned anime girls in general. Did you guys like the meeting between Mirko and Hakari? What did you think about it?

Also, the festival stage one starts properly. And tensions are already climbing with half-ice boy throwing coals into the flame. Before Stain arc, Todoroki really was kind of an asshole. What did you guys think about the chapter and what ideas do you have for the marathon section of the festival? I would love to know.
