Days pass by
I performed the surgery through thick and thin respacing the patient over and over again during the operation. After 7 hours of operation we manage to secure and save the little boy. I was so tired and sleepy my neck and back aches like no body's business. I wish I could just take a shower and sleep for days. making my way to my office,
After what seemed like an eternity, I completed my rounds, checked on other patients, and followed up with the 7-year-old boy. His health had improved significantly.
I knocked off,
"Dr. Murray, please wait," Dr. Less said, running towards me holding two coffees and giving me one.
While taking the coffee, "Thanks," I indicated to him with a hand gesture.
He walked me to my car in the parking lot.
"I have been wondering."
"Wondering about what?"
"Let's do lunch or dinner sometime when we're done saving the world."
He smiled, but deep down you could tell he was nervous.
I looked at him and smiled, exposing my dimples.
"Lunch and dinner as in like a date?"
Taking a big breath and smiling,
"Yes, as in a date. Rain, the truth is I would like to know more of you and if you permit, I would really like that."
I unlocked my car and put my stuff in the passenger seat, closed the door, and looked at him. "Well,
I can do a date, but I can't promise you anything else." Walking towards him, I said, "I mean, so don't expect much, hey."
He smiled, "At last, that's a start to get to know you. I mean, we don't know what the future holds, right?"
We talked while I leaned on the car door and laughed,
not knowing that a black Cayenne parked not far away. Junior was watching, his fist clenched, and if looks could kill a person, you... could feel the intensity of his gaze burning holes through the windshield. Junior had always been a possessive type, and seeing me with Dr. Less seemed to ignite a new level of anger in him. But at that moment, I was blissfully unaware of the storm brewing in the distance.
As Dr. Less and I finalized our plans for the upcoming date, the setting sun cast a warm, golden hue over the parking lot, I allowed myself to entertain the idea of something more than just work.
"Alright, it's a date then," I said, giving him a playful wink. "Text me the details."
He nodded, his smile broadening, "I will. Take care, Rain."
As I drove away, a mix of excitement and apprehension churned within me. It had been a long time since I had allowed myself to be vulnerable, to open up to someone new. Yet, there was something genuine in Dr. Less's eyes that made me want to take that chance.
Little did I know, the events that would unfold. The shadow of Junior's presence loomed larger than I could have ever anticipated, and his unpredictable nature threatened to unravel the fragile sense of normalcy I was beginning to build.
got home, exited my car, and headed to my room. There, I found Junior, standing tall, leaning against my apartment door. He was dressed in all black, from his coat to his shirt and trousers, accentuating his long legs. With one hand in his pocket and a toothpick in his mouth, his hair partially covering his eyes, he exuded charm. Mesmerized, I couldn't help but gaze at him as my heart raced with excitement. His eyes shone with a mix of purity and intensity that captivated me.
