Chapter 42 - Conflict

The next day, as the sky gradually brightened.

Born and his group didn't have any timekeeping tools, so they could only wait for everyone to act.

Soon, the group of forty to fifty people from before approached the Red Sea Tavern.

Seeing this, Born waved his hand and said, "Leave 15 people to guard the combat vehicles and be ready to respond at any time. The rest, follow me."

After saying this, Born was the first to jump off the combat vehicle.

One by one, figures jumped down in an orderly manner, moving extremely quickly.

The sound of the automatic crossbows was very small, and Born and his group deliberately kept the noise to a minimum.

Soon, everyone walked into the Red Sea Tavern.

Inside the tavern, there was even a red carpet laid out, and there were no signs of zombies. However, there were still bloodstains on the surrounding walls.

The forty to fifty people who had come in earlier were leaning against the sides, watching Born's group with wary eyes.

Soon, the crowd parted, and a middle-aged man with a receding hairline walked towards Born.

Born recognized this man: Stanley, the former mayor of Dover City.

Stanley extended his hand and smiled, "How should I address you?"

Born also extended his hand and replied indifferently, "Born."

While the two were exchanging pleasantries, another group of people rushed in from outside.

At the head of this group was a middle-aged man in his forties or fifties, exuding an imposing presence. His eyes swept across the entire tavern, commanding respect without a word.

The people beside him spread out, vigilantly watching their surroundings.

Seeing this, Born felt somewhat helpless.

Previously, he had felt a bit self-satisfied. Anyone invited by Star Labs who could make it through millions of zombies to get here was truly formidable.

Each person's combat ability was strong, and their vigilance was high.

However, this group had one major flaw.

"Born is surrounded by top-notch beauties, and they all seem quite formidable."

"Your outfits are quite stylish, too," Stanley added with a smile.

The forty to fifty people Stanley had brought along stared wide-eyed at Born's maid squad.

Without delay, Stanley approached the middle-aged man and greeted him with a cheerful demeanor.

This middle-aged man was Edwin, the chairman of Edwin Group.

Edwin glanced at Born and then shifted his attention back to exchanging pleasantries with Stanley.

In this hall of over a hundred people from three factions, Born stood out the most.

Amidst the sea of men, there were a dozen people dressed as maids, naturally drawing everyone's attention.

Despite their heated gazes, Stanley and Edwin's subordinates remained disciplined and refrained from approaching the maid squad.

At this moment, the ice-cold beauty Aileen appeared, leading the dazed Angelica.

Born stared at Angelica for a long time, but she seemed oblivious to his presence.

To be precise, Angelica seemed unaware of anyone around her.

"Boss, what's with Angelica?" Mia whispered.

Born nodded subtly and then joined Stanley and Edwin.

"Welcome Born from Dover City Shelter, former Mayor Stanley of Dover City, and Edwin, Chairman of Edwin Group," Aileen said.

Her voice was ethereal and cool, like an immortal untouched by the world.

Despite her welcoming words, her expression remained icy.

"You know Born, greet him," Aileen instructed Angelica.

Angelica paused, as if awakening from a dream, and nodded.

"Hello, Born," she said.

Born's breath caught in his throat.

He didn't want to admit it, but Angelica had never seriously called him by his name, always referring to him as either "jerk" or "bastard."

Something was wrong with Angelica!

"Miss Angelica, hello," Born deliberately raised his voice.

Angelica looked up at Born, a hint of confusion flashing in her eyes, but she quickly lowered her head again without any further reaction.

"Actually, Angelica, like you, Born, is a special individual with dual abilities. We've been dedicated to researching the conditions for awakening dual abilities, but without success."

"One of your abilities is electricity, but what is the other one?" Aileen suddenly smiled.

When this woman smiled, she was truly captivating.

But Born felt a chill. An icy person suddenly smiling at you created an eerie sense of incongruity that he couldn't comprehend.

Dual abilities?

Born secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

It made sense. There were many types of abilities, and it was understandable that Star Labs mistook Born's ability to resurrect female zombies as an ability.

As long as the system wasn't exposed.

The system was Born's biggest secret. As for dual abilities?

Let them think he has dual abilities.

Born displayed a noncommittal smile and didn't deny it.

Aileen paused, then gestured for everyone to follow.

The mention of dual abilities piqued Edwin's interest, who had previously been indifferent to Born.

Entering the banquet hall, members in combat uniforms were busy moving around, placing plates of exquisite dishes on the tables.

On either side, there were two long tables filled with food.

"Your subordinates are invited to dine at the sides. The three of you, please follow me," Aileen said, as the people around her dispersed.

In the center of the banquet hall was a small table with four chairs, clearly prepared for Born and his companions.

The exquisite dishes made Born feel as if the apocalypse had never happened.

Aileen sat down and invited everyone to take their seats.

"Rest assured, all the food you see here was grown and raised by my Star Labs. It is completely free of pollutants, highly nutritious, and quite tasty," Aileen said, taking the first bite of meat.

Seeing this, Edwin and the others also began to eat.

Only Born remained still.

"Born, is the food not to your taste?" Aileen asked.

Born spread his hands helplessly, "What if you've poisoned it?"

At these words, Edwin and Stanley paused with their food halfway to their mouths, uncertain whether to proceed or stop.

Born then laughed heartily, "Just kidding."

"Let's be straightforward. You didn't invite us here just to eat, did you?"

The tension at the table eased considerably.

Aileen looked at Born with interest and said after a moment, "Interesting."

"I wanted to ask, what are your thoughts on this apocalypse?"

The atmosphere grew tense again.

Edwin and Stanley's expressions visibly darkened.

Edwin threw down his chopsticks, leaned back, and stared at Aileen.

"There's a rumor that these monsters were created by Star Labs. And you're asking us what we think?" Edwin said, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

"Aileen, do you think you're being funny?"
