Part 1
Philip arrived at the engagement party with Galatea in a sleek black limousine. The vehicle glided to a stop at the entrance of the Hotel Imperial in Tochago. The Imperia Ballroom, situated on the top floor of the hotel, promised a night of opulence and splendor, evoked the grandeur of an aristocratic banquet from a bygone era.
As the limousine doors opened, Philip stepped out first, offering his hand to Galatea. She emerged with effortless grace, a vision of elegance in a knee-length, form-fitting gown of deep sapphire blue that shimmered under the evening lights. Her hair was styled in loose waves cascading down her back, and her makeup accentuated her natural beauty, making her eyes sparkle like jewels. Everyone who saw her was mesmerized, their gazes followed her every move.
Philip couldn't take his eyes off her. "You look absolutely stunning, Galatea," he said, his voice filled with admiration.
Galatea smiled warmly, her eyes twinkling with affection. "Thank you, Philip. You look quite handsome yourself," she replied, smoothing a nonexistent wrinkle on his perfectly tailored tuxedo. She then added playfully, "Although, you could use some exercise for that belly of yours."
Philip chuckled, feeling a mix of embarrassment and amusement. "I'll get right on that," he promised, feeling a surge of warmth at her teasing yet affectionate manner.
As they walked away from the car, the valet got into the limousine to direct the driver to the designated parking area for the event. At the hotel entrance, Philip and Galatea were stopped by attendants who checked their invitations. They were then led into the grand lobby, a place of polished marble floors, luxurious furnishings, and a distinct aroma of blooming roses and twinkling fairy lights.
Inside, they were led to a private elevator reserved exclusively for Dr. Sokraberg's event. Before entering, they were reminded to turn off their cellphones and of their earlier legal commitment to refrain from publishing any photos taken during the party on public social media platforms.
"Max really is big on privacy," Philip remarked, switching off his phone.
"That's Dr. Sokraberg for you," Galatea said with a knowing smile.
The elevator ascended smoothly, revealing a breathtaking view of the Tochago skyline and Lake Beau through the glass panels.
As they entered the Imperia Ballroom, they were met with an atmosphere of elegance and sophistication. The ceiling soared high above, featuring intricate coffered designs and sparkling crystal chandeliers that cast a warm, golden glow over the room. Rich burgundy drapes framed the panoramic windows, contrasting beautifully with the cream and gold decor. Polished marble columns added a touch of classical grandeur.
Philip felt a surge of awe and excitement. As they stepped into the ballroom, they immediately noticed Dr. Sokraberg and Snow, who were surrounded by a large group of people. Snow looked exceptionally beautiful and attention-catching in a white short cheongsam with a fur stole, her presence commanding the room's focus. It was clear that the center of attention that evening was around Dr. Max Sokraberg and Snow, celebrating their engagement.
As Philip and Galatea entered, they felt the gaze of the room shift to them. Max noticed them and waved warmly but couldn't approach them right away because of the crowd surrounding him and Snow.
Galatea leaned closer to Philip, her voice a soft murmur. "See, I told you this place is breathtaking, didn't I?"
Philip nodded, still mesmerized by her beauty. "It is, but not as breathtaking as you," he replied, earning a pleased smile from Galatea.
They made their way further into the room, taking in the long, elegantly set tables forming a U-shape, promoting intimate conversation and a sense of inclusiveness. Deep burgundy velvet tablecloths adorned each table, complemented by gold-trimmed china, crystal glassware, and polished silver cutlery. Handwritten name cards and menu cards detailing the evening's culinary delights were placed at each setting. Floral arrangements featuring white peonies, red roses, and greenery were interspersed with tall, gold candelabras holding flickering ivory candles.
As they moved throughout the room, Galatea and Philip drew numerous glances of admiration, especially for Galatea, who seemed to captivate everyone with her presence.
Audrey, accompanied by her two older brothers, spotted Philip from afar and tried to approach him. However, her attempt was thwarted by the crowd that quickly gathered around him and Galatea.
Audrey's attire that evening was nothing short of captivating. She wore a knee-length black dress with delicate lace accents that clung to her curves in all the right places. The dress had a sweetheart neckline that highlighted her graceful neck and collarbone, while the short length showcased her long, shapely legs. Her dark hair was styled in loose waves that framed her face, enhancing her large, expressive eyes. Audrey's makeup was subtle yet alluring, with a hint of smokey eyeshadow and a touch of gloss on her lips, making them look even more inviting. She had dressed to impress, following Victoria's advice to showcase her new self to Philip before he fell deeper in love with Galatea.
Audrey's eldest brother, Diego, stood nearby, a striking figure in a blue tuxedo with patterns and a black shawl lapel. At 180 cm, his muscular build and slightly bearded, dark-haired look gave him a rugged, southern Mediterranean charm. He exuded an air of confidence and strength that drew many admiring glances.
Her second brother, Gabriel, whom she accompanied as his plus one that evening, was surrounded by a group of young ladies. Standing at 185 cm with a lean and fit frame, delicate features, and blue eyes set against his red hair, he stood out in the crowd. Gabriel had hoped Audrey would help him fend off unwanted attention, but her stunning appearance only attracted more admirers, leaving him to navigate the crowd of adoring young women on his own.
Determined to speak with Philip, Audrey found herself continuously intercepted by admirers and well-wishers. Each time she finished a conversation and started walking towards Philip and Galatea, another young man would approach, complimenting her appearance and striking up a conversation. She would smile politely, engage in brief exchanges, then excuse herself and try once more to reach Philip.
Finally, after some time, Audrey managed to get close to Philip. Her heart fluttered with a mix of excitement and nervousness as she saw him with Galatea. Galatea's presence beside Philip was magnetic, her elegance and beauty seemingly drawing all attention. Audrey couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy, but she steeled herself, determined to make her own impression on Philip. She nervously squeezed her necklace before preparing herself to approach Philip and Galatea.
As she finally managed to catch Philip's attention, her voice carried a hint of shyness and excitement. "Hey, Philip," she greeted, her eyes sparkling with a new confidence.
"Hey, Audrey. You look... amazing," Philip said, genuinely impressed by her transformation.
"Thank you," Audrey replied, her smile widening as she sensed Philip's admiration. She noticed the woman beside him and turned her attention to her.
"Audrey, I'd like you to meet Galatea," Philip said warmly. "Galatea, this is Audrey, my best friend since forever."
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Audrey," Galatea said sincerely, her elegance and beauty drawing attention. "Philip has told me so much about you. You look stunning tonight."
"Thank you, Galatea. It's nice to finally meet you. I've heard quite a bit about you as well," Audrey replied, forcing a polite smile despite the pang of jealousy she felt.
Philip, oblivious to the undercurrents, smiled. "I'm glad you two finally got to meet. Galatea and I were just discussing how amazing this engagement party is."
"Yes, it is so lavish for an engagement party. It's almost like a wedding banquet," Audrey said, her eyes flicking to Philip.
"It is," Philip agreed, nodding. "I'm so glad I came."
Audrey took a deep breath, trying to steer the conversation back. "Philip, I was wondering if you might have a moment to catch up later? It's been a while since we've had a chance to talk."
Philip hesitated, glancing at Galatea. "Of course, Audrey. Maybe we can find some time later this evening."
Galatea smiled, her tone kind but firm. "I'm sure Philip would love to catch up. I'll give you two some space to talk," she said. "Philip, I'll be over by the bar if you need me."
After finishing her conversation with Philip, Audrey felt slightly exposed and self-conscious as she walked towards her brothers. She draped a large, elegant stole over her shoulders, seeking comfort in its warmth. She glanced over at Diego, who was engaged in a lively conversation with a group of business associates, while Gabriel was still surrounded by admirers. Taking a moment to sip some water, ever the health-conscious lady, she was soon approached by more young men, their eyes filled with admiration. She politely spoke with each of them but couldn't help glancing at Philip from time to time.
Lilianna, ever the picture of sweetness and charm, approached Philip and Galatea with a smile. She wrapped her arm around Philip's, her touch light and delicate. "Galatea, you look absolutely stunning tonight. You must tell me who designed your dress," she said, her tone ingratiating.
Galatea smiled politely. "Thank you, Lilianna. It's a custom design."
The atmosphere was thick with hidden rivalries and unspoken feelings as Lilianna flattered Galatea while Audrey stood nearby, clearly trying to stake her claim on Philip.
Part 2
Suddenly, the room's attention shifted as a group of individuals in Osgorian military uniforms entered. These diplomats and nobles from Osgoria added a sense of formality and significance to the event. Among them was the mayor of Tochago, adding to the significance of the occasion.
Philip was taken aback by the presence of such prestigious guests, but Victoria seemed unfazed. Her composed demeanor reflected her deep connections and understanding of the political landscape.
Dr. Max Sokraberg moved gracefully through the crowd towards the newly arrived group, his presence commanding attention. He greeted the mayor and the Osgorian guests warmly, his charm and charisma shining through. "Welcome, welcome! It's an honor to have you all here," Max said, his voice resonating with genuine warmth.
The mayor and the Osgorian guests returned his greeting with equal enthusiasm. The head of the Osgorian official delegation, Ambassador Enrich Falconhyde, stepped forward. Enrich was a striking figure. With blond hair that gleamed in the soft light, piercing green eyes, and a height of 185 cm, he embodied regal elegance. His meticulously tailored white tuxedo accentuated his broad shoulders and slim waist, making him the epitome of aristocratic grace. His handsome face, framed by perfectly styled hair, commanded attention and respect.
"Prince Sokraberg, it's a pleasure to be here. Your hospitality is as renowned as your scientific contributions," Enrich said, his voice smooth and confident.
Gasps and whispers filled the room as people realized the true identity of their host. "Prince Sokraberg? I had no idea he was nobility," someone murmured.
"I heard he was a prince, but he's so well known for his scientific achievements that I almost forgot," another guest commented.
"No wonder he could marry someone as beautiful and young as Snow at his age," a voice added, tinged with a mix of admiration and envy.
Philip's heart sank as he watched the scene unfold. The realization that Dr. Sokraberg was a prince and that Galatea was essentially a future princess hit him like a ton of bricks. A wave of insecurity washed over him.
Dr. Max Sokraberg beamed, pleased by the praise about his scientific achievements. "Thank you, Ambassador Falconhyde. Please, make yourselves comfortable and enjoy the evening."
As the Osgorian delegation mingled with the guests, Enrich continued to draw the admiration of many. His conversation was witty, his manners impeccable, and his presence undeniably captivating.
Galatea, standing beside Philip, noticed Enrich as well. "He certainly knows how to make an entrance," she murmured, her tone light and amused.
Philip nodded, unable to ignore the magnetic pull Enrich seemed to have on everyone. "Yes, he does," he replied, feeling a pang of insecurity as he watched the room gravitate toward the Osgorian officer.
Enrich made his way over to Max and Snow, greeting them with a charming smile. "Prince Sokraberg, Miss Yin, congratulations on your engagement. It's an honor to be here to celebrate with you."
"Thank you, Enrich," Max replied, shaking his hand firmly. "We're delighted you could join us."
Snow smiled softly, her demeanor serene and innocent. "Yes, thank you for coming," she added, her voice barely above a whisper.
Enrich cleared his throat and raised his voice slightly, capturing the attention of everyone in the room. "Ladies and gentlemen, I have the distinct honor of delivering a congratulatory message from the Osgorian Imperator."
The room fell silent, and all eyes were on Enrich. He continued, "The Imperator wishes to extend his heartfelt congratulations to Prince Sokraberg and Miss Yin on their engagement. He sends his best wishes for a future filled with happiness and success."
A collective gasp echoed through the ballroom. The mention of the Osgorian Imperator's personal message was one of the highest honors imaginable. Guests whispered among themselves, their awe and admiration for Max growing with each passing moment.
"I can't believe it," someone murmured. "A congratulatory message from the Osgorian Imperator is incredibly rare."
"This is a testament to how influential and respected Prince Sokraberg truly is," another guest added.
As he observed the situation, Philip's thoughts swirled in a tempest of emotions. The revelation of Max's noble lineage and the honor conferred upon him by the Imperator only deepened Philip's sense of inadequacy. The chasm between him and Galatea seemed to widen with each passing second, as vast as the Red Sea. The swift reversal of fortunes in a single evening was beyond his wildest imaginings. Until now, he had always believed himself the pursued, the coveted one in Galatea's eyes. Yet tonight, he faced the startling realization that she might be beyond his reach—a notion entirely foreign to his experience. Philip had always been the quarry, never the hunter, and certainly never in pursuit of someone as exalted as a princess. His once unshakeable confidence now teetered precariously on the brink.
The unsettling revelation that the woman he thought he could possess with a mere nod might actually be unattainable was both strange and terrifying. This newfound insecurity gnawed at him as he recognized, perhaps for the first time, that he might have subconsciously fallen in love with Galatea. The prospect of a future without her loomed darkly before him, a fear that mirrored his dread of becoming like his stepfather. To love is to open oneself to hurt—something his mother, Victoria, had both told and shown him by callously discarding the two father figures in his life. Philip now found himself grappling with feelings he had never before confronted, battling the fear of emotional vulnerability. Yet, amidst this internal chaos, his face remained a mask of composure.
Max, ever the gracious host, smiled warmly. "Please convey my deepest gratitude to the Imperator for his kind words and well-wishes. It is an honor beyond words."
Part 3
As the evening progressed, Enrich continued to draw the admiration of many guests. His conversation was witty, his manners impeccable, and his presence undeniably captivating. Victoria observed him with keen interest, her mind already calculating the potential benefits of aligning with such a prominent figure.
Philip, feeling a mix of curiosity and jealousy, watched as Enrich effortlessly charmed everyone around him. He glanced at Galatea, who seemed unfazed by Enrich's allure.
Meanwhile, Audrey, who had finally managed to extricate herself from the throng of admirers, watched the interaction between Philip and Galatea from a distance. She couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy and longing. Her eyes lingered on Philip, hoping for a moment when she could speak with him alone again.
Gabriel, having finally woven his way out of the crowd of ladies vying for his attention, noticed his sister's gaze. "Audrey, are you alright?" he asked, his voice filled with brotherly concern.
She smiled faintly, trying to mask her feelings. "I'm fine, Gabriel. Just taking it all in."
Diego, standing nearby, joined the conversation. "You know, sis, you should just go talk to Philip. What's the worst that could happen?"
Audrey sighed, her eyes still on Philip. "It's not that simple, Diego. There's a lot at stake."
As the music played softly in the background, creating a harmonious ambiance, the attention of the entire crowd remained divided between the enchanting Galatea, the captivating Enrich, and the serene Snow. Each person seemed to bring their own unique charm to the event.
The evening continued with laughter, conversation, and the clinking of glasses. The guests enjoyed the sumptuous feast laid out before them, each course a masterpiece of culinary art. From the delicate amuse-bouche of caviar on blinis to the rich lobster bisque, every bite was a delight. The main course, offering a choice between filet mignon and roasted duck breast, was accompanied by a selection of fine wines that perfectly complemented the flavors.
As the evening wore on, Philip couldn't help but feel the weight of the complex social dynamics at play. His thoughts were a whirlwind of emotions, from his growing feelings for Galatea to his old affections for Audrey and the enigma that was Snow. He also kept a watchful eye on Enrich, whose presence seemed to heighten the evening's sense of sophistication and intrigue.
In the midst of the festivities, Max finally managed to extricate himself from the crowd surrounding him and Snow. He approached Philip and Galatea with a broad smile. "Philip, Galatea, I'm so glad you could make it," he said warmly.
"We wouldn't have missed it for the world," Philip replied, shaking Max's hand. "Congratulations on your engagement, Dr. Sokraberg."
"Thank you, Philip. It means a lot to have you here," Max said, his eyes reflecting a fatherly affection. "How has Galatea been treating you?"
"Great," Philip answered honestly. "She's been very supportive and kind."
Max's eyes twinkled with satisfaction. "I'm glad to hear that." He turned to the young woman at his side. "Philip, meet Snow, my fiancée."
Snow, standing beside Max, smiled shyly. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Philip. Galatea has told me a lot about you."
"Nice to meet you too, Snow," Philip replied, intrigued by her calm and composed demeanor.
Snow, with her serene and timid demeanor, appeared much younger than expected, which had drawn murmurs and whispers from the guests earlier, including Victoria. Back then, Victoria couldn't hide her disdain, silently judging Max for marrying someone so young.Top of Form

"Money can always bridge the age gap," someone had joked earlier, adding to the mix of admiration and envy that filled the room.
As the night continued, the ballroom buzzed with activity. Guests danced to the melodic tunes of the string quartet, their movements graceful and elegant. The atmosphere was filled with a sense of celebration and camaraderie, yet beneath the surface, the undercurrents of hidden agendas and unspoken desires swirled.
Audrey, still trying to find the perfect moment to talk to Philip, felt her heart race with each passing minute. She watched as he interacted with Galatea, feeling a mixture of hope and trepidation. Her eyes flicked to Enrich, who was now engaged in conversation with Victoria and a group of dignitaries. His charm was undeniable, but Audrey's focus remained on Philip.
Finally, Audrey saw her chance as Galatea became surrounded by a crowd eager to pay their respects to her newly revealed noble status. With a determined stride and her heart pounding, Audrey approached Philip. "Philip, can we talk for a moment?" she asked, her voice steady despite her nerves.
Philip turned to her, surprised but pleased. "Of course, Audrey. Let's step outside for a bit."
They moved to a quieter corner of the ballroom, away from the prying eyes and ears of the other guests. Audrey took a deep breath, gathering her courage. "Philip, I just wanted to say you look wonderful tonight. And... I miss our conversations."
Philip smiled warmly, his gaze softening. "I miss them too, Audrey. It's been too long."
As they spoke, the tension between them seemed to melt away, replaced by a sense of familiarity and comfort. For a brief moment, the complexities of the evening faded into the background, leaving just the two of them, chatting away like old times.
Part 4
Audrey and Philip's conversation naturally reverted to their usual brotherly banter; a style that seemed inevitable despite how stunning Audrey looked that evening. Their shared history and deep bond surfaced effortlessly, filling the gaps between their words with warmth and familiarity. Audrey, lost in their happy conversation, forgot about the goal Victoria had set for her—to leave a romantic impression on Philip and create some accidental intimate encounters.
From afar, Victoria watched, growing increasingly frustrated at Audrey's lack of seductive moves. She could see Audrey's natural charm captivating Philip, but it wasn't enough. Victoria's eyes narrowed as she saw Galatea finally find a gap in the flurry of dance invitations from various Osgorian nobles. Galatea began walking toward Philip and Audrey, her elegant gown swaying gracefully. Just then, Enrich approached her, his demeanor smooth and confident, and asked her to dance.
Galatea politely accepted. "It would be an honor," she replied, her voice carrying the grace and poise of royalty.
