Chapter 4 - SAVIOUR?

Chapter 4: Saviour ?

----

The sound of footsteps clomped through the forest. A tall man, barefoot, strode forward with a book in one hand and a black sword in the other. "Since I can hear someone crying, I guess I am not that far," he murmured.

---

The bald man cradled the dead wolf, tears streaming down his face. "My baby... my baby..."

Natalie collapsed to the ground, her skin pale yellow from exhaustion. "Natalie... Natalie..." Lily yelled, cradling her friend in her arms.

'No, no, no....

what do I do? She has lost so much blood...'

"Help, someone, anyone help!"

she screamed, her voice echoing through the forest, desperation etched into her tear-streaked face.

"Stop yelling... there is no one to help," the old man snarled, his voice dripping with malice.

"Please, please help her....

I'll do anything you say... just save her, please," Lily begged, her eyes wide with desperation.

"You bastard, how dare you murder my baby? How dare you!"

the bald man roared, his face contorted in rage. He grabbed his sword and charged at the old man.

The old man stood calm, his eyes cold and calculating. The bald man swung his sword, aiming for the old man's neck, but it was countered with a swift flick of a small dagger.

"I told you,

don't make me kill you...

He... he... he..."

The old man's devious laugh echoed through the forest. He pushed the bald man back with overwhelming strength.

'How can an old bastard have such strength?'

With surprise the bald man thought, eyeing the old man's yellow, dirty teeth.

Natalie struggled to breathe, her body wracked with pain. Lily scanned the area frantically, her eyes locking onto a pair of blue eyes hidden behind a tree near the cave.

'Who is that? Is he an elf or a human? If he's human, is he here to target us?'

Her mind raced with questions. '

But The old bastard clearly said there's no one else here... does he not know about this person?'

The man behind the tree made hand signs, fingers placed on his lips, signaling for silence.

'Is he telling me to stay quiet? What if he's like them, waiting for a chance to kill these two and take us for himself?'

"Aaaaaah," Natalie moaned in pain.

'I have to act natural. We're already doomed. If this ends quickly, maybe I can help Natalie.'

Lily nodded once, agreeing to go along with the hidden man's plan.

---

'Okay... I don't really care about them, but I need them alive to get my answers. Those two bastards won't tell me anything, but those girls might.'

The tall young man peeked from behind the tree, watching the old man and the bald man fight.

Their weapons clashed, each trying to gain the upper hand. Deadly attacks were made and evaded by mere hairs' breadths.

The bald man's longer reach gave him an advantage, and the old man was bleeding from multiple wounds.

"So, what happened to all your big talk, old man? Is this how you planned to kill me?" the bald man taunted, seeing the old man bleed.

The young man moved closer while they were busy cursing each other. Now, he stood right behind the cave, concealing his breath.

"Okay... this is fine.

Now all I have to do is wait for an opening," he whispered to himself.

"He... he... he...

I wanted to kill you, but I couldn't.

You wanted these girls, and you won't have them,"

the old man's devious voice echoed with his laugh. He kept his eye on the bald man, pointing his dagger with one hand and raising his other hand's palm towards Natalie and Lily, who were beside him. His yellow teeth revealed a devilish grin as his palm began to glow with a purplish mana circle.

"Slave binding spell."

" If I can't have them, then I'll hand them over to the Empire.

He... he... he..."

The glow in his hand grew brighter.

'What does he mean by handing us to the Empire? Don't tell me...'

Lily's eyes widened in horror as she realized what he meant, her heart sinking.

The bald man pulled out a scroll from his robe. "Did you think I don't have that spell?"

He opened the scroll, pointing it towards Natalie and Lily. The scroll bore the same inscriptions as the old man's spell. Soon, it began glowing with the same purplish light, distracting the old man for a second.

"Hhaaaaaaah!"

the bald man roared and slashed the old man's hand, severing it from his arm.

The hand fell to the ground, but the spell remained active.

"Aaaaaaaaah..." the old man screamed in pain, blood spurting everywhere.

Lily turned her face to look at the old man.

Right above his head on the roof of the cave, the young man with the sword was perched, ready to strike.

He is the real hunter, patiently waiting for the prey to fall in his trap, his eyes at that very moment were calm and focused.

He is the very Embodiment of a cold hunter.
