JODIE WOKE up from a nightmare with a pounding heart and a dry mouth. Sitting up, she felt disoriented as she looked around Ingrid's empty room. Sunlight flooded the space from an open window and the clock beside the bed read eight thirty in the morning.
The morning breeze came in through the window and wafted a sumptuous aroma into her eager nostrils. Her stomach growled, a painful reminder of the last time she ate. She got out of bed, strolled into the bathroom and drank generously from the tap. Once she'd drank to her fill, she wiped her face clean of makeup and squeezed some toothpaste onto her index finger. She stuck it in her mouth and scrubbed to the best of her abilities while mentally preparing for her meeting with Ares.
